My combat patrol list Empty My combat patrol list

Lately I've taken to taking the following list to combat patrol, since there are several new players in the area. we include them in big games, but mixing in CP's makes for quick games and rules learning with only a few types of units on the board.

Justicar
2x Grey Knights
2x Grey Knights + Psycannons

Justicar
6x Grey knights

It's a decent list to play against noobies and veterans alike, as the psycannons can sit on one objective in cover and fire away at vehicles and exposed troops, and the 7 man squad can charge charge charge. with two troop choices it's easy to at least tie if not win Kill points and tie or win the 2 objective game.

However, if armor 12 is facing your psycannons and you can't get into assualt, you might glance a bit but the list breaks down a bit. I'd love to stick pure grey knights but short of throwing a psycannon in the other squad i don't see a better way to deal with armor 12 facing you. does anyone try an inquisitor in transport with high strength weapons, and how does that work out?

would you get an invuln on the justicar so plasma and power weaponss dont hurt so much?

what do you run? is it fun? whats the sucess rate? (mines about 60/20/20 W/L/D) what do you like/not like or think is effective/not effective?

As a reminder, combat patrol is min 1 troop choice, optional HQ, max total armor 33, no 2+ save no 3 wound models, 400 points.

Never really played CP before...what does "max total armor 33" actually mean?

If I were to play CP, I'd probably do something like this:

6 x IST from WH codex, 1 melta, 1 flamer; rhino transport w/ EA

WH Inquisitor w/ PA, PW, inferno pistol & melta bombs

Justicar
3 x PAGK
1 x PAGK w/ psycannon
1 x PAGK w/ 'cinnie

Depending on the mission and lay out, either IST's or GKs can use the rhino after deployment. Inquisitor can be attached to either squad depending on the need.

Hmmm would be interesting to play. Your still not toooo bad against AV12, but obviously its not ideal....
I don't like IST though, and I play puritan, depending on your choice in this area you have varying choices.

You could take a dread but it might seem a bit cheap

A dread can't be taken, thats what the max total armor 33 means

when you add up all three sides, it must be 33 or less.

Dreads are 12 12 10, so their total armor is 34.

basically it means the toughest armor you'll see is something like a devilfish at 12/11/10, since i don't think there are any 13/10/10s out there.

So that's what 33 means. Well, a rhino is perfect then. I still stand by the list I put out. Although it's not an all GK list, it does give you a lot of flexibility and some mobility. If you really planned on an all GK list, then the list you initially put out is pretty good Very Happy

DO NOT TAKE PAGKS IN combat patrol. you get melta weapons and krak missiles and grey knights strewn across the board. maybe one allied squad of 5 deepstriking but pure gk is just not workable. there are just too little of them. they willwreak havoc in cc so maybe if u deep strike the 5 it could work. i run a capter master, sternguard (2 lascannons, one combi melta and plasma in lascannon razorback and some tactical squads. my league allows dreadnoughts.

Doesn't a chapter master have 3 wounds? I thought you can't take 3 wound models? scratch

Since they allow dreadnoughts they play their own special version of combat patrol. perhaps this version allows 3 wound models as well. Warhammer can be any game you want, as long as you and your opponent agree. I might call it a different name, thought, or just a 400 point game, so people don't get confused with the standard combat patrol rules.

Allowing a dreadnought drastically changes the game, as would more then three wound models or other changes, so please take all criticism between the different versions with a grain of salt.

We play a modified combat patrol. its no more than 3 wounds and dreads are accepted. mostly because we never checked on either and we play 500 pts. but you make a valid point, a dread does change the games drastically. 3 wounds does not change it as much as having the master w/ an orbital bombardment, from what i have played. my club just started doing combat patrol so we are pretty new to this.
