Anyone else notice this?
It seems like since the new codex came out, we have WAY more threads that are lists then are discussions. I don't mind list threads per say, but most i don't bother reading, and one of the things i liked about the community was we were more focused on ideas and gameplay then the lists, as small tweaks to a list make very little difference, but a new understanding or idea makes you much much better.

I'm still new here, but I agree.
To my mind, at the end of the day, all lists are equal (points wise), and it is the tactics and ideas used that make them better or worse.
I'm also of the view that while tried and true tactics work, they usually have an effective counter. New ideas and tactics keep the enemy off guard and on the back foot.

Me myself is mostly in the painting section, and attack fluff threads when they pop up looking for abnormalities.
Agreed on the lists, only skim through them looking for flaming and moderator stuff.
You know, doing my job sorta
To be honest my job here is very simple.
It rules to have a community full of gentlemen, even though most of us have suken down into counting points from a new book on papers

Re: Anyone else notice this?
I personally enjoy making lists, tweaking them, and getting the opinions of others. I also enjoy doing the same for other people looking for advice. That being said, I also like discussing tactics, painting, modeling, etc.
Maybe I just like everything that has to do with this hobby and the Grey Knights...
I do agree that we should spend more time discussing tactics though.

Same here. I derive a lot of insights from discussing list potentials and often times, someone's opinion or suggestion completely gives me a whole new angle on a particular unit or combination.
That said, I do agree more discussions on tactics and how they work is definitely good

I think that part of it as well is how many different types of lists we can now create. Even just pure GK ones. In old dex lists I think my only major concern for a change was wether to swap a 'cinnie for a psycannon in a given unit. Now, with so many options, there's way more room for experimentation which invariably leads to more list postings.

Re: Anyone else notice this?
I think this happens because we have a new dex. People are experimenting and this translates itself into list making. Which in turn translates itself into experiences and finally into tactica. So this is just following the normal flow of things. But, yes we definitely need more tactica discussion and ideas.

i have to agree. i guess however that those increased point list topics get created due to more members. newer players want some insight in good lists and try to optimze. as soon as they get some more experience, it will run just as brother donfer said.

also, newer players place greater emphasis on lists. a newer player will agonize for days over the last 50 points in his list. an experienced play will know what he wants there, or realize even it it isn't perfect, it's so close that it's not worth that time. In general newbies spend more time making more lists, and experienced generals seem to make lists when they need them and only rarely otherwise, to try out more ideas. their in between game time is usually spent discussing batreps, units, combos, tactics, etc.

This could mean that you, my dear Brother, have made a list every 2 years! which makes you one of the most experienced player out there!

Re: Anyone else notice this?
I made a lot of lists when I first started (only a couple months ago), and I still tweak what I have every now and then. It may be a "noobie" thing to do, but that doesn't make it unnecessary. Making lists forces you to think about why certain units work well with other units, the importance of redundancy, etc. Experienced players don't need to do this because they have already gone through that particular learning process.
You really don't think about tactics until you have a reason to, and that reason is often "how would this work in my army?". You can't ask yourself that question if you don't have an army list.

Note that i have a very few games though.
Probably less than 100, perhaps even under 50!
So calling me the most experienced out there is a bit of an overstatement
Call me when you need conversion advice instead Or fluff questions.

I have generated many list in different points sections(500's,750's, 1000's,etc.). There are balanced lists for every mission type but there seems to be no perfect solid list for every scenario. What's a strong army against hordes amy not be good against mechanized armies and vice versa. Threads keep the creative mind juices flowing, but it would be equally beneficial to impart or share some of the experiences and knowledge among the brotherhood.

Re: Anyone else notice this?
That's one of the things I like about this game, how to adapt to new challenges. Do you change the list or has it already got the answer?
I must admit, I should try and make it to a tourament, where you have a set list amd must make it work against all comers. That is a good challenge.
But at the same time I want to tell a story, and enjoy the movie moments on the battlefield.
