May the Emperor forgive me
I am afraid I must report news of failure.
I have recently played a battle against a friend, where the only way I could win was to kill his commander and the Greater daemon possessing him.
I won't go into a full report, because it was a general bloodbath, but to cut a long story short, at the end of the game (5th turn) I had one inquisitor lord around 12" from his commander, and one inquisitor in combat with two squads of catachan guardsmen. I firmly believe that if the game had continued to a 7th turn then I would have won, but alas, 'twas not my day.
Maybe next time...

Oh well it could have been worse!
Normally my battles with friends end in my army being smeared across the board, but my friends like to play competitively and also know alot more about the game than I do and tend you lean towards tailoring lists to kill me... lol
Always laugh when we organise a game and they want my list a few days in advance....
It was good last game when I used me eldar force and the first two turns for him went really badly - he looked raelly upset, but then my luck didn't last.
Still as long you learnt from the game its a victory!

Geez, killing the possessed guy seems more like a secondary objective rather than the only game-winning one. Was he he under any special rules to have to attack or could he just run him out of harm's way? As Zeal said, a loss is never a failure if you take the lessons from that battle and apply them to your next one.

No, he could just flee. It nearly didn't work though. But it was part of a campaign I'm running with a few friends, so we can get away with some really ridiculous missions as long as it advances the story.

Re: May the Emperor forgive me
Well, i played a while ago.
Slaughter, mayhem and every single deamonhunter died against the foul xeno Tau.
(Weedy fish-heads)
It was fun though, even the eversors epic 1st turn fail charge was fun.
Raging in on a hopeless unit of firewarriors the eversor unleashes 11 attacks, and kills...... 2.
All in all he killed 6 models, 2 of those when he exploded.

Would a Vindicare Assassin with Shield-Breaker rounds to zap the Invulnerable Save perhaps have worked better vs that possessed commander?

Re: May the Emperor forgive me
I was shooting him before the Daemon came out, so I don't think he could use the invul save anyway. He was actually spared by a 5+ cover save before his meat shields came so close that I had no real choice but to assault.
