1500pts - Grey Knights vs Orks

So a friend paid me a visit with his Ork horde today so I can get some practice games in for the Throne of Skulls and start making a decision between playing Grey Knights or Daemons. Today I chose GK. We played Dawn of War, Annihalation and I had second turn. I had a paltry 6 kill points worth of units on the table and he had 14 KPs worth I think in total. So plenty of target choice provided I could survive until the end.

First turn and he moves up a foot slogging squad, defkoptas and Nob Bikerz. The Bikers are the primary target of my shooting that turn.


By turn 2 only one Nob Biker is left and the Shokk Attack gun had teleported itself in to assualt with my cursader. This frees me up to avenge the loss of one GK squad by lighting up the Shokk Attack Mek and multi assualt the last Nob and Defkoptas.


The rest of his horde make their way across the board having deployed in the far corner. The front one doesn't last long thanks to a well placed lascannon shot for the Land Raider.


The crusader fails to make an easy kill point by not managing to kill the Runt Herd at the same time as the Grots. I also forgot to deploy Brother Captain Stern and retinue at this point, which would come back to haunt me a little later.


My Dread proceeded to tarpit no less than two squads of Orks due to the failure of two power klaws to score any pens for three turns.



Having only just emptied their contents to deal with the Runt Herd the option of the Crusader were somewhat limited. I took a shot at the Deff Dread but failed to do anything.



Eventually the Dread gets wrecked and scores his second KP, but slowed their progress right up to turn 5.


Having just watched the Crusader get blown up by the Deff Dread Stern finally gets in the thick of it. Having previously insta-killed the Runt Herd with with a force weapon attack, in this turn they assault a Boyz Mob and wipe them out, although at the cost of 1 terminator felled by a powerklaw attack. It would have been two but Stern's re-roll saved my backside. One of the Ork Truks attempts to wreck the final Land Raider with it's wrecking ball, but merely manages to scratch it's paint.


Stern goes on to finish off the Deff Dread with his bare fists (& hammerhand) and consolidates his squad up a level for a better shooting position.


In the final seconds of the battle the Grey Knights manage to shake both ork truks and prevent further potential attacks.



So the final score 10:3 for the Grey Knights. A satisfying performance against one the forces I find most intimidating. I enjoyed the game and look forward to the rematch.

I love playing against orks, trying to position your army so that our superior fire and armour take care of their numbers...
