dont know. while MSU is good playstyle it can also become quiet devastating for yourself if you happen to play annihilation.

if a razorback gets destroyed you get 3 S4 hits. odds are good that those 3 henchmen will die during the explosion granting the enemy 2 killpoints and that hurts.

however you got so much different units on the table that target priority wont really fall on your henchmen. i think coteaz + grandmaster run with the DCA + crusaders in the stormraven? this list might work but be sure to use your smokelaunchers good against enemys like Dark eldar and space marine types.

I totally agree with you on the kill point issue. The army gives out twenty one kill points, which is quite a lot. Also, when one of the razorbacks explode, one of the warrior acolytes should live. They come with flak armour.

You are correct. Coteaz and the grand master ride in the stormraven with the death cults and crusaders. I think that the threat diversity will make target priority difficult for my opponents. I think that this will help. I appreciate your input, and keep it coming.

Hi,

I like what you're trying to do but I think that if you're going to be aggressive with DCA you need to run 2 strom ravens with a Libby for shrouding to get that 3+ cover save.
Not sure the extra armour is worth it on the Storm raven as it has fortitude.
Also you're acolyte warbands are off by 1pt, they come to 63pts with searchlights.

Skulls just to stop your opponent infiltrating?
SR's aren't a good choice to DS....

I agree with shadow however, you need another SR.
The GM doesn't really fit the list so convert him into one, and one of the warbands into a larger DCA squad.
If you have the points a rad gren Inq is the cheapest option to accompany DCA.

You could, ideally you want to be able to cast 2 Powers in your turn and 2 in your opponents, at the moment you technically have 2 in your turn =MoT and Hammerhand and 1 in his turn = Shrouding. Or just give him 2 extra powers to give you options like Warp Rift. Or drop 1 searchlight and boost the Acolytes up to 4 per Razorback.

Well, hammerhand can be cast in both players turns. I am thinking about taking Sanctuary and Warp Rift as well. That way I have a Sanctuary in both DCA squads, as Coteaz has one and the Librarian will have one. I am still considering taking the blind grenades on the techmarines. If you are going to put a libby in a storm raven Warp Rift will be tour best friend. Against a mechnline you can auto pen several vehicles with one template or wipe several low init models off the table.

You have that list nailed in my opinion to beast deathstar swarms, lots of scoring and utility plus dual cover save improvements from the TM's. You can blast 24" with the ravens and sit in a shrouding 3+ bubble for a turn as well.

I think its a mean list with solid aspects in all phases of gameplay.

Get some tests in and let me know how it runs.

You don't have the grenades but you can always give the DCA +1S to wound on 3s against marines or cast Hammerhand & MoT for +2S and then wounding on 2s.

I like that list, with the exception that there are no grenades. In my opinion the death cults need the grenades to be effective. I intend to use them against things that they will need the grenades for. Such as thunderwolves and bloodcrushers.

I think that I am at the point, where the only way that I am going to figure out which list I like more, is to play them. I will begin playtesting once I have the models.

I dropped the stormraven in favor of the land raider, because the land raider is much less susceptible to being destroyed first turn, if I don't go first. After play-testing the the list with the grand master, I decided that an ordo xenos inquisitor would do me just as much good, for less than half of the price. The grand masters grand strategy was not doing me any good. Also, since I was getting rid of the grand master and thus grand strategy, I decided that the purifier squads could be dropped in favor of venerable dreadnoughts. I wanted to keep the number of dreads to at least three, and four seemed better. I have twenty one more points to spend, and am unsure of what to do with them. I could get one more warrior acolyte per unit. That is the only thing that I could think of. Let me know what you guys think. Also, if there is anything that I can do to improve the list; let me know. Thanks.

though quite effective RZ spam list seems a little boring to me, but if you want increase the survivability of your razorbacks then try to find the points to give them smoke ... good chance to survive 1 turn more.
furthermore, i guess you don't count on the composition score to win this tournament, neh ?! Wink Razz

I aggree with you on the potential for being boring part. I dont find the list to be boring, though.

The razorbacks, dreadnoughts, and land raider all come with smoke launchers.

When it comes to GTs, I dont beleive that most of them use a comp score.

Let me know if there is anything else that I can do to improve the list.

