Grand Strategy and allies

Not sure if its been discussed in another thread but I couldn't find it...

Will a GM's Grand Strategy work on an allied unit? I read the rules/wording on Grand Strategy as well as the rules/wording on Allies of Convenience. I didn't see anything that would prevent the Grand Strategy from applying to allied units.

From Allies of convenience:
-can't benefit from the Warlord Trait of an allied character
-cannot be joined by allied Independent Characters
-Are not counted as friendly units for the targeting of psychic powers

Grand Strategey:
all the different options all say "nominated units or chosen units"

Thoughts?

I doubt it will be allowed when FAQ'd it seems against the spirit of the allies of convenience rules. Are we even allowed to use it on henchmen and they are from the same codex?

No we can't use it on henchmen, because the codex says so. However it doesn't say you can't use it on allies. While I agree this is one thing I'd have expected to be FAQ'ed given how almost every other codex has had their abilities restricted to their own units, the fact is it wasn't changed in the FAQ, which means until they say otherwise it's legit. My suggestion is make the most out of it til GW get around to fixing it which I expect they eventually will.

It's against the spirit of the rule but there's nothing to stop you. Apart from your conscience.

Ah a conscience, I remember when I had one of those..... they were terrible times

well, I can see it working in the fluff (within imperium armies anyways)

like a Grand Master forcing a squad of devastators to hold a certain area?

Actually since we don't have any brothers in arms I think this is fair game for using untill GW fix it. Maybe they wont fix it at all, like I said no brothers in arms( black Templars or SoB at least) so maybe they see it's as a reasonable pay off. That's how I see it and my conscience remains clear

I don't think we will ever have Brother in Arms cause of our treatment of them after the battle (see The Emperor's Gift).

A harmless bit of mind wiping and the occasional planetary extermination order and suddenly your the fat kid when it's time to pick teams for sports

i don't see it fitting well with the way i see GKs ... Grand stragegy is ... well ... Grand ... so i don't think those well ground technics work for menials as convenience allies
consequently i won't use Grand Strategy for allies ... in fact i'm not sure that i'll use allies at all !!

I don't think GS would apply to allies, as i've heard Mystics, icons etc only apply to models from that codex, although I could be wrong

The things is a lot of those things were covered in FAQs which specifically said they only affect models from their own codex, Grand Strategy was not covered in ours AFAIK.
