Exact paladin unit config?

Hey guys!

Theres quite a few threads on how to arm your termis or paladins (4pcannons, 3-4hammers etc) but what im wondering now is how this all breaks down on an individual model bases.

In my planned 10-man Paladin squad, i want to run:
5x halberd
3x hammer
4x cannon
1x banner
1x warding stave

I can imagine you want to run some guys in the front as you advance, moving other guys to the back as soon as the armies engage.
This also means that you probably dont want a model with a CC benefit sporting a cannon.

So how should i equip the individual models in this squad for best utility?

Everyone in the squad will have a cc benefit of some sort, even the swords.

I run two psycannon's on hammers and two on halberds and keep them in the middle of the pack so my cannons are the last to die and i can still assault with them effectively against any target.

Generally I see hammers on Psycannons.

Aight, thanks! Ok, i settled on this:

3x hammer with 3x cannon
1x hammer with 1x bolter
1x halberd with 1x cannon
1x banner with 1x bolter
1x stave with 1x bolter
3x halberd with 3x bolter

I wanted to put the fourth cannon on the banner so that he too can stay out of cc reach a bit (not be the closest model) while draigo and the stave guy tank wounds but that would make snipes on him a big loss.

This way you have models with specific utility that can move forward or back into the unit when the time comes.

What is the obsession with paladins? 2 wound terminators that cost SO much more but are not any more survivable than normal terminators.....

Theres no obsession. Its just the list i want to run (Draigowing). The models are cool and i want to play something elite. You could check the painting section for my blog.

Doesn't 2 Wound make them twice as survivable as regular Terminators? Also double the Psycannons and +1 WS.

vs insta-death, you could have a trillion wound, you'd still die

The way I run my draigowing is Draigo & Coteaz, 10-man Paladin squad - 4 psycannons, bro-banner, psybolt ammo, 2xdaemonhammers, 3xforceswords, 4xhalbreds. Coteaz takes divination/with prescience and another power. Draigo takes all instant death shots, everyone else takes other shots. In apoc games take apocthecary.

Using Draigo to just take one paladin squad of troops seems like far too many points. Better instead to take a normal Grand Master, tool him up so he can take out just about anything or leave him vanilla, and use his Grand Strategy to make the Paladin Squads troops.

IMHO if there is anything other than Grey Knight terminators/paladins and Draigo, it is not a Draigo wing.

Don't forget that our hobby is not always purely about strategy and mathhammer etc... Brothers. Fluff, love of particular models, and personal opinion have roles in the armies we choose.

I got a question...

Why not make the banner guy the guy with the Narthecium? Anything stopping me from doing it? Seems like the best choice, as you have just one guy to keep in the middle, instead of 2. Obviously, it sucks if you lose the guy, as you lose two bonus...

That's a good question Brother Enkiel. I don't recall off hand there being any restriction of doing so.

Other then points and personal preference there is no restriction.
