long lost brother returns
Hail, Brothers of titan
I ask thee to welcome back into the fold Brother Raguel.
Answering a call to arms by the marine chapters to defeat a great rising evil on Terra, I sought out the enemy and smited them, I've battled hard against many foes and spilt their and my own blood uppon planet Terra, only to learn of the deciept, corruption and manipulation of elements in the chapters to install a false emperor and I was part of that plan.
Now I return, wiser, resolute, uncorrupted, defiant against those that would see my soul broken and those that would see my body burn, but scarred, with tales that would leave Drago catatonic in the shower and give mordraks ghosts nightmares
So I take I knee and await your judgement
Ok fluffy touch done, hope it wasn't to far outta the real fluff
Right well where to start, I played space crusade back in the day (12/13) which I bought off a friend and was kinda hooked ..even had a stab at painting but never had the right kit or paints or knew what the hell I was doing (just ended up with that kinda dirty crappy purple colour you get, blobbed terminators)
Not really the game it is today with a small fanbase, few players and not the simplest of games to just pick up and play (much like today) it was a short lived practically, but I always maintained an interest.
Now over 20 years later .....well rewind 2 years, my son then 12 sees a friend of his playing 40k ..so I go get space hulk space crusade and all expansions off eBay nearly mint except the boxes, see how it goes, we play, he likes, but it went no further.
This Christmas comes along and he meets a group of players of mixed ages through his circle of friends, watches a few games and decides he wants in
And he wants to go chaos, so with some skill and luck manage to get him about a 5000pts, fairly painted(easy to improve), diverse army for £240 (€190/ $150 +/-)
Sorted!
Well now he needs to learn how to play, and to be honest I needed something of a hobby so thought I'd invest about £100 into an army from eBay to be a rival and help him learn. A few weeks of research later and I'm sold ...grey knights for me, I like the minis, and the general fluff (s/f space marines suits me )
But an offer too good to turn down came up, I couldn't hazard a guess at how many points but I'm currently writing a 8000 pt list, I can field the WHOLE list in a oner consisting of 4x10 man pagk 1x5 man pagk, 2 x 10 tagk, 1x10 man palidin 15x solodin 4x dreadnoughts 1x dreadknight stormraven and talon mordrak and ghosts coteaz, Drago, 2 inq, 2 gm, 2 monkies (9 suitable subs for psychers ,x6 and plasma servitors x3) and 4x vindicars
And still have 2 landraiders, about a dozen pagk, and a medium case full of henchmen ...oh and a box of bits
All in a mixed stage of painting, unpainted, or easily improved and looking more like a single army rather than a patchwork of paint jobs
For .......£240
YES!
Now the Mrs starts looking at the painting, looks interested, suggests having a go, well I fancy it, the son fancy's it, so I go looking again ...2 weeks later ....ultimate paint set , New tubs but no box £170?....144 paints plus 4 technical?
Yes please
£25 on brushes, 200 magnets and a cheap dremel rip off
Now I don't mean to brag, but I'm one of those kinda guys that can turn his hand to anything, a little research can go a long way!
so through blogs and YouTube I learn how to paint.....
6weeks later I'm NEARLY there.
4 pagk need details with about 8 to do from scratch
( Sorry I'm not near my army at the moment) about 50 termies needing golds and details and a spare Drago, Crowe, and stern to do ( 1 will prob become my avatar GM) but wow.........production line painting is painful work.
In my attempt to get my army up to scratch in minimal time I opted to paint them in bulk ....Now I'm wishing I'd done 5 at a time, the details are sapping me and I'm finding it easier to do in short stints a few times a day. But I'm really looking forward to doing single characters after, and see a mini shape better in front of me, and going colour crazy with some eldar I got given
Playing as often as I can against my son and the circle but only faced chaos and tau so far (oh how I hate those tau ....here have a mordrak bomb + inq with plasma syphon and shrouding mwa haha)
Well, sure I've rattled on enough for now
Will now go and see if I can post some pics
( wrote bulk of this last night )
So hi all, looking forward to becoming part of the community, learning and contributing along the way

Re: long lost brother returns
Bloody good work brother Dellboy. I hope you're painting Titans independent traders on the side of a yellow Stormraven!
Good to have you back, great acquisitions and amazing work roping the mrs in with the painting. Reading this is the inspiration I needed to go paint a dreadnought. Thanks and enjoy your stay.

Cheers brother Domin8trix
Keeper of the sacred words Ni, Peng and Neee-wom
The Mrs interest in painting was the tick in the box to get the paints, she's not really had chance to yet tho, but done some washes and purity seals for me, the eldar was mainly for her to go crazy on with lumi, pinks and greens lol

Pretorians ...are they the guys looking like brit red coats ?
I recall seeing them in the past but didn't have a clue what they were
But I can't take full credit for mordrak and his ghosts ...they were among the better painted minis that needed minimal messing with

Yes that's the red coats. Looking like british soldiers in South Africa around 1900.

Of course Praetorians are one of the finest IG models ever created with the Valhalans and the Tallarn.
They are models from the GW golden age !!
Cherish them and never sell them !
