Actually don't think we're unique. IIRC one of the tau characters gets an honour guard that counts as a retinue, but then again Tau are xenos scum(and 4th edition) and therefore shouldn't countRivan wrote:I guess it makes us unique still lol you're right, 3rd ed cheese FTW

Re: BC Stern
The Imperial Guard Company Commander has a Retinue. Of course he comes with it, but it still acts like a Retinue. And that is a 5th Edition codex.

Re: BC Stern
I figure there is a good case to keep the retinue rule for fluff reasons.
The power armoured Grey Knights' primary purpose is to clear the way of mortals/lesser daemons for the terminators to reach the target; the terminators' primary task is to get the hero to the target itself because he has the best chance slaying the big daemon/primarch/sentient warpgate. Each one is willing to sacrifice themselves to get the right person in the right place at the right time.
Like Neo in The Matrix or a star player in Blood Bowl.
Though that goes very much against my general plan of avoiding going halberd to talon with things than can open up my Grand Master like a cashew nut. I think I'm an Alpha Legion man in a Grey Knight world :-s

Re: BC Stern
If we get good SS next edition it will be less of an issue esp if we kept the retinue! Absorb all those hits onto the invulnerable saves and then kick some daemon ___. Of course now with 5th ed everyone is so far ahead that terminators are much less valuable sadly.
I also wouldn't really consider it cheese, GK don't have much going for them.

I can guarantee there will be no retinue in the new dex. GW is definitely on a mission to turf old-style rules like that.

Re: BC Stern
I figure the rule will probably go.
In the design studio peoples' minds mighty heroes will have at each other in glorious single combat- Independent characters will seek each other out while the combat rages around them.
In actuality everyone's heroes are going to be painfully penetrated by powerfisting plebeians in squads.
