Im brand new to everything here. Just getting into 40k with a friend of mind and I have chosen to go with GKs. I still need to figure out what I want to do. Hope I can find what I want here!

Welcome to the forum!
GK are a great all rounder army, but require a bit more finesse than say Space Marines. It can be a tiny bit of an uphill battle to start (less so with the new codex) but the models are some of the best available, and the rules are fun and relatively balanced.
