2000 pt vs CSM
My 2000 pt proposed tourney list made its playtest debut vs CSM over the weekend. Mission was annihilation w/ DoW deployment.
CSM list
DP w/ m of tz, wings, bolt of change
7 x plague marines (2 meltas), rhino w/ ea
7 x plague marines (2 meltas), rhino w/ ea
6 x noise marines (1 blast master, 5 sonic blasters), rhino w/ ea
8 x possessed marines
3 x chaos termies (3 combi-meltas)
Transport: chaos LR
1 x defiler
2 x chaos predators
My list
GM w/ m-c nfw, icon, incense, grimoire & HH
Ret: 4 GKT's (1 'cinnie, 1 TH/SS)
7 x PAGK (1 'cinnie)
7 x PAGK (1 'cinnie)
7 x IST (2 meltas), chimera w/ ml, hb, ea & sl
7 x IST (2 meltas), chimera w/ ml, hb, ea & sl
LR w/ ea & sl
LR w/ ea & sl
LR w/ ea & sl
My opponent went first and proceeded w/ deploying his DP behind cover as well as 1 squad of p-marines in their rhino also behind cover, both on his left flank. His chaos termies were deepstriking. His possessed rolled a 6 and have power weapons.
I deployed nothing on the board.
1st turn - The rest of his forces moved in and he pretty much evenly spaced out his units along his board edge w/ the 1 pred and the n-marines on his right flank, the LR (possessed embarked), the other pred and the other p-marine squad (in rhino) in the middle and the defiler on his left flank to support the DP and the first p-marine squad. No shooting because he had nothing to shoot at yet
My forces moved in and formed a tight wedge using one big piece of terrain on my right flank w/ 2 LR's moving 12" and both chimeras moving 6" behind them. The 3rd LR moved in and closed the pyramid to completely surround the chimeras b/w the LR's and the terrain. I knew his termies were assigned tank hunting and I made sure to give them a very small area to DS in I chose my right flank because it was directly across from the defiler; it gave his LR and center predator only 1 LR to shoot at; and it put all my units out of range of his predator on his far right flank. My LR w/in LOS of his LR and pred popped smoke while my other LR tried to see the defiler but failed the night fighting roll.
2nd turn - His termies did come in and he selected the small area right in the center of my pyramid of vehicles, around a 7" square area. It was very gutsy but it paid off and they arrived on target. Defiler fired its battle cannon and it bounced off my LR. The chaos LR and pred both fired at LR that popped smoke and managed to penetrate once (reduced to glancing) and stunned it. His other pred and noise marines were out of range. One rhino w/ p-marines zoomed 12" and popped smoke. His termies fired all combi-meltas, hit twice, penetrated once, and rolled a 1. Totally got lucky there
On my turn, my HQ squad disembarked to take on the chaos termies. The LR that was stunned fired once and stunned the pred. The other LR shot the p-marine rhino but it made its 2 cover saves. The chimeras and the HQ squad lit up the termies but only 1 went down so the HQ squad assaulted and dispatched the remaining 2.
KP: GK - 1 CSM - 0
3rd turn - His 2nd pred inched closer and together with his chaos LR, poured shots into 1 LR but only managed to destroy 1 lc. The defiler took a bead on 1 chimera and hit once w/ its reaper ac but I made my cover save. His p-marine rhino that popped smoke last round zoomed another 12" and fired 2 meltas from the fire point and completely destroyed 1 LR. And he rolled 5 wounds on my PAGK squad as well. I failed 4 of 5 armor saves and lost 4 PAGK.
On my turn, the 3 surviving PAGK moved and hopped into the empty HQ LR. The HQ squad moved up to the p-marine rhino. The chimeras and one LR poured fire into the p-marine rhino and wrecked it, forcing the p-marines out. The other LR shot its remaining twllc at the pred but did nothing. The HQ squad shot and assaulted the p-marine squad and wiped it out.
KP: GK - 3 CSM - 1
4th turn - He zoomed his other p-marine rhino closer to my LR w/ the 1 twllc followed closely by the DP. I noticed he was keeping his DP as far away from my HQ squad as he can His defiler moved closer to my HQ squad and hit w/ both reaper ac shots but the bc shot scattered away and I made both armor saves. His chaos LR and 2 preds poured everything into the other LR and again failed to destroy it.
On my turn, the HQ squad backed up. The HQ LR shot and destroyed the defiler. The chimeras and the LR w/ 1 twllc shot up the 2nd p-marine rhino but it made 4 cover saves from popping smoke!
KP: GK - 4 CSM - 1
5th turn - His 2nd p-marine rhino moved up to my LR and wrecked it w/ meltas. I made sure to disembark my 7 PAGK on the side away from the DP's charge range. His DP decided to bolt one of the chimeras instead but my GM blocked it w/ the hood. The rest of his units switched fire on my remaining LR but again did nothing.
On my turn, the HQ squad moved towards my PAGK squad to support. They wouldn't make it to the DP but they'll be there to counter-charge for sure. The HQ LR moved in as well. The PAGK squad and the chimeras moved closer to the plague rhino and the IST meltas destroyed it although no wounds were caused. The PAGK squad and HQ squad lit up the p-marines but only 2 went down. I then assaulted w/ the PAGK squad and killed 3 and lost 1 GK.
KP: GK - 5 CSM - 2
Random game length roll was a 1 so game ends and victory for the Grey Knights
It was a fairly easy game although we traditionally do well in annihilation missions anyway. I was lucky my opponent made some tactical errors. His possessed marines didn't do squat. In our post-game discussion, I suggested that they should have embarked in the noise marines' rhino and joined the fray. They could possibly have done something vice staying in the LR and playing poker all game The noise marines weren't really able to do much since they had no LOS on the chimeras and they had nothing that could really hurt the LR's (the blastmaster could have at str 8 but very slim chance).
On my part, I had thought of running and gunning my LR's to avoid those meltas but I went for the 2 for 1 math instead -- in order for him to destroy 1 unit, he'll have to come close and most likely give up 2 units. Besides, I'd rather him go for my LR's rather than go for the softer chimeras and IST squads

Re: 2000 pt vs CSM
A very well played match right there. I really like how your entire army is mechanized and how it worked well. Though, I am curious as to how the Defiler was able to fire both the reaper autocannon and the battle cannon, because the battle cannon would prevent him from being able to fire any other weapons that turn.
In the end though, there are few things better for a Grey Knight then to stand upon the broken bodies of foul traitor marines.

Hmmm, you're right. Forgot about the ordnance rule. I'll let him know for next time.
Funny thing is, my son (who watched the game) liked some parts of my opponent's list and got some ideas to tweak his own list

Nicely done Rivan. Always good to see the tainted chastised by our holy hand. Boy, do I love Annhilation missions when the other side is Rhino heavy.
