Imperial bastion
what are your thoughts on this fortification? Av 14 for only 25 points more than a defense line. Battlements on top so you can deploy a unit inside protected by the building and a unit on top getting a cover save (i assume 4+?). It looks from the picture like two fire points on each side, so four models can shoot and another could man the heavy bolter. I would use it for the vindicare and the shooty henchman with range. The vindicare could get a 3+ cover on the battlements. The super squishy henchmen would have av 14 protection for way less than a land raider. The quad gun obviously provides some anti-flyer. What do you think brothers? Has anyone used one or seen one used to any degree of success?

Re: Imperial bastion
I use an Aegis Defense with a Quad fine and I found that to be pretty good. The thing with fortifications is that they have their own rules for shooting, assaulting, and damage chart. I think I watched a video on MiniWargaming about fortifications. I think if the bastion gets assaulted its more than likely everyone inside is going to die. The Vindicare has the infiltrate rule so placing him in ruins will give him a 3+ cover save regardless (4+ and then 1+ to stealth). The Aegis Defense Line is versatile because your vehicles sitting behind it also gets a 4+ cover save! The bastion will block line of site I guess? But I haven't tested it out so I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Imperial bastion
I shall give you this tactical advice.
You can buy fortifications now? Man i have no clue of this game anymore
But on the topic of looks i can give you a few hands.
That thing will look strange on its own. It will also look off on many gaming boards. Since it is so large and imposing it is impossible to miss. Which makes it centerpiece of your army.
I would convert it to be built into a mountain wall, or have trenches around it. But i would primarily only use it for scenery on a custom board.
If built with walls, trenches and a couple of these, a really cool board could be made with little effort. Even a few terrain pieces which connect to these would make an effective board, sacrificing looks for the ability to differentiate the board.
You would also need to give it a kickass paintjob. Since it will not be missed.

Re: Imperial bastion
Thanks for the responses. As far as getting assaulted, yes it's true they will all likely die. Especially if they are assaulted by a unit with grenades. However the unit I will have in there would be henchmen who are going to die if they get assaulted anyway. I was thinking of something like three plasma servitors and a jokaero with a crusader to man the heavy bolter and to take the saves from glances. I think it would offer greater protection than sticking them in ruins as they would have to glance AV 14 to even inflict a wound. Of course if/when they do penetrate it and it collapses everyone inside is screwed. A vindicare on top manning a lascannon gives him range of the entire board, and with his ballistic skill it's unlikely to miss. When things are in range of his sniper rifle he can fire that instead. It is a lot of points to invest for a heavy bolter and quad/lascannon and there are other options to protect these vulnerable units.
Great idea building one into a mountain wall, I think that would look really good.

Re: Imperial bastion
I started building a 'drop-bastion' inspired by the planet-strike rules using a bastion, a drop pod and some craters. Grey Knights aren't likely to build defences but I figure a disposable stronghold dropped into a key position would make sense, and the burnt ground of the crater fits most tables.

Re: Imperial bastion
I for one like the idea of the bastion
Cortaez, servitors, jokaero inside
Inq, servitors manning the gun on the roof. Vindicare or unit with an orbital strike relay and prescience would also feel at home.
or even a dread up there to give it cover and protect it from charges
As for being assaulted - It is more durable than a Chimera and offers better protection and elevation than the Aegis.
Besides, I might be tempted to hide a Dreadknight behind it before it PT`s away - that might discourage assaults

The key word here is 'started'...
I've got 2500 points of Grey Knights to paint by the end of April and I've only built 1500 points of it so far. It will get done. One day.

Sadly it's the legs that are sticking out. And the ancient heroes day got even more frustrating.

Well, turns out we sorted that part out.
The complicated part came afterwards.
So after it sticking out of the earth with only its legs saying, and i quote. -"Alas, 'tis the emperor's will."
What happens next?

I could be an asshole and accuse you off being off topic
But i'm not an asshole, and we all know i'm the biggest off topic offender on the site.
I could have a correctional post to myself but it looks so sad when you have a discussion with yourself.
Does not!
It does.....
So all in all.
The imperial bastion is a good modelling project, but probably not worth points from your army.
