Zealadin wrote:Haha yea I go to chatswood, and its always teaming with kids especially during the holidays, I went to the city shop on Sunday with a friend and it was so quiet, and serene and well.... just lovely ;D
Lol, I used to go to the Chatswood store back in the day when I used to know everyone working there. And believe it or not we even had girls coming to hang out with us. Not that they played or anything... other interests were at hand.
But those times have passed and now the only one I go to is the city one. Girl count: zero!

Re: Girls?
I have to say I find the guys in the city good as a more mature player, but also a lot not less friendly, but........ hospitable?
Like if I walked into the chatswood shop I'd feel welcome by the guy basically running away from all the kids to try and help me, while in the city its more if you need help yell, but i won't bother you, plus the guy I always see there looks kinda scary, all peircings and stuff
I like both for different reasons, but then I've never been someone to go in and paint all days I'm too fussy with my paints water brushes lighting etc.
I guess knowing all the chatswood guys makes it different too, when you know who plays what, and they know you and your latest project its alot different than when the people in the shop just see you for games, and the occasional purchase

I used to go to the Chatswood store occasionally when I lived in Sydney. The Hornsby store was far closer though, so I spent much more of my time there.
I've only been to the City Battle bunker (the one near the QVB right?) once, wayyy back when they first opened and had the 'Buy 2 get 1 free' deal.

I went to that (I think) was pretty insane I got a few hundred dollars of stuff and turned up and found everyone else was spending a few thousand lol....
A few of my friends bought whole armies they still haven't fully painted then.

That's hilarious
That seems to be the trend with this hobby, buy, buy, buy, then kinda sorta paint while you buy some more
It really makes you stop and marvel at the genius that is GW marketing doesn't it? Kinda scary

That being said getting stuff done is such a nice feeling of accomplishment especially when they come out nicely I cant say its not worth it.

Haha, the pierced dude would be Dake. He's actually a pretty cool guy, although a worshiper of Chaos. Filthy!!!
Yeah, see I know the guys from the city store, so they know on what I'm working, etc... and always help out if I need it.

If they didnt have that sort of marketing, we wouldnt be getting the quality minis we get today. Trust me, in 15 years of me collecting, I've noticed that they have taken a massive step forward.

Re: Girls?
Hey if they had more sales where I got 33% off I'd be happy to spend the money
I had a squad of wraithguard (full squad) worth 250 for 10 models. And they are pretty basic models.
That being said the overall quality of the miniatures has reason alot, but I wish the cost of paints, paintbrushes and inks hadn't risen so sharply, they where 3$ when I first started and are now 6.......
It makes it much less likely for me to go in and buy 10, when the price is double.

Brother,
You should go to hobby stores to buy supplies such as these, the prices are considerably lower than at GW stores

Most of the shops nearby that sell GWS stuff only give a tiny discount sadly : ( like maybe 2-3 dollars a box, and generally blisters are about the same
I found a great ebay dealer in the UK who has considerable discounts though, about 30-35% if your getting boxes including the shipping and the exchange rate/exchange fees

Yeah, also professional paint brushes found in hobby stores will be about the same price, but considerably better for detail painting than GW brushes. If I recall correctly, the ones I use are from the Springer range, (can't check, I'm at work... Lol) and they are awesome.

Hmmm, have you tried Tin Soldier in the city? They tend to be cheaper by a fair margin. Then again it depends on what you get.
I remember seeing a SM battle company box for 30% less than GW price. That's a fair amount when you think about it.

Haha on the forums at work get me a job there!!!
But yea I generally just get the citadel standard brushes and find them good for all details even tiny stuff as long as I take care of them. (Also gotta be careful some of the ones in the shop tend to be very very bad quality)
Being more an eldar and presently DH player all my models are metal and are very very very rarely discounted to any degree I'd rather keep the shop guys happy and buy there and they help me out occasionally with conversions etc

I think its beccause there aren't enough pink paints.
If I was a girl I would find the lack of pink paints game breaking.

Re: Girls?
If a girl would see your post Zealadin, about the paints, i think you would unleash the "GIRL RAGE!!!"
And you would be called a sexist.
Honestly i don't think its becouse of the lack of pink paints that makes girls not wanna play warhammer (wut? u don't think this klomster?)
It could be the same thing as for video games, where i believe most girls think of it as a boy thing, and just doesn't bother, "it's for boys after all"
And that most people don't know what warhammer is, at least not all the girls.
I remember a thing that supposedly (and probably) happened around here.
A guy had been at school (a big school) and been reading white dwarf, and when he saw this model he said.
-"WOW, that model is real good looking!" High, a girl had heard him say this and had walked up to him and had a real monolouge about him beeing a sexist and all that.
The guy had then showed him the white dwarf and pointed at the model he thought was good looking.
The greater deamon of nurgle.......
The girl had apparently not quite understood and left, i didn't really get any more info on what happened after he showed her the image.
Just a fun story!

But to be honest I think Zealadin was just joking, hence the " "
Even though this is a joke I think we all need to listen to the wise council of Brother Klomster, and Beware of where we use any humour that may incur the "GIRL RAGE!!!!" . Even a battle hardened GK such as myself knows that the "rage" is something to be avoided at all cost!!!! LOL
