1500 for GW store tournament

Hi brothers,

I want to play at my local GW store tournament in 2 weeks from now. 1500 points. no restrictions.

I cant decide what to bring. So ill give you some list ideas and i hope you can help me with my decision

NR.1:

GM - MC psycannon, sword, smokenades
IOM - Termi, hammer, psyker, psycannon

10 Paladins - 4 psycannons, 4 hammers, apothecary, 4 halberds, 2 swords

5 GKSS - psycannon
5 GKSS - psycannon

1 DK - flamer, PT

Obvious concept. Run with my shooty deathstar. score with SS (maybe DS in). DK takes care of most dangerous units for my paladins.
I shouldnt have a ploblem gainst plasmaguns cause every 6 from that unit gets precise shot and i ll snipe them out at 24". Plasmacannons may be handled by my DK.

NR.2:

IOM - termi, psycannon, hammer, psyker
IOM - termi, psycannon, hammer, psyker

10 Terminators - 2 psycannons, psyammo
10 Terminators - 2 psycannons, psyammo

Well this List has 5 more bodys but only Terminators and SS. I dont think i have more survivability with that. Got 2 good shooty units so maybe more flexible...

Well i dont get more bodys with this but maybe more flexibility due to more dif. units...



I also got an SR to use. But i m not sure if hes worth the points. Dont really need his Transportcapacity in 6th and waste points if i dont use it...

I could also use an Aegis defence line with a Quadraflak ...



What do u guys think? Are my lists too extreme?

if you take the "prescience power in list two, then you are completely understating how much firepower you bring to the table. I was using just one of the termie/inquisitor units in a 2k list and I'm not basing all my lists around 2 of those units.

However, now that I think about it, list 1 has one hell of a deathstar...put both HQ's with the paladins and add prescience...I'm actually a little frightened of the shooting power...excuse me while i play test these list 1...

Well yeah i forgot to say that. IOMs always take these kind of psypowers (forgot the name too )
Also the HQs in list 1 go with the paladins and the IOMs in list 2 and 3 go with one termiesquad each.

That is exactly what list 1-3 is all about

Thing is list 1 has so much firepower in this unit. It will kill whatever it shoots a turn. BUT it can only shoot one target a turn, if i dont split the HQs . I fear that this could be a problem as many armys can field alot of stuff in 1500 points.
On the other side again its so much firepower is oo nice

well with that dread knight is going to tie up a few units through the game, which means your paladins will shoot everything to hell and beyond with less things shooting at it in return. Plus...they're paladins with feel no pain...they'll be eating a lot of pain and marching through it anyway. Play that list tactically, not like civil war, and you should come out on top.

Is the fact that noone else wrote something means everyone would go with list 1 ?

I love paladins so I like List 1 but List 2 is a close second

I m still not convinced if thats enough units to effectivlly playing. But i really like the elite list style

As for tactics: (List Nr. 1)

I ll walk the Deathstar right trough the middle. Trying to effectivly have most things in range of all but also trying to spread out as much as possible.
1. Most ppl forget about focus fire in 6th
2. Not giving my oponent to much space to flank or get behind me
I m not sure what to do with the formation. I could walk my ICs right infront to get more psycannons in range sooner. 2+ on "Watch out sir" should be enough to protect them?!

My DK will hunt down weaker support squads. Like Longfangs or Scout-Snipers. Also getting flanking units.
His task will be the crucial to my game.

My 2 SS will DS in to secure Objectives. Maybe only one DSing depends on the mission (objectives in my side).

Any advice or tipps how to play this?

Well, watch out for high strength, low ap, large blast markers and use the fear that surrounds your deathstar

Fear is a good word as i forgot the Fear from my DK every game in 6th

Well i did a test game today versus Nids.

He got lots of Gargoyles, some hormagaunts, one tervigon, 2 tyrants with wings, squad of venators..

We rolled for the "support scoring mission". with 5!!! objectives.

Well that is worst case for this list with mass army against me and max number of objectives

To make it short: I made some mistakes with my DK. Lost him too early. My opponent did some rule mistakes. I grabed first blood tho. He just killed my 2 SS with his tyrants. Got only a 1 on strategy so only my paladins were scoring.
I was left wth my Deathstar, He had Tervigon, squad of hormagaunts, one squad of termagaunts and one tyrant left. He was too spread to kill them all so he won i think 10-5.

This list has too many points in one unit. Even without my big mistakes i dont think i can win objectives games gainst smart player. Was obvious before but i dont think i ll fight with this in a tournament . So back to the drawing paper. Need a more balanced list !

10 GKIS - 2 psycannons

Place DK+IS oos. SS DS on objective later, Terminators ready to charge.
First turn DS mordrak in, Jump IS + DK on one flank with mordrak. March on with the Terminators to place preasure on his line.

Well if anyone still cares i found my list i think.
Its nothing special and a bit boring but most competitive as i can get with my minis.

Dk in use as it works for me. Get around and kill soft high valueble targets or stronger targets after that

Played something like that on 1900 points. Worked well.

The Champ goes with GKSS to add some punch and the Inquisitor with Terminators
The idea is to be able to combat squad the GKSS or Terminators if needed or keep it as one to make that unit more robust.

I have found that most games are won due to secondary objectives so the NDK "shunt" up to get weak unit for first blood and possibly line breaker or could DS for that one. Maybe the champ will kill enemy lord for the 3rd.

Did u play with this list before? Dont u get problems with 2 scoring units.. even with the ICs? All in all u have only 4 units with that
Like the idea of the punchy SS but i m not sure they re getting to their target without transport. (My Marines always get wiped by some winged tyrant or smthg )

Well tourney over.

Got only 1-0-2 stats but that were really close loses. End round 5 i would ve won both. Sadly round 6 came

4-6, 3-7, and 17-0 the games. Tabled that IG guy

List worked well even against hard matchups (Chaos plasma spam). Made only a few mistakes (forgetting HH). All in all i m happy.

I played my DK with heavy psycannon and flamer without PT and DS him in. That worked for me. He died in every game but hes just a juicy target.
List may lack at high str weapons gainst LR or Leman Russ. Mech lists give me a hard time.


What i m not happy about is the way this "tournament" was played. We had only 48"*48" tables with nearly no terrain. One plate had 4 pieces. Few sight blockers.
Also 3 players knew what the others played and build lists to counter best...
Thats just not professional. Expected more from a GW store...

I built a list similar to your third, so far it is my favourite Grey Knight list I've played.

I could always opt out of the Personal Teleporters and deep strike the DK's if I need more feet on the ground.

In fact, I had a 100% record against my brothers (who collectively field semi-competitive Blood Angel, Necron and Imperial Guard Armies).

That was until the last game, against my youngest brother (The Necron Player), who had recently bought and played 6 Canoptek Wraiths. They killed six of my terminators on a single charge; partly due to rending and partly due to my bad rolling. After which the match, a relic scenario, was virtually unwinnable.

Against certain armies, it seems that fielding so few scoring units is a huge risk.

I love list 1.
I would combat squad your palidins and keep all of the Psycannons and HQs in one squad (mid field) while your other squad is used as a scoring CC squad. At 1500 points this list would rock.
