The end of metal ??
there a rumours sliding in some forums (warseer included, from Harry) that GW will soon mold their heroes and HQ in resine instead of metal, making metal totally desapearing from GW.
2 facts could re-inforce this rumour :
1/ there's no possibility for the retail and the associated sellers of GW product to command metal references since a month and a half ago (in France anyway).
2/ the big boss of GW, Mr West (not Herbert, nor James ) forbid all his staff to go on vacation on May, because he has an "important annoncement to do"
What do you think guys ??
imho this is true ! (and a shame, even if i like resine too)

I like resin too, but it will be a shame.
I've been disappointed with the decline of metal, I remember when I worked for GW and our shop has 30ft walls filled floor to ceiling with blisters.
Even as a child one of my favorite things was to work my way through the blisters to find models.
will be the end of an era when it does happen, but times and technology march on!!!

To control any Riot, GW would need Arbites, whitch are made of metal! lol
Very sad to loose metal, but if the production process is cheaper, be sure they won't hesitate!

Its just sad the fact its cheaper doesn't get passed back to us!
GWS Products here in Australia are seriously overpriced already, and they aren't cutting us any slack, its a total joke. I think a squad of 5 PAGK are $55, while GKT are $74.
I can get them delivered to my door for half that from the UK!

Re: The end of metal ??
I dunno if they will make the move to resin or not... I guess we'll have to see. There is a whole of speculation out there, as there always is...
I like resin in general, so if they do go for it, cool. The only problems I have with resin is the small/thin stuff... swords, antenna, etc... they always seem to break off.
If we lived in a perfect world where money didn't matter, I'd be sure to agree with that one. Unfortunately, they have to make money in order for them to keep making the game. <sigh>
I can't say I know the conversion rates, or how the rest of the economy is working down there... but one thing I have noticed, being right across the border from Canada in the US, is there is still a lot of Canadians coming over to buy stuff because prices there didn't adjust with the drop of the US dollar. Before the economic crash, it was around $1.50 Canadian to $1 US... right now, the dollars are, for the most part on par. I work in an electronics store and have people coming in all the time complaining that the same thing in the US is a lot more expensive in Canada. One person was buying a $350 vaccum cleaner that was nearly $700 in Canada (plus 16% tax in Canada vs. 9% here). It just seems to me that the different countries aren't making the adjustment... which may be the case with Australia and other nations as well... at least with companies that are based outside of the nation they are selling in.

Re: The end of metal ??
Yep thats pretty much happened here.
The pound was worth about 3 AUD a few years ago, and now its barely worth 1.5-1.6 and the price of models etc has probably doubled across the entire GWS range in the last 10 years. (Well it feels like it anyway).
A friend and I did a combined order a while back that was about 800 AUD, and I think the actual store value over here was somewhere in the region of 1550 AUD.
Then the GWS store people say its the taxes and stuff.... total bollux if you ask me since the US gets it almost on par with British prices!

Re: The end of metal ??
I can vouch for the Canadian difference. For a box of GK's here it's $39.50 compared to $33 in the US and our dollar has been on par for quite awhile now. I don't mind paying the bucks for my hobbies but what pisses me off is if the Canadian dollar took a dump right now there would be an immediate price increase to compensate for this. And I mean immediate. Nothing ever changes when it involves prices that should be coming down. Even if plastics are cheaper to make, don't ever expect GW to pass on the savings. It just ain't happening.

Re: The end of metal ??
Looking at the new price list on BoLS the price hike depends very much on the model. Some are going up 5%, some by as much as 30% apparently. But nothing definite is out yet...

Yep... They are going to explain us that minies are better and sharper than they were and so on... blablabla....
In fact GW is just deleting a step of production... They are going to sell us green stuff 28mm 3ups....................
They are overall more expensive!

also the end of maelstrom games being able to supply to anywhere but Europe as GW tighten their grip on who sells , cut your own throat time i think
Re: The end of metal ??
And Wayland Games too.
I won't be buying any more stuff from GW anytime soon. This is indeed something very serious. I too live overseas (south america) and buying online gets us a good discount, even when shipping costs are very high and it takes months for the package to arrive. But I have an alternative.
However I feel personally agravated when GW tries to tell me where and how I can buy their stuff. I honestly have the money to buy their products, but telling me I cannot choose to buy at a discounted price, wherever the H*** I want to spend my money, is something I cannot tolerate from anyone.
This isn't a monopoly, and certainly isn't the only game out there. Perhaps they don't understand one very important thing: Their company lives from our money. They miss behave and we'll have to stop buying their products, we (the customers) are in control, they aren't.

everything of this stuff is making me sick and about to vomit ... i love metal, and always did it's not a secret ...
and i'm a geek too, so i can accept lots of things from GW (price rising every 6 months, total lack of attentions and respect with the veterans of the hobby...), but here ... there's no respect at all !!
in changing the old metal models in resin models, more expensive and without tell anybody... it' so unrespectful !!
i'll still collecting GW minis (cause i'm a collector) but i don't know if i'll buy something new from GW again ...

Metal seemed to make a solid character model for an acceptable price, but in comes a cheaper way to produce, less expensive material and faster turn around in production but for a bit more. All financial gain but of little use to us... I call it in relation to economy and 40k points, the "Castellian Crowe" effect.

I really don't like how GW is handling things. I just started the hobby and if that wasn't expensive already. Now I have to shell out more money to pay for something thats cheaper for them to produce! I'm with brother Aubec on this one I love the old metal models. GW could have at least sold the resin models for the same price as the old metals and could still make a profit. I am not going to be buying any new products from GW anytime soon thats for sure.

Re: The end of metal ??
I agree, I snipe on Ebay for the cheapest price possible. I lost a bid on Mephiston due to forgetting that I was in the running. I would have got him for $11.50 with free shipping compared to $19.99 + tax, both still in the shelf packaging. Almost every person who wants to play 40k hits the first obstacle and that's expensive models. Some people take years to finish their army. GW should focus on a kids perspective(no income but lots of enthusiasm). The only time they can buy a GW model is on their Bday, Christmas/ gift giving holiday or save up from allowance. If young players start out they carry it on to when their older and introduce, pass on or if not play with their kids.

Games workshop is really shooting themselves in the foot.
I split my purchases between a local store and Wayland games (I save literally 50%) to try and be fair on the local shop and to myself (not made of money).
If I can't get my models from Wayland games I'll be complaining to GWS Australia, I'll be contacting the authorities here to see what their perspective is about this kind of uncompetitive action by GWS (and whether GWS is breaking any laws), and I'll probably have a look at Privateer Press to decide whether I'll finish what I have now but eventually move onto their products.
GWS seem to be utterly useless at any kind of marketing and it shows constantly via their pricing and how they do releases.
Do they not realise that if the hobby was actually affordable (here in Aus we pay double the UK/US price after conversion to AUD) they could actually attract new players!?!?!
I have looked at their yearly releases for the last few years and Australia/NZ has always been a market with increasing profits, and we are the countries most being bent over and screwed by GWS, day after day after day.
