Death Guard vs Grey knights

To Start this off i have included a small battle report in which this Topic caught my attention. Skip past the big block of writing if you want.

I recently started collecting a pure Nurgle, Death Guard army, i thought that Death Guard is one of the toughest armies out there and a pure Nurgle army would function well. I am also a Grey knight player and i recently played my friend who is a chaos player and always wanted to make a death guard army but never did. i leant him my death guard army and we played a 1500 point game. Basically it went like this. 4, 7 man Plague marine squads moved up in rhinos and popped smoke, The Nurgle Daemon Prince flew (with wings) behind cover. Typhus, (who i know is not the best model but one game he single handedly, hunted down and ran 2, 20 man squads of Necron Warriors off the board. i have used him ever since.) waited in reserve for my squad with the icon to get closer. The dreadnought fired normally but to no avail. On my Grey knights turn my psyfleman dread killed a my opponents dread, my 2, 10man purifier squads moved up in rhinos and set up a gun line. Terminators advanced and fired psycannons at the rhinos immobilizing 2. After a couple of turns of back and fourth shooting and advancing i decided to get in his face with my force halberds and put there t5 to the test. 1 by 1 his squads were cleaved away from objectives. Before Typhus could use the icon, the squad was cut down and he scattered on his deepstrike toward the last model he wanted to be near, Draigo (who was in my army because i felt bad for choosing an overpriced HQ for my opponent.) After a short struggle typhus was cut down and victory was ours at last. The only casualties on my side were a Rhino, a handful of purifiers who got to close to melta guns/ bolter fire and a terminator who was killed by the Daemon prince. And i almost tabled my opponent (he conceded). It just seemed too easy, my Death Guard have always been a reliable force but the way they were slaughtered was just unbelievable.

Our Grey Knights counter Death Guard/Plague marines in almost every way: Toughness 5 is countered by Strength 5, feel no pain is countered by force/ power weapons, big ugly Daemons are killed for being daemons who thought they could stand against Grey Knights. My question is: so how can they stand a chance? As i also play Death Guard i am curious, how should i approach playing other Grey Knight players? Maybe I just out played my opponent, Or am i playing a bad list? i have 2 meltas and a fist in each of the 4 squads of 7 PMs in rhinos, which is a hard as nails squad to crack for any army (other than the emperors elite Grey Knights). Have any Grey knight players ever had difficulty facing Death Guard?

Sit in cover and wait. GKs will have to get there, and most firepower will bounce off. Assault with lesser deamons to tie things down for a bit (though obviously not purifiers) and Obliterators.

How do you kill regular space marines? GK after all are spacemarines when it comes to toughness. Just add a vindicator or two to that list.

CSM are not considered a t1 codex anyway, so its always going to be uphill.
Purifiers are particularly nasty however.
Normal GKSS only get 1 attack, 2 on the charge, generally don't have halberds, and are a much shootier unit, which you still get FNP against.

You generally want to avoid combat, and hope Oblits do their job well.

My son and I both have been playing CSM since 5th ed. He plays straight PMs. Against a lot of other armies he has been pretty successful however since I started playing GKs he has not won a single game against me, and not because I am such a better player.
Things that did work pretty well; Typhus and his Manreaper, vindicators, and a couple chosen squads with meltas/plasmas.

The one CSM faction that I have lost to is Ahriman and his Thousand sons. Those AP3 bolters shots make pretty short work of GKSS, inteceptors, and purifiers plust thier 4++ inv saves keep them in combat longer. Obviously they are less affective against terminator armies and even less against Draigowing since every squad has a psyker.

In my CSM army my basic squads have plasma guns or flamers. Multiple wounds or AP2 kills most things and I don't bother with the power fist. I have a squad of bikers with meltaguns for anti-tank but they wouldn't fit in with the Death Guard so well.

Plasma are really an ideal choice in this kind of match up, it just gets hard if your opponent has lots of vehicles as suddenly you need melta.

I find plasma is OK for APCs, and is more useful for these with the 24" range. A couple of (double) meltagun units should be able to deal with enemy armour in most cases.

Then again, Necrons with AV13 kinda blow that out the water. Stupid shields.

I'd go Typhus with Nurgle Termies, and If you've the pts Abbadon, that unit sholud make even GK players think twice, as termy champions are all In (ch)
then its look out for everyone. Also as its Pure Nurgle, try Epidemius and plauge bearers as allys and watch the tally rise. Abbaddon shoolud rapidly increase the tally by himself, and given he ain't a psyker GKs have lttle effect on him, other than Grenades etc.

every army in the 40k Universe get its Nemesis ... and obivously GK are the Nemesis of Deamons and CSM armies !
it will change probably a little since a CSM codex is about to be released. ... we'll see
imho the plasma are good ... for a power armour list ... as soon as the GK player uses a GKT list (as i do) plasma won't be so good...
