Victory for the Dreadknight Empty Victory for the Dreadknight

Post by bigbri Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:24 am

So my store had it's monsters deathmatch today, contestants were:
Me: Dreadknight with Psilencer, Incinerator, Sword and teleporter
Marc:Trygon Prime w/ toxin sacs, adrenal glands and regeneration.
Kristoff:Not sure what this one was called(curse my memory) was some sort of named forgeworld khorne daemon with a huge axe, was 170pts and apparently caused ID with all wounds(ouch)
Ross:Daemon Prince w Mark of Tzeentch, wings, bolt of change and warptime
Setup was 3D6 inches apart roll for Initiative and then straight out fight.
First up was Marc's Trygon, unfortunately we were only 13" apart, it charged first turn with fleet. We each managed a measly single wound and I failed to get off my force weapon(curse you shadows in the warp), next turn he mauled me to death with my failing a number of Invuls and again not force weaponing.
Next up was Kristoff and his Khorne Daemon(muhahahaha) we set up about 15" apart and I won initiative and promptly jumped backwards and opened up with my psilencer and caused 6 wounds, two of which he failed to save. He moved forward and was forced to run in an effort to trap me against the board edge, my turn and I promptly jumped backwards yet again(despite my opponents attempts at using psychology to bait me into the charge) another wound gone from a burst of psilencer fire. he promptly runs forward again thinking I'm going to be stuck now. instead I pull out my trump card Shunt! and promptly materialise 20" behind him. i open up with the psilencer again and score an impressive 8 hits, more impressive was I promptly caused 8 wounds, the daemon saved a paltry 3 and was promptly blasted straight back to his master in the Warp.
Round 3 was Ross's daemon prince, this one sligthly worried me as he had wings so was fast enough to catch me. We set up the around 16" apart and I won Initiative and promptly hopped backwards and opened up with the psilencer yet again, this time managed 6 hits, but only 4 wounds, 3 of which were saved. ross's turn he charges forward and begins a foul incantation of Tzeentch, fortunately he only just casts it with a 10, at which point for the first time ever I remember Aegies, my Dreadknights arcane protections kick it in to confound the spell and make him fail. Next turn realizing that even with a shunt move I can't maneuver away I opt for the headlong strike. Charging forward psilencer blazing and incinerator roaring(for only the 3 time all day) I blast away and manage to strip another wound off before I go for CC. At this point I have to say thank god for the greatsword's rerolls otherwise this would have been bad. The damon prince gets off warptime and strikes first dealing the valiant NDK two wounds which I save with double sixes. The dreadknight hits back and uses the rerolls to achieve 3 hits and 3 wounds which are failed and the damon prince is also vanquished back to it's own dimension.
At this point it's a tie, both Marc and I have 2 wins and a loss and so fight it out for the title of champion. This time I win initiative and hop away opening up with my psilencer and incinerator both of which do nothing, marc moves and fleets to inches away. Knowing he has furious charge I open up with both guns(failing spectacularly to do anything at all) and then waded in. I roll my hits and roll an improbable string of all 1's, reroll from the sword and all hit(whew) promptly roll for wounds, and get a 1 and two 3's, reroll and score 3 wounds, try to activate my force weapon but fail because of Shadows(but at least no perils) He rolls his attacks scoring 4 hits and 3 wounds two of which I fail to save. So I win the combat by 1 and he passes his fearless save. Final turn he fails to regen, I let him roll first since we hit simultaneously, and strikes, even with rerolls he only scores 4 hits and only two wounds one of which I save(leaving me down to 1) I strike back with 3 hits again(2 orginal plus the reroll passed) then wounds only 1 success, I pray fervently as I reroll my two misses and BAM double sixes, the Trygon is chopped into half as the battered but triumphant Dreadknight stands the victor with a record of 3-1.

In a completely unrelated note in the megabattle afterwards my libby and 3 pallies managed to kill Kharn and 10 zerkers in close combat with the libby smashing Kharn to death with his staff. The more I use my libby the more I love him, even if he is 250odd points

Nice rep! Congrats on the win! I can imagine your opponent's face when you did the shunt move behind him! Razz

Thanks Brothers, it was indeed great fun. Kristoff really wasn't happy about the shunt and spent the rest of the day referring to my guys as Gay Knights and calling me a coward, i spent the rest of the day pointing out I won Twisted Evil
@Constantine yeah our store has a great manager for doing stuff like this, he even expanded 40k to two nights a week so hopefully I can get in some normal games for once(since February I've been limited to the special games on Saturday) he also likes to add odd rules in to change things up. Today we were fighting on a low gravity planet so everyone got to add +1" to any movement, but any CC attack of strength 6 or more caused instant death as you hit them hard enough to send them floating off(unfortunately I forgot about that when fighting Kharn with HH and MoT on) next week all template weapons get +2 str, increased to AP3 if not already and become gets hot. needless to say I'm leaving my LR and psycannons at home and taking lots and lots of Incinerators(purgation squads anyone?) hopefully I fight the dude with loads of Chaos Marines again lol (wonder if the +2 will even affect the librarian, not being Ap- on Warp Rift could be fun)

Nice stuff, your friend shouldn't complain too much, your DK would have cost double his daemon afterall Razz

The random effects thing sounds interesting, but letting people know in advance so they can tailor isn't so cool Sad

I always laugh when people get upset that you are effectively using your model/army's strengths, and consider it cheap Razz
I guess he would prefer it if you played to his strengths in future Rolling Eyes

It wouldn't hurt to tell him to be more mindful of his homophobic remarks either Mad

I agree with Brother Z (Hey that rhimes! Razz)
The special rules days would be REALLY fun if they were more of a surprize!

@Aubec Yeah the psilencer outdid my greatest hopes there, I knew there were a couple of daemon players so was expecting to use it to knock 1 -2 wounds of them before CC, but blasting aprt that Khorne thing was just epic(out of curiosity anyone know what it's called/what FW book it comes from?) If I can spare some points in another proper game I may try it out again, there's a fair few chaos/daemon players and quite a few GEQ armies where it might shine as well.
As for the special rules I think it may have been a mistake to be told what the special rule is in advance, since I don't remember it happening before. That being said I don't think list tailoring will be a problem, most people keep the same lists and don't even bother tailoring for the weekly bonus(each unit from that weeks theme FOC slot gets you a card with a special effect you can use) I think 1 person may do it so I'll knock up my normal army list and a tailored one just in case and make sure I face him so the other guys don't get screwed by his powergaming

Your store sounds awesome. My local store only has 1 night a week for 40k and maybe a tourney on a Saturday once in awhile. Plus the extra rules sound like a good way to keep things interesting. Also glad to see the dreadknight do well.

What? You donĀ“t know the name of the great enemy, Brother bigbri?
You should go to the Sanctum Sanctorum and take another look into the Librarium Daemonica. The daemon you have fought had been Uraka Az'baramael.
At least you ave bannished him.
Gratulations. geek

@Dark Bjoern Thanks Brother, unfortunately my Librarium Daemonica is packed away til after christmas along with all my Imperial Armours and codexes other than GK. I'm assuming he's in one of the Vraks books, so will have to look up which one and then try and stealthily sneak it out while the GF is otherwise occupied lol
