Hello Brothers!

I'm completely new to Warhammer 40K and immediately became enamored by the prestiges Grey Knights.

As I've slowly come to learn the rules, the points system, and the options offered by the Grey Knights codex I have come up with my first 1500 point list.

I would greatly appreciate all advice and guidance from all my Brothers!

Welcome to the forums Brother Nineteen73!

You definitely have a good start of a list there. Some thoughts to consider...
- you'll probably need a transport for your purifiers. They are great at close-combat so you will want to get them there intact.
- I love psybolts myself, but 20 pts is pretty steep so the way I offset that is usually give it to a larger squad so the pts/model ratio goes down. In my list, I usually only take it for squads of 7-10.
- maybe consider having slightly larger squads. The 5-man terminator squads are fine since they're quite resilient. 5-man power armored squads though are not as tough and can easily get wiped out by a pie-plate or rapid-fire shooting.

It'll definitely take a bit to really get a good list that conforms to your playstyle but you're off to a good start Very Happy

Would it best to combine the Purifier Squad as a 10-Man troop?

Also, I was thinking of utilizing the SR to carry the Purifiers and Librarian closer. But I'm vacillating about who to team the Libby with.

My questions are:

1. What is the best way to use the SR?
2. Which troop each of the HQs join with?
3. If I drop Psybolt Ammunition and combine the remaining points I have left for a total of 86 points. How should i spend these points
4. Lastly, when, how, and why would a I employ a Brotherhood Banner?

i would keep the 2 purifier squads but have they 2 psycannons and 2 incinerators and use the extra 86 points to buy each squad a rhino so your stormraven isnt the only target for anti tank
i would put the HQs with a terminator squad each
i usally use a banner if i have a libby or paladins to save the pychic test for hammerhand

thats just my thoughts there are people with more experiance here

I got the impression that the banner meant the unit automatically passed its test, so the psychic test was still 'taken' - meaning you couldn't use both hammer hand and force weapons. Am I mistaken in that? Certainly hope so - adds a lot more value to the banner if it is.

If I incorporated (1) SR and (2) Rhinos should I move around some points to enable all three to have Warp Stabilisation Field?

I need advice for trying to understand the basic tactics when using a Terminator/Purifier combo with a GM, Libby, and vehicles.

That's correct, the banner only causes the Psychic test to be automatically passed, you still need to be able to take a psychic test to use the force weapons.

Reasoning? More troops, more psycannons, S5 Storm Bolters, Warp Quake, can DS, are already scoring.

Sounds good! I've been struggling and vacillating on ideas to increase the number of Grey Knight bodies to employ on the battlefield.

Those purifiers can still claim a cover save from the terminators in front.. So they don't necesarily have to have a rhino.
Stormravens are fragile so if you get to go first, deploy them normally then turbo-boost them first turn.
If you go second then it would be advised to deepstrike them if the enemy has guns to take it down. (Nobody wants a dead vehicle before it's done something!)
Oh and I'd swap the incinerators for pyscannons as cleansing flame deals damage to hordes...
If it was me using your list with those points left over, I'd join the squads of purifiers to make better use of grand strategy. Add a brotherhood champion and add 5 purifiers and use the stormraven to transport them. Titans herald plus heroic sacrifice will be used well alongside purifiers! Other than that its also gravvvvy baby Wink

I finally played my first game yesterday.

I played 3 player annihilation game against Chaos Marines and Imperial Guard.

My army consisted of:

HQ

5-Man Squad - Grey Knight Terminator Squad (MC DH, PsyCannon, Psyammo) 250

5-man Squad - Grey Knight Terminator Squad (MC DH, PsyCannon, Psyammo) 250

10 - Man Squad - Purifier Squad (MC HM, HM, 4 - Psycannon, 4 Halberds, Psybolt Ammo) 338

Although a lot of the game is still fuzy in my head I will say I was i,pressed at the resilience of my squads when it came to their armor and invulnerability saves. On average my dice rolls were fairly good but my opponents we fortunate enough to roll good saves as well.

I deep striked a reserve of GTK and was successful in my deployment.

And on my third turn I brought out my SR with my BC and 10-man Purifier Squad and did major damage against the Imperial Guard player.

I'm still learning how all the roll of the die work. as well as all the nuances of allocating wounds, etc.

Overall, i was very pleased with the GK and hope to improve my understanding of the game and tactica.

Overall, according to the tally of kill point, the Chaos Marine player won. Evil or Very Mad

Unfortunately, with all the havoc I caused, 1 or 2 models were left in the units I attacked and the Imperial Guard player took advantage and gave the final blows for the points. Rolling Eyes

So, I had no kill points.... Sad

But for the my very first time playing I was incredibly happy with my Grey Knight Units.

Of all my units, I lost 1 5-man squad of Terminators. (My GM had accompanied them) It took till turn three with the combined effort of the Imperial Guards and Chaos Marines to take down the GKs.

Overall my losses were:

* Lost 5-Man GKT Squad Kephas
* Justicar Elijah remained sole survivor of 5-man GKT Squad Elijah
* 3/5 remaining in Purifier Squad
* No casualties in 10-man Purifier Squad, including the BC
* SR survived

Overall damaged caused:

* Destroyed weapon and immobilized Rhino in Turn 1
* Picked off several Chaos Marines in two units in shooting, assaults, and defending in an assault (I had initiative because of halberds)
* Decimated all but 1/15 of an Imperial guard unit with SR, 10-man Purifier Squad, and BC

If you take the Storm R. which squads will be in it?
If you take the NDK definately need some upgrades, the sword is good maybe with a personal teleporter (thats 100 more points). Or go for firepower with two heavy weapons. (avoid the psilencer IMO)

I like my SR with a TML, Las for long range anti tank.

I've yet to build my NDK. (I have the model now but I just need to build it) Can a NDK take two heavy weapons and the Great Sword options together?

You can take 2 weapons, either a Force weapon and a heavy weapon or 2 heavy weapons

Im definitely interested in fielding a DK , I'm liking the Psycannon + Force hammer for some high strength pwnage...

What exactly are the stats on a heavy psycannon BTW? scratch

Good call on the servo skulls(-1dice for scatter) Psycannons on GKT assault or GKSS/GKP's behind cover will definitley tear up stuff. Mid range S7 damage. Just don't let them within 6in of your servoskulls.

As I fiddle with all the options in my mind and how I'm leaning more to a pure GKT list this is what I've come up with and look forward to your review:

HQ

Try and concentrate my Lib to be in an effective range to benefit at least 1 -2 units for his psychic powers.
