Grand Master Designs
Ok, so my latest foray into the codex has drawn me to Grand Masters - I was looking online and saw an awesome conversion of Stern with a psycannon and, the build seems, at first glance to be quite stunning. I'm just wondering what people think is the best or most effective build for a grand master?
I'm keen to get one built and painted and then get him on the table...

Re: Grand Master Designs
that's the built i use for my GM Aubec le noir : sword + psycannon + rad/psycho grenades.
I know it's expensive, but i love psycannon and i think it's a weapon that is worth its points !!
Besides Aubec le noir is my representation in the battlefield, so he has to be exceptional and if he's expensive... then so be it !
here is the guy

I take mine really simple. Sword + Servo Skulls.
I think that the GM's Grand Strategy is the best thing this model brigs to the table. But that is not to say other alternatives are not good. Grenades are nice, much more now when the GM can be your Warlord.

Re: Grand Master Designs
I think that you will find the answers to your question will be infinite Brother.
As Brother Aubec le Noir mentioned GMs are our personal avatars on the table top, and as such will reflect each of our personalities and preferences.
Good questions to ask/start with are:
- What will your GM be used for? Primarily grand strategy, shooting, or getting in the thick of things in close combat?
- Similarly, what is your style of play?
- Who are your primary oponants?
- Do you want your GM to be"Fluffy", Competative, or a little of both
I hope me answering your question with more questions helps

Re: Grand Master Designs
I'm like Aubec, not only do I love GMs, but my GM is also my avatar so he's also quite expensive...psycannon, rad, blind and psychotroke grenades.
He's always been worth it though. There have been countless times where 4 S7 rending shots at BS6 either destroyed heavy armor or shot an HQ down
I used the Draigo model and just swapped out the arms and did some minor conversions for mine (like making the sword blade longer and giving him a two handed grip).

Re: Grand Master Designs
I'll have to take a picture of mine and post it up here when I get home tonight
I apologise in advance for my terrible painting skills! In my defense I am a newbie and my skills with a paint brush don't match up to the ideas I have nor some of the armies I've seen on this forum!

Please remember the original post is asking for advice not just pics
Of course, make sure you post pictures as well.

No need to apologize Omenos, we LOVE pictures! Mine is still WIP but I'll get it done soon (w/in the next 2 months )
@Purityinflames: Like Constantine mentioned, it really depends on what your purpose is and what point level. Aubec and I like to put fluff into our GM which overrides the cost-efficient goal in competitive games. But answering Constantine's questions will pretty much give you an idea on how you want your GM geared up.

@Constantine: No worries, besides, I believe I've been slightly influencing PurityinFlames' decisions on his GM build in his "Looking for a HQ choice..." thread

Re: Grand Master Designs
I remember when my grandmaster slaughtered 7 units of the enemy army, with one wound left..... and that was codex deamonhunters.
He had a master-crafted sword, psycannon bolts and a 4+ inv save.
And holocaust
Sadly it's so different now, i haven't even bothered with the new book.
Not played a 40k game in the new edition either.
Don't worry, i'm not gonna go all -"It was better in the old days." I'll spare you that one

Re: Grand Master Designs
Generally I keep him cheap and basic, psyker 1, possibly rad grenades and/or MC the sword if needed and points permitting (cheaper I make him, the more points I can spend elsewhere is the theory). He's very much the pyro and has earned a fair amount of respect on the battlefield. His favoured transport is his LR redeemer with an incinerator equiped honour guard of purifiers, not a lot has managed to take all that fire and live... Did I mention he likes burning things? :p

Nothing quite as satisfying as dropping one of the redeemer's templates on a squad then following it up with another 5...
