Dreadnoughts?
We've been playing with the codex for long enough now and I think it's obvious that we're an aggressive force. Our tactics are about alpha striking with Dreadknights and securing with obsec Raiders and Terminators. So how do we cover the backfield objectives and increase the anti-tank firepower if we don't want to ally?
10 points more expensive, reduced from strength 8 to 7 and a switch of psychic power. The dreadnought is much maligned in our codex this edition - and rightly so, compared with almost all other marine codices it is a worse option. But it did receive one major improvement, it was moved from support to elites meaning you no longer have to choose between Knights and Noughts and whilst more expensive than other iterations from other books, taking something form the GK codex means you forgo the HQ / troop tax if you opted for allies.
I'll be trialing this 1850 list for a while and report back on performance. I opted for twin linked auto cannons (TLA) as I have the Contemptor models but will also trial plasma cannon / heavy flamer dreads.
Librarian
5 Terminators, hammer, incinerator
Land Raider Redeemer, multi melta (or a Godhammer and keep the Librarian in reserve with the other Terminator squad)
5 Terminators
Dreadnought, 2 x TLA
Dreadnought, 2 x TLA (possibly switch one for a plasma cannon, heavy flamer armament)
10 Interceptors, 2 x incinerators
Dreadknight, hammer, heavy psycannon, personal teleporter

Dreadknight, greatsword heavy incinerator, personal teleporter

Re: Dreadnoughts?
I love dreadnoughts but I do not rate Autocannons at all, especially in GK lists. Its like a crap psycannon. Your having to switch out both arms just to achieve what 1 psycannon on a terminator can do and your not getting rending.
If you are going for gun platform dreads I would personally recommend TL-Lascannon / Missle launcher. Otherwise consider maybe Plasma cannons. Very good anti-TEQ in an army that doesn't have a great deal of AP2 outside CC.

Re: Dreadnoughts?
There are a couple of advantages to the TLA
1. Most importantly this load out is 15 points cheaper than the TLLC / ML so I can fit all the other parts of my army in. Just!
2. 48" range - we don't have any ranged units to objective camp, using a Landraider for this is a waste of it's transport capacity
3. Twin linked - a credible anti air threat
Psycannons in Terminator units are obviously great but....
1. 24" range
2. Normally wasted stormbolter fire if shooting at a larger target
3. In this list the Terminators would either be in the transport or reserved so wouldn't be able to use the points invested until T2 and then i'll be charging with my Raider unit so wouldn't want to increase my charge distance
There are certainly other options but this is my rationale for what I chose
It's very difficult to run a pure GK list with 10 influential units at 1850, this list manages that by not over equipping but most importantly begins with 9 on the table from T1 and all have sufficient threat range to kill and score on the first turn. In maelstrom there is often a first turn points grab if you're mobile enough and this army certainly is.
IMO deepstike armies are a handicap, yeah with the nemesis formation you don't lose the first turn but only on a 3+ and still scattering. You'll come in piece meal and off target more often than not and you have no obsec.
This list allows 90% of my points to affect the game from the off with only a basic obsec unit in reserve for late game, in our old codex this list would contain 6 support choices.
The plan would be:
- Dreadnoughts grab back field objectives
- Interceptors combat squad and grab forward objectives
- This leaves three Dreadknights and a Landraider / Lib / Terminator squad to be the distraction whilst the rest get the job done.
- 5 Terminators in reserve for late scoring

I am more than familiar with how that can happen!
I look forward to hearing how the list performs.
Perhaps you could do a bat rep with pictures afterwards for us

Re: Dreadnoughts?
So I joined a local club this week and played against someone new!
Perfect opportunity to try this new list out. My opponent was playing Mantis Warriors which are a Forgeworld Chapter offshoot of the White Scars.
The list performed admirably and I finished the game with a resounding 15 - 5 point victory
Next up is a rematch against Harlequins on Saturday followed by my first ever battle against a green tide Ork list next Thursday. I've made a few tweaks to the list and for the next two battles I'll be running:
Librarian, teleporter homer
5 Terminators, hammer
Landraider Redeemer, multi-melta
5 Terminators, hammer, psycannon
Dreadnought, power fist, twin-linked autocannon
Dreadnought, power fist, twin-linked autocannon
10 Interceptors, 2 incinerators
Dreadknight, greatsword, heavy incinerator, personal teleporter
Dreadknight, hammer, heavy psycannon, personal teleporter
Dreadknight, hammer, heavy psycannon, personal teleporter
1850 points
I'll try to get pics for the next ones
