Starting a Grey Knight Army
Hello brothers
I just happened to stumble upon these forums, and figured I would ask you all for advice on starting my new army. I love the grey knight fluff and the models are excellent. They seem like the perfect army for me to play, and from what I gathered sixth ed has given them a bit of a nerf, so I assume that the grey knight stigma may go.
So here goes. I really like grey knight terminators, so honestly I would like a lot of them, I would also like a fairly competitive list, the game isn't all about winning... But it sucks to loose every game .
So I was thinking
HQ
Grey Knights Grand Master - 240
Master crafted force Halberd
Psycannon
Rad Grenades
Brotherhood Champion - 110
Empyreen brain mines
Troop
Grey Knight Terminator Squad 225
Forde Halbards 4
Deamon Hammer 1
Psycannon 1
Grey Knight Terminator Squad 225
Forde Halbards 4
Deamon Hammer 1
Psycannon 1
Heavy Support
Nemesis Dreadknight 170
Heavy Psycannon
Al together 970 points
Please feel free to give me any advice, I'm completely new with grey knights.

Re: Starting a Grey Knight Army
If you take the brotherhood champion out you can fit in a strikesquad with a psycannon.
That will mean you can make the terminators 1 troop choice and gain a lot on psybolts, a standard or the grand strategy. If you need flexibility you can always combat squad them.
It also means you have a unit to babysit a home objective.

Re: Starting a Grey Knight Army
I agree, more troops are better, and the champion is only ok without a large cc squad to lead, and brain mines are unreliable, and troops are usually better as 10 combat squaded, especially with grand strategy. For the termies you probably want two hammers, a sword, and two halberds. Solid list though. you'll have trouble shooting armor 13+, just try and assault it if possible. You're also slow, so fliers and fast units may be a problem. If so, get the dk teleporter or dreadnought with psyrifle arms
I haven't heard many people call us Nerfed, any idea why? I mean yes power weapons got Nerfed, but only against terminators, and guess who can field the most terminators!

Thanks for the advice , Ill look at writing up a new list, the champion was more for challengeing, the grand master can still hit it up but against a low initiative , high invuln chrecter (I.e gazguhll) i dont want him to die.
I wouldn't say nerfed to an extent that it made them a lower tier army, just that before in both areas I play grey knight players never really got as much credit for winning as they played grey knights. I think it might be more that other armies have gotten more of a buff.

Why low initiative? With the halberd yours is 7 so unless it's an autarch or some slanneshi thing you should be fine. You wouldn't want to fight Gaz though- eternal warrior and a powerclaw doesn't bode well for your chances. Of course, if you find him at 1000 points just avoid him and shoot everything else.

Re: Starting a Grey Knight Army
The low initiative was for the brain mines, If it was an eldar hq there wouldn't be much point as statistically they would pass.
In the case of eldar or slaness I'm quite confident my grand master would win.

Re: Starting a Grey Knight Army
In cases where you don't think the gm would win just use your squad leader. One of the reasons to put a sword in is to get 4+ invulnerable in challenge while your hammers and halberds eat a squad.

The warding stave is good to keep people alive in combat except perhaps too expensive for the grandmaster for my liking. I think the sword will help your grandmaster live long using the 3++.
I think the Champion has taken a nerf since a double 6 or 1 will kill him on a perlis after casting a pyschic power.

Use your pyschic powers wisely too, as one perlis is enough to kill the guy.Tiger10 wrote:stormknight wrote:Yeah the champion has a 3++ with the sword.
