New Player - Grey Knights 2000pts
Hi
I am a new player to this edition of 40k - I am in the middle of planning a Grey Knights Army to play and build.
I used to play Eldar a long time ago.
Here is the planned list
HQ
Grey Knight Librarian (185)
Nemesis Force Halberd, Psybolt Ammo, Servo Skull
Might of Titan, Quicksilver, The Shrouding, The Summoning
Elites
Grey Knight Paladins (5) (with Psybolt Ammo, 410)
Apothecary with Force Halberd
Paladin with Psycannon and Force Halberd
Paladin with Psycannon
Paladin with Daemonhammer
Paladin
Troops
Grey Knight Strike Squad (5) (with Psybolt Ammo 195)
Justicar with Force Halberd
Psycannon, 2x Force Halberd, Daemonhammer
Rhino
Grey Knight Strike Squad (5) (with Psybolt Ammo 195)
Justicar with Force Halberd
Psycannon, 2x Force Halberd, Daemonhammer
Rhino
Fast Attack
Grey Knight Interceptor Squad (5) (175)
Justicar with Force Halberd
Incinerator, 2x Force Halberd, Daemonhammer
Heavy Support
Grey Knight Purgation Squad (5) (with Psybolt Ammo 285)
Justicar with Force Sword
4x Psycannon
Razorback with Psybolt Ammo and TL Assault Cannons
Grey Knight Purgation Squad (5) (with Psybolt Ammo 285)
Justicar with Force Sword
4x Psycannon
Razorback with Psybolt Ammo and TL Assault Cannons
Land Raider Crusader (270)
With Multi-Melta and Psybolt Ammo
2000 pts
If you could give me some advice on how you think this will play. The aim of the list is to be Friendly, but competitive.
I was considering whether to replace the Purgation Squads with Dreadnoughts with 2x TL Autocannons with Psybolt Ammo
or maybe some Dreadknights that can teleport.
What would you suggest?
Any assistance welcomed.
Thanks in Advance
Flaxis

The general idea behind the list is fairly solid, but you have a lot of wasted points that could be used better elsewhere. Get rid of psybolt ammo from pretty much every infantry squad, none of them are making any use of it (paladins only have two guys using it, purgation squads only have one) Switch out the purgation squads for psyfleman dreadnoughts. This will give you a nice chunk of points to use, I'd consider beefing out one of the other squads, most likely the interceptors, and sticking another couple of pallies in the Crusader.

aye i'd get rid of the purgation squads as well, they're fire support only and would need to get within 24" to be able to do anything, which leaves them very vulnerable...
TL autocannon dreads with psybolt win! you can have 4 of those dreads for the points you've invested in purgation squads ^^
getting rid of the purgation squads would leave you real low on bodycount though, which might be a problem... so i'd probably get 2 dreads and then some terminators probably
About the paladins; a 5 man squad with a librarian in a rhino does not need an apothecary --> more free points!

I did not think you could put terminators or paladins in rhinos? I thought it was just Land Raiders.... did I get that wrong?
Thank you for your advise so far, I will rework the list some taking your comments on board. Any further advise is welcomed.
I am a little concerned that there are not many scoring squads (troops?) also, I would perfer to stay away from SC's so maybe a grandmaster instead of the the Lib?
As an additonal note I wanted the list to be interchangable for 1750 and 2000.
Thanks,
Flaxis

sorry i meant a Landraider terminator armor can not get into a rhino
with the points you've opened up you can get more scoring units in, like normal terminators

welcome on board brother.
in 2000 points i think you need a GM (for the special habilities he has, for the punch and for the look ) and as you use pallies ... you maybe need Draigo.
to get the points ... you can get rid of the Purgation squads not so useful and the apothecary. you'll need more GKs in your squads too !! 5 is just not enough when comes cross fires. 7-8 is a minimum imho.
and you'll have to know HOW you want to play ... agressively, defensively... cause purgation is defense but pallies and GKIS are offensive...

Hi Flaxis,
Welcome, couple of suggestions.
The psybolt on both Purgastion squads are wasted, it basically 20 pts to upgrade the the SB on the Justicar (Psy-cannons don't benefit from it).
Not sure what the servo skull is for, you don't have any blast weapons and I assume the Paladins are going to ride in the Land Raider Crusader? If you do want to deep strike the Paladins, I'd take 3 servo skulls. This way it keeps your opponent guessing about where they will land.
I like the load out on the librarian. I think if he makes it into command he will do well.
I'd re-equip the Interceptors with 5 nemsis Halberds and use them to pick off any isolated enemy units or attack enemy heavy units hiding at the back of the board.
Dreadknight combined with the interceptor squad would make a nice combo that can get up in the enemies face on turn one.
regards
Arcass

Take Sanctuary on your Librarian if you use him. Why wouldn't you want that power?
I wouldn't bother with Psybolts or the Apothecary on your Paladins. Not taking them actually saves you enough points to replace both your Purgation squads with full strength Purifier squads with 4xPsycannon in Rhinos.
There seems to be a lot of halberd love in this list. Maybe if you take purifiers you can give them the halberds as well and save on halberds on your infantry.
---
I am using all the input to review my list and will post it shortly.
Thank you all for your assistance.

Re: New Player - Grey Knights 2000pts
New list
Total: 1999
HQ
Grey Knight Grand Master (175)
Heavy Support
Land Raider Crusader (260)
with Psybolt Ammunition
Dreadnought (135)
with Psybolt Ammunition and 2x Twin-Linked Autocannon
Nemesis Dreadknight (215)
with Personal Teleporter and Nemesis Daemonhammer
Fast Attack
Grey Knight Interceptor Squad (5) (170)
Justicar with Nemesis Force Halberd
with Incinerator, 3x Nemesis Force Halberd
Elites
Venerable Dreadnought (195)
with Psybolt Ammunition and 2x Twin-Linked Autocannon
Paladin Squad (5) (315)
Paladin with Psycannon
Paladin with Psycannon and Nemesis Force Halberd
Paladin with Nemesis Force Halberd
Paladin with Daemonhammer
Paladin
Purifier Squad (5) (234)
Knight of the Flame, with Nemesis Force Halberd
with 2 Psycannons, 2 Force Halberd, 1 Daemonhammer
Razorback (Psybolt Ammunition, Twin-Linked Assault Cannon)
Troops
Grey Knight Strike Squad (5) (150)
with Psycannon
Rhino
Grey Knight Strike Squad (5) (150)
with Psycannon
Rhino
The plan is to move across the board and take the fight to the enemy with the strike squads able to dig in to claim objectives etc.
The switch to GM allows me increase the number of troops for those style of games or boost the other squads
I still like the idea of the librarian - who I think I would add in again at 3000 pts
I am unsure if the Dreadknight is a good choice but it will move across board with the interceptors and create a hammer, which will then be backed up by the paladins in their LRC
Any comments are welcomed,
Thanks in Advance

Re: New Player - Grey Knights 2000pts
the dreadknight is great for surprising your opponent when equiped with the teleporter, though i would really slap a gun on him! i just love the heavy inc which can wreak havoc on squads... but you're looking at a very expensive model, that can be taken down without a really big problem... which is why i'm not really using mine anymore but it's personal preference whether or not you want to take one
wat really improves the GM is if you can give him rad and/or psychotroke grenades but then you would have to save some points elsewhere
