Battle Missions report SM vs Chaos Demons

Greetings brothers, today I got the opportunity to play one of the battle missions scenarios, in a 4v4 SM vs Demons match.
Each player had a set of units assigned to them.

Unfortunately I won't be able to list the specifics but it was roughly as follows:

Our objective: hold or contest a tower in order to win (demons had to capture the tower)

Team SM (which I was on)
Sicarius and command squad, with razor back - controlled by me
- 10 man Tactical squal w plasma cannon and ven dread w plasma cannon
- lascannon Predator and 10 man tactical squad with missile launcher (controlled by annoying kid)
- Assault terminators (3 lightning claws, 2 TH) with a chaplain

Team Demons
- 2 squads of bloodletters one had the Khorne HQ guy, other squad in reserves)
- a squad of chaos beast mounts (the khorne ones) also in reserves
- 2 squads of slanesh demonettes (1 in reserves)
- Soulgrinder (reserves)
- Slanesh mount thing (reserves)
- Khorne Juggernaught
- Mask of Slanesh thing (reserves)

Turn 1:
SM:
Not much movement. Mostly shooting. Razorback scores a kill against one bloodletter, tactical marines and lascannon predator scores 3 or so kills, Plasma cannon from dread kills 1 slanesh thing.

Demons:
Soulgrinder arrives from reserves at table edge, very close to command squad and sicarius, fires phlem, killing 4 command tac marines, then fires some other weapon (6 shots I think) with no effect. Bloodletters arrive near soulgrinder and move to objective. All other units not in reserve move up on tac marines, whilst slanesh demonettes move on dread.

Turn 2:
SM: Tactical marines fire on bloodletters, reducing it to a bloodletter and HQ guy. Predator fires on soulgrinder, destroying the phlem spitter. Terminators move towards bloodletters, only to find that we are not within assault range, so run 2" backwards. Dreadnought sits in cover and kills a demonette. Plasma tac marines move into the tower.

Demons: Chaos mounts arrive from reserves and move to bloodletters position. Bloodletters charge predator with 30 S4 rending power weapon attacks, causing a penetrating hit and an explosion. Explosion kill 3 or so bloodletters. Slanesh mount charges missile tac marines and wins combat, tac marines fall back to the objective, whilst the demon consilidates to cover. Demonettes move on dread. Juggernaught moves to tac marines.

Turn 3:
SM: Plasma tac marines in tower fire on chaos mounts, killing 7 with 1 remaining. Terminators and sicarius get close, firing into the bloodletters then charging, destroying all 10 bloodletters with no casualties. Dreadnought moves out of cover and burns demonettes, reducing their squad to 4 units. Missile launcher tac marines get 16 bolter rounds at juggernaught, killing it. Razorback fires at slannesh demon with no effect.

Demons: Soul grinder charges termintors and kills one lightning claw. In return terminators destroy a weapon and immobilise it. Slannesh demons charge dread with no effect, dread kills a demonette. Khorn mount charges Sicarius and apothecary and is slain. Sicarius consolidates towards razorback. Khorn HQ charges tactical marines, who are slaughtered with 6 casualties. Tac marines kill 2 bloodletters.

Turn 4:
SM: Game is actually looking very good for SM. Dreadnought destroys squad of demonettes, consolidates towards tower. Tac marines are unable to do anything. Missile tac marines are destroyed (annoying kid leaves ). Terminators fail to do anything to soulgrinder who kills 2 terminators. Razorback moves up, fires with no effect. Sicarius moves up to razorback.

Demons: Demonettes arrive and attempt to run to other tac marines but roll short. Mask of slanesh moves position. Khorne HQ with bloodletter move on objective. Soulgrinder kills another terminator, demon mount moves past tac marines in an attempt to charge sicarius.

Turn 5:
SM: Dreadnought moves to demonettes, flaming them, whilst plasma tac marines fire on demonettes. Demonettes are almost destroyed. Again terminators fail to do anything to soulgrinder who kills a terminator. Razorback fails to kill anything. Sicarius fires plasma pistol, which overheats, burning him, reducing him to one wound.

Demons: Sicarius is charged by slanesh mount, which is slain. Bloodletters with HQ contest objective. Slanesh demonettes charge dread and are destroyed. Soulgrinder and termies do nothing to each other. Mask of slanesh moves out, sweeping tactical marines away from the objective leaving bloodletter and HQ in control of the objective!!!

SM Kill points: 5, Demon Kill points 2

Game ends, with Demon victory who control the objective.

Throughout the entire game, spacemarines controlled the battlefield, with incredibly tight defence we racked up huge amounds of kills with minimal casualties. In the final turn the blasted mask of slanesh swept the tac marines away from the objective and screwed everything up.

Had the game gone on for another turn it would have been a solid SM victory. One thing that I should have done was moved the razorback to block the advance of the bloodletter and HQ, denying them of the objective in time.

It was a good game though, SM team performed well, and one thing I learned is that a lot of very annoying people play 40k

Moral of the story: don't send Astartes to do a Grey Knight's job

That was the problem, we were having so much fun killing demons that we forgot to hold the tower
