40K League 1750 vs Chaos Daemons Empty 40K League 1750 vs Chaos Daemons

Had a really tough game vs a really tough list yesterday. First time for me to see a list like it. It was seize ground w/ 4 objectives and DoW deployment. Special rules for this game were:
All monstrous creatures, battle suits and walkers are scoring units
All monstrous creatures and battle suits gain feel no pain
All walkers are venerable

Chaos Daemons list
Great Unclean One
Bloodthirster of Khorne
Daemon Prince of Khorne (2+ invul save vs. wounds from force weap affraid )
Daemon Prince of Slaanesh
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch
8 Bloodcrushers
10 Daemonettes
3 Screamers
10 Bloodletters
8 Nurglings

I ran the 1750 version of my 2000 pt mechanized list to start practicing with it:

HQ - GM w/ m-c nfw, icon, grimoire, incense & hammerhand
Ret: 4 GKT's (1 'cinnie, 1 TH/SS)
TR - 5 x PAGK (2 p-cannons)
TR - 5 x PAGK (1 'cinnie)
TR - 5 x IST (2 meltas); chimera w/ ml, hb, ea & sl
TR - 5 x IST (2 meltas); rhino w/ ea & sl
HS - LR w/ ea & sl
HS - LR w/ ea & sl

Suffice it to say it didn't go well at all. All his deepstrike rolls pretty much went his way and ALL his forces were on the table by Turn 3 pretty much where he wanted them. His screamers showed on target and pretty much wiped out my only un-embarked p-cannon PAGKs (no cover, no armor saves Sad ) In the end, I was able to take down a couple of the big daemons but just didn't have enough to deal with all of them. The rhino and chimera (and their occupants) didn't survive -- not much of a surprise there Razz The bloodcrushers unit was specially tough considering they had 16 wounds total and all had hellblades and 3+/5+ saves.

I was moving my LR's around a lot but all but 1 of his big daemons can move 12" also. He did have problems taking the LR's out (both were still undamaged by game end) and that's a good bit of info for future games. Only his bloodthirster really had a decent chance but the fact that I kept moving more than 6" made it hard for him to hit.

I still like the mechanized list, especially at 2000 pts where all my units are embarked.
If I were to match up against this list again, I would probably keep my units in the LR's longer and zoom around contesting objectives and try isolate and pick off a unit or two at a time.

it's hard to isolate deamons' units when all the DS went well ... i understand that ! Evil or Very Mad
next time it won't go that way pal ... Wink
after all in the 40K there's nothing but eternal war ! you'll beat him next time ! Wink

I'm sure you remembered to make him roll to assault you, right? In that case, against demons i highly recommend keeping any units that have psycannons or better yet incinerators in vehicles, and only get out when the last model with that breath attack lands so you dont get wiped out, and can return superior firepower!

Demon units are balanced around the fact they all must deep strike and they all must come in peicemeal. If they all deepstrike perfectly, there are special rules that favor the demons, and they get really good reserve rolls, they will be the favorite. More often than not they get average rolls and are the underdog.

The list you faced was also somewhat strong, I mean it could be stronger, but it packed in literally as many monsterous creatures as the army can field in one force org.

Bloodcrushers are, point for point, one of the best units in the game. Multiple battle cannons or alot of plasma are really the only super efficient ways to deal with them.

Good luck against them in the future!

It was those IST's Rivan.... the Emperor only protects the worthy, and that ain't IST's Very Happy

Thats a really low body count however! Would be a hard list to play. I think my 1k points list has that many bodies but less GKT

I don't think a hard Daemon list like that with good deepstrike rolls can be beaten by many armies. How'd your IST go and would you have fared better with your pure GK list?

More GK's firing p-cannons would definitely have done better. I could have actually played a purely anti-demon list but I really wanted to get the feel of running the mechanized list to prepare for my GT in Nov. Next week, the league bumps up to 2K points and I'll be able to run my 2K mounted list Very Happy

For GK I feel that Psy-spam is actually stronger than our mech versus a variety of armies, but, ymmv

lol nice write up on the battle Brother Rivan. I'm glad to hear that your enjoying running the entire army up in transports. But a word of advice- the best thing you can do is try to spread out at the start of the game if your enemy is going to try to assault. Get them to spread out as well- then use your mobility to try to take out one section of their army at a time.

Problem with GK's is you really want to spam LR transports or just nothing.
When you look at alot of armies that literally put 10-15 tanks on the table (even if they are only AV11) they are just swamping you, and GK's can't really compete in a way that will be effective especially if you try and play the mech game without a rock hard core.
Also alot of BA/SW armies will be throwing 15-20 Las/Missile shots at you a turn, which means anything thats not a LR is going to be in for a world of pain.
