1850 pt vs Orks

While visiting at the LA Battle Bunker, I was able to pick up a game vs orks (1850). I don't know the exact unit names but his list is more or less like this...
1850 Ork list
1 warboss w/ a huge power klaw attached to a unit of orks w/ a nob (also w/ a power klaw); mounted on an ork trukk
Another HQ w/ a zapp gun (?) (it fires up to 60", AP2 and 2d6 STR, plus it has special effects rolled on 2d6); attached to 6 lootas.
3 units of orks, each around 27-29 models strong (2 units had 2 big shootas each while 1 unit had 2 rokkit launchas)
1 unit of 15 ork lootas w/ big guns (48" range, STR 7 AP 4)
1 unit of 15 kommando orks w/ a special upgrade character (Snikrot?) (he can ambush by coming in from any table edge --owner's choice)
1 unit of 15 stormboyz w/ a special upgrade character also (the guy can assault on the turn he deepstrikes and on the charge, he attacks w/ 2 power klaws that strike at initiative)

1850 GK lists (I just modified my 1750 "all-comers" list by adding 1 GKT and 2 PAGK)
HQ - GM w/ mc-nfw, p-cannon, si, ph, hammerhand + 4 GKTs (1 p-cannon)
EL - BC + 4 GKTs (1 'cinnie)
TR - 7 x PAGKs (targeter)
TR - 7 x PAGKs (1 'cinnie)
TR - 7 x PAGKs (1 'cinnie)
HS - LR w/ ea, db, sl
HS - LR w/ ea, db, sl

Mission was annihilation and deployment was dawn of war. I won the roll-off and elected to go first but I didn't deploy anything. My opponent deployed a ork mob in the center right at the 24" line and his warboss' trukk.

On my 1st turn, my forces came in as shown below (GKTs embarked in the painted LR and 1 PAGK squad embarked in the other). I immediately started concentrating fire on the ork mob while 1 LR shot and stunned the trukk.

The rest of his forces (except for 2 units in reserve) came in as shown. There's an ork mob right in front of the orks w/ big guns. The other ork mob is behind the building in the middle and the other HQ w/ the weird gun is on the other side of the building (not visible in the picture)


Without going into too much details, the game pretty much went on w/ me staying back and shooting him up (1 unit at a time). My shrouding was able to help me around half the time for the whole game. Some highlights of the game that helped determine the outcome were:
- his HQ w/ the big gun targeted my GM and retinue, actually passed shrouding, actually hit! But then he rolled double 1's on the special effects which meant he vaporized himself along with 3 of his squad. This gave me 1 KP right away and I was able to use psycannons and kill off the remaining 3 models of that squad for another KP
- his kommando orks ambushed one of my squads on turn 2 (see below). My squad would've been massacred but good rolling saw 2 PAGKs survive and I actually won combat. He made the LD roll though but on my turn my nearby squad jumped in and massacred his whole unit.

- I managed to destroy his trukk but the warboss and his mob were able to charge my LR, hoping to destroy it w/ 6 STR 10 attacks from the warboss and 4 STR 9 attacks from the nob. After the dust settled...nothing, not even a glancing hit Of course on my turn, LR backed up, GKT unit came in and eventually took down the warboss and the ork mob he was attached to.
- his other deepstriking unit came in (see below) and assaulted on the turn they came in. Again, it was an epic fail for his orks because the PAGK they assaulted survived long enough for my GM and retinue to come in and annihilate the stormboyz mob.


Final score was: GKs 7, Orks 2. Solid victory for the Grey Knights!
The mission and deployment definitely favored me as it made it hard for my opponent to coordinate his mobs because they had to footslog up the board, giving me ample time to concentrate on 1 unit at a time. I just made sure my units were close to each other in anticipation of his reserves coming in behind my lines. My opponent also had some horrendous dice rolling woes that could have possibly made the game closer if he rolled better

Yup. One of them has spaced armor and the other one has reinforced armor. I think it makes them look beefy and mean

I use almost the exact same list as my 1700-2000 sort of format. You deployed and maneuvered your squads perfectly; that Ork list could have been serious trouble on so many different levels but you not only weathered the storm but crushed it in your palms!

I love the image of that bloody Ork vaporizing himself; I imagine your Grandmaster used his psychic will force to manipulate the weapon itself, the Ork having less then a moment to scream in anguish before he was no more

As usual, the pictures are AWESOME reference. What camera do you use? Its very good quality. I look forward to more Battle Reports from you Rivan!

I use a Canon G10. It's a small camera that really packs a powerful punch! Kinda like our GK armies

even with the lack of luck of your opponent, i'm glad that your "so-called outdated army" won against one of the most powerful army of the actual 40K universe.

@Nemesisforce: Yup, lots of tables with all kinds of terrain to choose from. If my schedule holds, I might be able to make one more trip there tomorrow

just create it brother !!
form an association
go and see your mayor for help ( a place to squat, money, materials anything is possible) : often in small town there's more rooms than associations. the place must have tables, electricity, chairs, and maybe a corner to make some hot drinks.
Try to find sponsors (gaming shops, and others)
don't forget insurance (especially if the place is open by night)
and then enjoy
