Las Vegas NEONCON GT Results
Kyrox and I had a BLAST at the NEONCON 40K GT this weekend! We saw friends from the Anaheim GT we attended several months ago and also met a lot of new people. Definitely a different flavor of armies this time around. Not a single ork player to be found! Only 1 IG, 1 DE and one other GK player other than me. There were a lot of BA, SW and CSM players and several Chaos Daemons players.
Kyrox is going to post the summary of his games later on today. He did quite well battle points wise (better than I did in my first tourney at least )
Being more prepared, I did much better this time around than my first tourney
My 2000 pt GT list
HQ - GM w/ m-c nfw, p-cannon, icon, incense, hood & hammerhand
HQ - Stern
EL - Inquisitor w/ 2 mystics; chimera w/ ea, smoke, sl
TR - 7 x PAGK (1 'cinnie)
TR - 7 x PAGK (1 'cinnie)
TR - 7 x PAGK (2 p-cannons; auspex, targeter)
HS - GK dread w/ twllc, ml, ea, smoke, sl
HS - LR w/ ea, smoke, sl
HS - LR w/ ea, smoke, sl
RD 1 vs Chaos Daemons, DoW deployment, annihilation: Luck of the draw!
He had a Lord of Change, 2 Heralds, 3 DP, lots of pink horrors and flamers.
I went first and deployed w/ my forces packed together, making sure that most of my units were within 12" of my mystics
Both my GM and Stern went on a rampage and tried to outdo each other in banishing daemons But the real hero of this round is my 12 pt mystics. They detected the flamers and horrors that came in right beside my PAGK squads and I was able to annihilate them before they even had a chance to shoot! Totally saved my PAGKs because the flamers of tzeentch meant certain death (no armor or cover saves)
GK - 9 KP Daemons - 5 KP Solid victory of the Grey Knights!
RD 2 vs SM, Pitched battle, hold table center w/ scoring units
He had a librarian, 30 marines in rhinos, 10 termies, bikes, speeders, pred, vindicator and redeemer. Definitely a well rounded list w/ lots of meltas and missile launchers
We deployed our forces like so.
This was an extremely hard list for me to match up to. Lots of meltas are bad enough, but fast moving meltas are worse Couple that w/ multiple missile launchers and a good number of heavy support fire, it was brutal. In hindsight, I could have made some better decisions w/ movement and shooting that might have made the game a little closer.
GK - 0 units SM - 3 units Solid victory for the SM.
RD 3 vs CSM, pitched battle, get as many KP units into enemy deployment zone
He had 2 DP, 2 LR's, khorne squad, noise marine squad, 2 plague marines w/ rhinos, 3 oblits (he didn't have a display board so I wasn't able to take a pic of his army). But deployment was as follows:
The game started out as a shooting match and everything pretty much went as planned except for one huge tactical mistake I made. I had decided to DS my HQ squad (which I never really do so I still couldn't figure out what I was thinking ).
He ended up edging me at game end. If I hadn't DS'd my HQ squad, they would have been in a better position to defend my deployment zone and I could have easily won the game IMO Oh well.
GK - 4 CSM - 6 Victory for the CSM.
RD 4 vs The Ringer Army (my opponent was supposed to be CSM - Black Legion but he didn't show up--Abaddon got scared I think ), pitched battle, 5 objectives
When an opponent doesn't show up, its an automatic minor victory for the other player and it just depends on how well you do vs the Ringer Army to determine the battle points you earn. Guess what the Ringer Army was...Grey Knights!
So it ended up being a really fun paint ball match with some hilarious scenes. Stern charged a GK dread and totally wiffed so the dread squished him flat My GM, who had 2 wounds left at one point, got taken out by the turbo-penetrator bullet from a vindicare The real funny thing was, my brand new silver/black dice that was doing very well against all my opponents, just wouldn't work against fellow GK's
I still accomplished all the mission objectives and scored very well for this round
RD 5 vs Tau, spearhead, annihilation
My opponent's army
Deployment for our forces
He went first so he had his chance at first shots w/ marker lights and all his rail guns. He manage to destroy one LR right off the bat. However, it was downhill for him from there. This was the one sour experience for me because my opponent was downright obnoxious and tried to cheat at every opportunity. It was a good thing I knew the tau codex very well and disputed his attempts. So...I was extremely elated to have kicked his --s!
GK - 9 KP Tau - 1 Solid victory for the Grey Knights.
I scored 56 battle points out of a possible 100 but pretty much maxed out on all other categories (comp, sports, painting) so I placed 7th overall out of almost 30 players so definitely not a bad show for our defunct codex. And lastly, I won best painted army AGAIN! The organizer even made a comment that my NMM crushed everybody else AGAIN lol

Congratulations on another great placing, and a definitely well deserved first painting prize. Sorry to hear you ended up playing a cheater, they always put a dampener on things, what kinds of things was he trying to pull?

Re: Las Vegas NEONCON GT Results
He tried telling me that his plasma weapons were str7 but Tau plasma is str6 but does not "get hot". His broadsides shot me w/ str7 missile pods but I know broadsides can only have a smart missile system at str5. And a couple times he rolled the dice and picked 'em up before I could verify what they were. Things like that.

Re: Las Vegas NEONCON GT Results
Thanks Brothers!! I really appreciate it.
In addition to the painting award, I was EXTREMELY happy to have done well on the battle front as well. Several people remarked to me that they couldn't believe our 3rd ed coex can compete at all in a GT environment.
Of course, I didn't face a horde army this time so there's that too

Re: Las Vegas NEONCON GT Results
I believe its the strength of the player! Plus with Comp and painting and sportsmanship on your side, you were destined to do well.
I love playing my tau, and feel sorry you had to play one cheating. Sadly, most cheaters flock to xenos codexes with large and confusing wargear sections like tau and DE because they know most players don't know or care what everything is and just take peoples words for it. If you ever suspect someone of cheating, have their army list and the Basic rulebook (with their army stats) nearby so you can check like our fine Brother did!

Re: Las Vegas NEONCON GT Results
I dunno so many Space Marine players cheat but put on a dumb face when caught that its hard to tell whether they know or are just really dumb.
Plus Xenos armies do have more confusing rules in some cases, and I've seen alot of GWS stores totally misenterprit rules, so its not suprising people play them wrong.
That being said the guy you dealt with Rivan certainly was just a total cheat.

Congratulations on a fun tourney.
And a baneblade, now you can paint it in inquisition colours and play apocalypse.
Perhaps i should start playing again, i've been on a low for some time now.
