The game was enjoyable and at the same time instructional. My opponent hadn’t played in a few years and was therefore a little rusty on all the rule changes. I told him I’d guide him along as much as I could (from what little experience I have w/ 5th ed LOL). Actually, I ended up helping him quite a bit during the game by reminding him to move his units or to shoot since he would forget. Overall, it was a good game. I’m sure my opponent would perform better as he gets more familiar with 5th ed.

1750 pt Chaos army list
HQ - Kharn the Betrayer
HQ – Chaos Lord w/ bolt pistol and PF
ELITES – 6 Chaos termies (1 reaper AC)
TR – 16 Khorne berserkers
TR – 10 Chaos marines (1 HB, 1 plasma gun) mounted in a rhino
TR – 10 Chaos marines (1 plasma gun) mounted in a rhino
HS – Chaos dread w/ PC and CCW
HS – LR

My 1750 pt list
HQ – GM Rivan w/ MC-weapon, psycannon, psychic hood, SI & Hammerhand
Retinue of 3 GKTs (1 psycannon)
ELITES – BC Olorin w/ psycannon + 3 GKTs (1 psycannon) squad has Holocaust
TR – 6 PAGKs (targeter) (Squad Armael)
TR – 6 PAGKs (targeter, 1 incinerator, melta bombs) (Squad Raguiel)
TR – 6 PAGKs (1 incinerator, melta bombs) (Squad Uriel)
HS – LR Draco Tempestus w/ EA, DB & SL
HS – LR Sanctus Fidelis w/ EA, DB & SL

Mission: Capture and Control
Deployment: Pitched battle
GKs have First turn

Deployment is as shown. Objectives are marked 1 & 2. All terrain had 4+ cover.

Turn 1
D.T. backed up and shoots Rhino 1 and immobilizes it. S.F. moves forward and shoots the dread and destroys it. Rivan and retinue fire on the C-termies and kills 1. Squad Olorin fires on berserkers but fail to kill any.
LR moves and attempts to shoot at Rivan but fail shrouding. Termies move and fire R-AC at Squad Armael but does nothing. Chaos lord and berserkers both move forward. Kharn moves toward berserkers. CSM squad 1 disembark from immobilized rhino and move to difficult terrain.

End of Turn 1: GK – 1 CSM – 1
Turn 2
Rivan moves and fires on C-termies. D.T. moves 12” and fires at LR (LR makes cover save). Olorin moves & fires on berserkers and kills 2. S.F. moves 12” onto terrain and fires on berserkers but does nothing.
LR firs on D.T, penetrates but only stuns (or shakes). C-termies fire on Rivan. Berserkers and CL move forward. Kharn moves into terrain. CSM squad 1 moves through terrain.

End of Turn 2: GK – 1 CSM – 1
Turn 3
S.F. moves forward and kills 1 berserker. Rivan moves within 2” of D.T. Squad Raguiel disembarks. Armael, Raguiel and Rivan all fire at the C-termies and kill all but one.
Last C-termie moves forward, fires but does nothing. Berserkers continue to move. Kharn decides to move back towards Rhino 2. CSM Squad 2 disembarks. Rhino 2 moves 12”. Squad 1 continues to move through terrain.

Turn 4
Rivan embarks and D.T. moves 12” and pops smoke. S.F. moves 12” and pops smoke. Olorin fires at squad 2 and kills 2. Squad Armael and Raguiel shoot and kill last C-termie.
Chaos lord moves towards S.F. LR shoots and immobilizes S.F. Rhino moves 6” and fires combi-flamer at squad Armael, killing 1. Berserkers continue moving. Chaos lord assaults S.F. with power fist and does nothing.

End of Turn 4: GK – 1 CSM – 1

Turn 5
Uriel disembarks, shoots up squad 2, assaults and kills 6 but loses 1 (more importantly, this causes squad 2 to move due to the defender’s react rule and end up leaving their objective). D.T. moves 12”, shoots LR but does nothing. Rivan disembarks and shoots chaos lord, causing 1 wound. Armael moves toward rhino 2, assaults and destroys it. Raguiel moves into terrain. Olorin shoots into berserkers but they make their saves.
LR shoots at D.T. and fails. Squad 1 shoots at Rivan but does nothing. Chaos lord moves and assault Rivan and gets force-killed right away. Berserkers assault Rivan and retinue, kills one GKT but loses 4. They lose combat and lose 1 more berserker. Kharn assaults into squad Armael, causes 4 hits on GKs and 2 hits on his own CSM (LOL). He kills 3 GKs and his last two CSM (yay!). GK’s lose combat, and had to make 1 armor save and Justicar goes down.

Good game overall. My opponent challenged me to a re-match which we played this afternoon. I'm putting my notes together for that batrep. Stay tuned... Very Happy

Congrats on the win there Rivan. Made me cringe though on how your opponent played (or didn't play) Kharn. Kharn with a squad of 'Zerkers in the LR could really have made life miserable on your own objective. Your list really seems to be working well so far.

Excellent batrep Brother Rivan; always good to hear of glorious victory against our nemesis Chaos Very Happy

Strange though; I would figure having Psycannons on the normal Grey Knight troops would be better then Incinerators; to cut down the Berserkers before they get to whatever object/against the Grey Knights. Berserkers are rather nasty as we all know at point blank, but nothing the Grey Knights shouldn't be able to face, assuming they whittle down the 20 strong groups. Do you find the incinerators come in handy more often then the Psycannons?

Blah, Kharn the Betrayer. Nasty guy. Does his weapon ignore armor saves by the way? If so, that's freakish. I would imagine your Grandmaster and his Retinue would be able to cut that freak up fast however. Looking forward to seeing your next batrep; the anticipation's always killing me Very Happy

You're darn tootin' they're all power weapon attacks. All seven of them. After he has his swings the 'Zerkers (on the charge) will have theirs as well before we can respond. Even a Grand Master and ret will be very hard-pressed to survive. The key is to get the charge in first so you'll at least be swinging with the 'Zerks.

No good intel on that...but if you want to rely on the current rumors, the new Inquisition codex is supposed to be out late 2010. The codex incorporates all the Ordos and includes the GK, SoB and DW.

I look forward to good Invul saves Razz 2010's only another year, but I'm sure they'll push it back further....

And for Kharn, that's BS. I hate that jerk; if the Grandmaster goes first I'm sure he could cut that freak up like a hot knife through a small frail child Razz

The rumor of one combined Inquisition codex has been debunked, Rivan. The last 'concrete' rumor was seperate codices that focuses more heavily on Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle respectively. That rumor accordingly came from official GW people. A 2010 release date IMHO is too optimistic though I hope the Emperor proves me wrong. Smile

So, so VERY true brother! The Terminators in Space Hulk were gorgeous; we can only wait and hope that they will do the same for the Grey Knights at some point.

Totally agree w/ the beautiful plastic termies from SH. The details were awesome!

I guess we can only wait and pray for our new codex (and new models hopefully) to arrive...
