I must admit, those are some pretty awesome models.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
Maybe it was a time when there was indifference with midgits, dwarves or should say little people. Way before bridgette the midgit, the designers sexual tensions were uncontrolled and they took it out on the poor squats.

So one question, what was so special about the Squats that they are so missed nowadays? Or was it just the pure awesomeness of the models?

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
I don't see anything that they added to the lore. Honestly their existence just seemed like an excuse to have a "Dwarves" race in the 40k universe (sorry Aubec).
Sure the same could be said about Eldar and Elves, but that's only if you ignore all the history and character in the Eldar lore. For Squats, they were... short?
The models are pretty sweet though.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
the same could be said to any xenos in 40K universe ... the only thing is that GW didn't exploit the potential of the squats as they did for the eldars.... why is a good question !
i really don't know, but to be true i don't know well the fluff of the squats ... i'll find out and go back to you, but what is sure is that the squats had the same place as eldars in 40K in the "epic" era ... they had particular weapons, way of making war and was sometimes an ally of the imperium...
i found 40k somewhat wobbly without dwarfs/squats and creating new xenos species don't fill the gap, imho
and yes, now (it wasn't always the case), i love the models.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
I believe the squats were humans who got separated from the main human colonies. After MANY MANY MANY generations, they eventually became squats. There was a lot of potential for them, but GW didn't flesh out their character in the same way they did the rest of the Xenos. I would have preferred that they had fleshed it more (just to have another race, if nothing else), but since they didn't I'm glad they aren't around. It really needs to be a well fleshed-out race with rich history, backstory, heroes, etc. or not a race at all.
Don't get me wrong though, it definitely would have been better if GW had just bothered to flesh them out more. I like the idea of them.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
Agreed brother, this is purely speculation, but imo, They were the guinnea pigs of the emperor. His first botched batch. In scetches and design they seemed well thought out of but the small details and short instructions...no pun intended(allright but just partially). Steam hissed as the towering gene pod slowly opened and within it something stirred. Welcomed but with apprehensive curosity. The emperor of man looked up expectantly as thunderous loud foot stomps echoed in the voluminous container. Steam once more fogged and slowly dissipated into the cold pristine laboratory. The emperors brow raised in pride and a faint smile began to form... something tugged at his cape as shock, disgust and horror transformed his countenance. It spoke , " Me Squat, Boss" as it waved a friendly gesture. The Emperor raised his hand to wipe his temple and replied, "By the throne! why do we still use the english system, not 3 ft... I meant 3 meters, back to the drawing board."

I honestly think that they should be integrated to be an option for IG. Maybe a FA or HS squad. I think that would be a great way of keeping the Squats in the universe without having to flesh out a whole new race. You could even say that the Squats fighting with the IG are stragglers who were out of the system when the 'Nids attacked. It would be so easy and fluffy to make them IG options.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
Squats would be a great addition to 40k IMO, they could replace one of the many useless space marine chapter codexes, since they are in PA, and something different (obviously not just given a SM codex, but replacing one). Variety is good!
I know alot of people who would love to play space dwarves. Afterall Dwarves generally have pretty cool lore and fluff.

My local game store said that when anyone brings up the topic of Games Workshop reintroducing Space Dwarves back into 40K they get shelved for another 15 years...

I'd consider taking them if they have the same stats as a SM but 1/3 the points and 20in a squad and can fit in a rhino, 40 fit in a LR.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW
I still think that they could make a come back.
The whole premise behind them was that they are humans that settled a world with stronger gravity and that over the generations they became shorter and shorter. Can't remember where I read that, but I did! I think it was Rouge Trader era
As for stats etc....
I think given that they used to be human, and their evolutionary history... their strength would be higher, Initiative lower......And they would have cool mining kinda war gear like NDK like suits, and mole transports.....Why not keep with the Dwarf miner theme eh!

I think that is a fantastic way to integrate them back into the 40k system Constantine. Maybe even have a cool "teleporting" unit that can dig across the battlefield.

Most of those models look pretty dang awesome. I think the Squats in power armor are pretty funny actually.
Also, Chaos Squats?! That's just hilarious.
