40K League: 1500 vs Chaos Daemons
Played my first mission at our local 40K league and I faced off against our arch-nemesis, chaos daemons!
Primary mission was annihilation w/ pitched battle deployment (15 battle points). Secondary mission is to keep your HQ alive by game end (5 battle points). Tertiary mission is to eliminate all your opponent's FA, EL and HS choices (5 battle points).
Chaos Daemons
HQ - Herald of Tzeentch on chariot (had bolt of tzeentch)
EL - 2 x Flamers of Tzeentch (3 each)
TR - 4 x Pink Horrors (9 each; one model had bolt for each squad)
FA - 1 x seekers (12 models)
FA - 1 x screamers of tzeentch (3 models)
HS - 2 x DP
Total models: 60 models
Grey Knights
HQ - GM w/ m-c nfw, p-cannon, si, grimoire, ph & HH + 4 GKT's (1 cinnie)
TR - 8 x PAGK (2 p-cannons)
TR - 8 x PAGK (2 cinnies)
HS - LR w/ ea & sl
HS - LR w/ ea & sl
Total models: 21 models + 2 tanks
While I was eagerly anticipating the match up, I also realize that he can actually pour more shots than I can. The pink horrors can unleash warpfire (A3, S4 AP4) while 1 model has a S8 AP1 bolt. It all depends on where they show up on the board.
I made sure my forces were consolidated and braced for their arrival...
And they started arriving...
Most of his daemons appeared some distance away intending to shoot but his flamers came in right in front of my PAGK squad intending to unleash their deadly templates (no armor or cover saves )
He took down 3 knights but my other squad jumped out and incinerated the flamers back to the warp. GK leads 1-0.
The rest of his forces started arriving and he kept most of them hidden in cover. Meanwhile I was getting bogged down in a shooting match w/ his horrors. He was definitely unleashing more shot than I was so this would just not do. I haven't lost a unit at this time but 1 GKT did go down and my GM suffered 1 wound. So the GM gave the order to embark in the LR's and bring the fight to the daemons!
As you can see, the daemons were all waiting on the other side. I could have stayed back and hunkered down since I was ahead 1-0 KP but what's the fun in that?!? Besides, I wanted to destroy the daemons up close
So I came around the corner and my HQ squad disembarked. By this time, combined shooting from my squads had taken down a unit of horrors so I was up 2-0 KP. The DP (knowing it was going to be spanked) went up the building to stay away from my HQ. I didn't make it into assault so I knew the next round was going to be tough.
True enough my HQ squad was assaulted by the seekers as well as the DP. The screamers assaulted the LR (they're like living melta bombs) but they all needed 6's and all missed. The DP and seekers both had the aura of something so they had the equivalent of assault grenades and their normal initiative of 6 is down to a 5. So they strike simultaneous with my GM. The seekers unleashed 48 attacks (rending) and combined w/ the DP's attacks, took down all my GM's bodyguards as well as put another wound on the GM. My GM in turn killed 3 seekers (he was in base contact w/ the seekers and not the DP so he couldn't attack the DP --good move on my opponent's part). So after combat, the GM had to make another armor save and made it. Things were looking very grim indeed. With his bodyguards dead around him, the GM was surrounded by the DP and 12 seekers! And this is what happened next...
YES!!! The GM sent the DP back to the warp and had to weather 41 attacks!!!! Due to the grimoire, majority missed but he had to take 7 invuls and 5 armor saves...and MADE THEM ALL! My opponent couldn't believe it Heck, I couldn't believe it. This is probably the most memorable assault I've had ever with my GM. This was also the final nail on the coffin for the game. Even though my GM fell in the next assault phase, he successfully stopped the daemons from rampaging to my other squads. My other PAGK squad burned the screamers back into the warp and I won the game 4-0 KP.
Another funny note was he unleashed bolt after bolt after bolt at my LR's and squads and managed to miss all but 2 on the LR, which failed to do anything at all. The Emperor was truly watching his favorite sons
I had 15 battle points for the game. His cowardly herald just stayed way, way back so I couldn't get the 5 points for him This game is definitely one for the books

Trying to edit via my iPhone but somehow couldn't so I'm just doing a follow-up post:
Final tally was 4-2 KP, not 4-0. Also, after my GM's retinue fell, he was surrounded by the DP and 9 seekers (not 12).

Well done, Sir! Most impressive on those saves considering you didn't take Icon of the Just. I've been paying the extra points for it lately and my GM hasn't made a frickin' 4+ save yet.

What?!? My bad, I did have an Icon of the Just...forgot to list it up there
The 7 rolls were 2 4's, 3 5's and 2 6's. Was I so thankful I did pay the 25 pts for it After I made the 7 invuls, I was sure I was going to roll 1's for my armor saves but I miraculously still made it

Ah, that makes more sense. Still though, even at 4+ that was really impressive.

Re: 40K League: 1500 vs Chaos Daemons
this might sound heretical but... the old seeker models and daemonettes look way better than the new ones. There, it's out.
Besides that, your grandmaster did what he was supposed to do, spank some daemon butt. Great battle!

Awesome battle and batrep!!
I tried to get my GF some of the older Slaanesh models, cause they really are leaps and bounds better than the new ones, but they are hard to come by!