I am left with 53 points. I am considering giving the storm raven psybolt ammunition, although it is quite expensive, and I want to make the most out of the extra points. I really like the list alot, and have played a few games with it. It is extremely brutal in shooting. Also, with the death cult unit and characters, the army has a very nasty close combat element. Coteaz, the techmarine, and the librarian all go with the death cult assassins in the stormraven. That unit can kill pretty much any other unit in combat, including a full unit of paladins. I think that the unit is necessary because the rest of the army cant deal with the deathstar units. Thanks for all of your input, and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Have you thought about upgrading one of the Acolytes in each squad to be a pysker? They will have 36" range and be able to put out some damage for very few extra points.

The problem with this list is that your opponent will concentrate on the Stormraven.

What about a Brotherhood champion?

You may want some skulls just incase you need to reserve your stormraven.

Thanks for the input. I dont really care for the psykers. I have heard bad things about them, and they dont add much to the list. They have to take a psychic test on Ld:8, and only put out a strength 3 blast.

You are one hundred percent correct. My oponents will likely concentrate fire on the stormraven. The librarian plus cover helps this a lot. If I am going second then I can always choose to not start it on the board. If I am going first then I can start it on and fly it up the board on my first turn.

I dont have the HQ choice available.

I have included skulls in my lists before. I was almost always told that I should drop them. They dont do that much for this army, as I have not templates and have no deepstriking.

I am considering adding a single meltagun to each of the warrior acolyte squads. They are only BS:3 so they are not reliable, but they can be helpful. Let me know what you guys think.

I played in a 2000 point tournament recently. This is the list that I took:

My first match was against another Grey Knights player. He was playing a list similar to mine, but with no stormraven, no death star and he took three strike squads. The mission was capture and control with spearhead deployment. He ended up wining the roll to get first turn, so I reserved my army. I knew that if he got the first turn of shooting, that he would destroy the majority of my army. In the first two turns, he moved four razorbacks toward my objective and left the dreads and two razorbacks on his objective. All of my dreads and three razorbacks come in on my second turn. I moved the razorbacks toward my objective behind cover so they cant be seen. I have a good turn of shooting, killing two of his dreads and ripping the arm off of one of his venerables. His turn was not as fortuitous. He killed one of my dreads and his vindicare could not see anything. My third turn saw the rest of my army on the board, except the vindicare assassin. The stormraven flew 24" towards his objective, and the rest of the razorbacks drove up to mine. On his turn, he shoots down the stormraven with his vindicare assassin, after I fail my first 3+ save of the day. The librarian and Coteaz both take a wound and two of the girls die. H then fires two razorbacks at the unit and kills coteaz and four more girls. His vindicare assaults the unit and kills the girls before they get to swing. The librarian does nothing, as I forgot to cast hammerhand. I forgot to try and bring the vindicare in, and the razorbacks fight over my objective. His is untouched by me. The librarian ends up falling to an explosion. of a dreadnought. He contests my objective up until turn 7, where I am finally able to pull him off of my objective, and claim a draw. I forgot my vindicare again and he came in on the 7th turn. He tryed to shoot his pistol to kill a strike squad guy, and misses. The strike squad fails their leadership test and run before he can charge them. 0-0-1

My second game is not nearly as interesting. The mission was killpoints with pitched battle deployment. I am paired against an Imperial Guard player, who is taking six leman russes. My army has almost nothing to deal with them. So I am relying on the stormraven to take the death star over to his side of the board so I can charge his tanks. I won the roll to go first. He reserved his army. His entire army came on turn two with the exception of one veteran squad. His first turn of shooting went very well. I failed the second 3+ cover save of the game, and my stormraven blew up. He killed my vindicare, and one of my dreads. I did very little in return. He then proceeded to come close to tabling me. We did not even count the kill points for this game. 0-1-1

My third game ended up going the complete opposite direction of the second game. It was multiple objectives, and the deployment was dawn of war. My opponent was playing an on foot necron list. I tabled him on turn 4. The only points I gave away was half for my librarian, who failed perils. 1-1-1

All of my opponents were great guys and I had a blast. Because of the weird way that the scoring was done, I ended up coming in second.

I learned that Imperial Guard can be a very rough match up for this army. The AV12 and AV14 can be difficult for the razorbacks and dreads to handle. Also, the stormraven is too fragile to have all of those points wrapped up in. I know that it only preformed poorly because of my poor cover save rolling, but that can happen. After reflecting on this for a while I came up with a new list:
