My Idea!
Well, I'm here to post my GK comic Idea, this will be a cover page if I were to continue.
This started as I had to prepare for my Art Preliminary Exam (Human Proportion)
Well, I don't think its as good as I wanted, but hey, its practice!
Sorry, but my scanner isn't too good, some of the shading I actually did cannot be seen

Re: My Idea!
Well, construktive critizism from me.
The powerfist is rather square, it would be better if you could squeeze in some of the joints that are on the powerfist odels arms,
And the legs are way to skinny, beef them up and you will have a much better angel of death!
And the bolt pistol looks like crap. (Actual crap, no offense)
Overall square-ish, but then, you tried to do the hardest things in drawing, cloth over armour, and hoods and hands. (*Shudders, i still hate hands*)
It's a good start, keep working on it and you will see that many of your errors will have improved vastly!

Re: My Idea!
D'oh!
Thanks for the suggestions though
I realise it is squarish... Yep, the bolt pistol does look a whole lot like crap... I kinda gave up on it after erasing and re-drawing 4 times and settled for the crap... The angle of it was driving me absolutely nuts
The legs... Dang, I knew I should have made the legs bigger... Ah well, gotta keep trying...
The Fist: The angle I was looking at it at was making it look squarish... I'll try to make it more curved next time.
Initially, I wanted to add in the Marine Helmet, but gave up as my helm looked like a perfect square
My Art often requires me to draw clothing so the Hood and all that are "practised"
Lastly, how is the shading?

Well, i've definetly seen worse.
I just remembered where i've seen this guy before, in your thread
Sometimes i'm real fast
And the shading........ it's shading, not too fancy, not too little, it's probably good, i guess.

It is a good starting sketch Brother.
If this is for an art class about human proportions then I would caution you about using a Space Marine as your subject. Space Marines are notoriously out of proportion compared to humans. This pic should help you see my point:
Maybe draw an assasin, Inquisitor, or Guardsman if you want to work within the 40k Universe.

WOAH! They look waaaaaaay to big and outta proportion, I should not learn how to draw them lest it harm my Art Exam!
In the meantime, it seems that they wear at least XXXXL clothing wouldn't you say?
They look a bit too bulky...

I think that these pics actually helped the whole Astrates thing make sense to me. I am a visual guy, and even though I have read about how big they are etc... these pics actually put it all into perspective for me.

I'm a bit inclined to say that the power armour would be a lot thicker and the body would be in much better proportion. In all the novels SM's are described as being amazing specimens of humans. Those pictures certainly don't mirror that concept.

I'm not sosure Brother Z.
If the armour was thicker and the marine smaller the marine would not "fit" the armour
That's why in my previous post I said that this pic cleared things up for me
I agree with you that at first glance they are not what you would consider as a perfect human specemin, but the more you look at the pics the more they fit with the descriptions of a Space Marine on every other level.

Re: My Idea!
One thing that has always bugged me about art depicting Space Marines is the discrepancy in size between head and body. The heads are in most cases way too small and sometimes it's difficult to even distinguish them in a given pic.

Well, you do need to remember that I am doing Human proportions, not Marine(My exam you see), I might draw a better one next time

If you look at all those pictures, all of the "human" look awfully wrong.
Seriously, not even the armour looks like power armour is supposed to look like, it's to wide, and too ugly!
I'd guess marines look like a mix between the 2 large humans.

Re: My Idea!
I actually think those pics are much more in proportion compared to a lot of GW models. Even you Klom have stated on how skinny a lot of model legs are. I think though that if GW did increase proportions the models would end up too bulky-looking and would be harder to cast in dynamic poses. Let us know how your exam goes n00bk1ng. You definitley have some talent. For me, I can barely draw a bath.

Re: My Idea!
The model i think has skinny legs is the gk justicar model and only from the side.
1) Take a justicar.
2) Turn it so you see the legs from the models right side.
3) Wonder why the creator did the legs so thin.
Other models have good legs, mostly.
It's mostly that the creator of the above pic made a really ugly power armour that wasn't really perfect size to base his marine on, + the marine barely fits as he is to largely made or the armour too small.
But looking at a gkt i do see a tendency of the same overzisings as the above pic.
Not that much though.

Re: My Idea!
I think the basketball player but slightly bulkier is more likely realistic. There is no rationale in the armour being as thin as it is in that representation. Also from reading the first horus book I'd definately be inclined to think there is alot more to the armour. I don't know if its production has advanced or something, but its pretty strange that the 'power armour' is about the thickness of normal clothes in some areas.
The Justicar legs are definately very thin even compared to normal GK but I would say its to give the pose and his ribbons/lion cloth a bit more definition.

Re: My Idea!
One thing we have to separate is the visual art concept and the actual model cast. I think GW's plastic production technology has significantly improved (just look at the BA termies from SH). I have no doubt that if and when they come out w/ our new codex along w/ (hopefully) new plastic GK models, they will look even better. Still, I think our current GK models are still awesome, specially the GKTs

Yea thats to be sure, the GKTs have to be some of the finest models made!
I noticed when mentioned the Justicars different leg widths, but looking at the model it doesn't strike me as odd, or out of place. Looks appropriate. That being said it is covered by the loincloth and purity seals.

Hmmm...... maybe make resin molds of our GKT and make Resin GKT! If you know how... They are indeed the Emperors finest(models).

Re: My Idea!
Nah, that's really a bad idea, if gw finds out they will sue your ass of, theoretically.
But you could do strangely similar models in green stuff, and even sell them with somewhat different names.
Then it's ok.
Like the Iron brotherhood. Which "isn't at all similar" to adeptus mechanicus models and almost name.
Perhaps the "Steam templars" supreme warriors of the intergalactic commandos, armed with halberds blessed by the steam templar priests.
Perhaps you get my idea. But copying gw models (or most other things) is copyright infringement and is illegal, actually, according to law, gw owns all gw models and everything we do counts as..... something, but i don't remember the fancy word.

Yeah, straight copies of gw models is very not good.
But making resin copies of gkt should be pretty simple, and not to mention easier to work with.
But then, it's illegal, you could do it, just don't ever tell anyone or use the models.
Which makes it kinda pointless.
