Nausaden's Grey Knight Comics

Post by Nausaden on Wed Sep 02, 2009 4:44 pm

Welcome once again Brothers; I said I'd post up a page of what I am working on to give a good idea of the style I'll be doing for a Grey Knight project I have been working on. I'd love to transform batreps and the like into full fledged comics, but I took a song that I heard and started transferring it to paper. This was partially because the song fit so well, and partially because I just wanted to practice drawing Space Marines and Chaos Razz I am not that great of an artist, but I promise to try putting my all for these works I post.

This is just a sketch I did; the actual action won't occur for another page. Please tell me what you think! *Also note that my Scanner is cursed, and I honestly need to get one that DOESN'T ruin all my scanned images Razz* Ah, silly me, in my rush to get this up I scribbled on the text from the song incorrectly Razz It's suppouse to be "Oh God forbid this BLOODY war..." Sorry, when I do cleaner versions I'll fix this page up.

Ahh, so messy! I wish my models were better reference material, but at least they are fun to stare at Razz

Very impressive though parts of the right side seem missing. You have some real talent there Nausaden. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thank you very much Brother Nemesis; I don't deserve much praise, as I am still struggling ^^;

Ah, I see that it got cut off a bit...bloody scanner made the picture look dirtier then it is >_<. But I shall do my best to clean it all up when I post the rest of it. I plan to post it all up only when I am satisfied with it, and hopefully this "test" won't drag on too long Razz

Nice stuff! Your sketching is great, those knights look realistic! Especially their stances (always found drawing anything remotely humanoid impossible)

I say like this.

*Huge thumbs up*

It's not the same quality of some comics like, let's say donald duck, BUT!!!!

This is nothing to not deserve praise from, this is really good stuff, although i don't get that justicar at all. (Random one-liners in all its glory, but they usually make sence, but hey, it's just the first page)

This is my advice, try to find alot of how-to's that comic artists use to make their comics, i think this would look better in noir style than colour style.
How they clean their stuff up, how they scan it and so on.

I think this is great that someone actually keeps doing comics. So i give you this.

[Nausaden recieved an item]
"Bucket of the praise you deserve: Used in item synthezising and when bragging"

Keep em coming, and as you know..... practise makes perfect!

Very Happy Thank you very, very much Brother Zealadin and Brother Klomster! I will heed your advice and start seeking some guides to get cleaner stuff. Armor and Warhammer 40 k style are very new to me, so I have been practicing to get the right feel for it.

I promise I will continue my passion, and post everything relating to Warhammer 40 K *which will be 90% Grey Knight* here Very Happy

Zealadin: Ah, I have been sketching humans for a long, long time, and I still havent gotten the hang of it Razz It really does just take practice. When drawing humans, I find it particularly hard because since we see them everyday, anyone who sees a picture of one can easily point out "wrongness" in the anatomy and what not, regardless of artistic merits XD So it's really a nasty trial and error amount of practice.

Klomster: *Laughs* That is an awesome item Brother Klomster Very Happy Also, the words are the lyrics to a song, entitled "In Flames you Burn". Its very literal, about a warrior who sees his comrades fall one by one, and he avenges them. It talks so much about faith and what not that I instantly thought Grey Knights Razz As this is a practice run in drawing them, and creating a story I think I'll want to use someones Batrep. Maybe I'll have some form of competition, for whomever posts the most exciting batrep *or one I like the most* I'll draw a comic. But that's for later, after I get used to a drawing style for them.

Haha yea its very easy to critique anything human, but I think those same critics would be astounded how hard it is to do as well as many artists do, let alone btter!

Very Happy 1000 Thank you's to both Brother Klomster and Brother Zealadin!

Aye, I feel like I set up that page just so I could draw the bottom one Razz The next few pages are all very exciting poses however that I am playing around with, and that's were I think it'll get really cool!

Indeed Brother Zealadin, it certainly qualifies for "Not as easy as it looks" Razz

Everyone has "artistic talent" but its really all about training your mind and taking the time to practice practice practice Very Happy

I remember all the comics i made when younger (now i sound all old and stuff *sigh*)

I made about 3 textbooks of a continous series, a creation story. (Small textbooks, the kind that is half the size of a normal paper)

I'm not bad at drawing but i haven't done it for a long time so i think i have worn off some of the skill, that has gone into better 40k painting instead.

I don't agree with you about artistic talent though, not everyone has it, but all can train to become better.
It's just important to get your mind set straight.

Aye; if you don't keep up practice with something it gradually degrades D: Prime example was martial arts for me; I had gone on a vacation for about a year and when I came back I was ashamed to put the belt back on because I had seemed to lose all my previous muscle memory. It came back though after enough training.

Razz And your not old; I have a mess of note books in my closet that I drift through every year or so, and the improvement made is astonishing. Paintings a lot of fun, and am I mixed in finding that I might actually enjoy painting more then drawing!

As for artistic talent, I stand by my earlier statement. I went through a lot of research on how the left and right hemisphere of the brain works; which actually has a lot to do with drawing. It helps in how we perceive objects and illustrate them, and depending on what side of your brain you rely on most usually dictates how you approach drawing/writing/arithmetic etc. After all, I was probably one of the worst "drawer-s" around many years ago. I read a book entitled "Drawing on the right side of the brain" and it honestly helped me out a lot.

Alright then Brothers! Forgive me for the long wait, but I have finally gotten to the point were I can draw the Grey Knights more accurately! I cannot promise Picasso, but I have a script and storyboard based on a very epic Apocalypse game set into motion.

I have spent a large portion of time embellishing the story, and making sure to keep everything accurate and interesting. The tale involves Black Templar, Orks, and of course the Knights of the Inquisition themselves. Please remain patient as I get to working on it, I promise to scan and set it up as soon as I've got it done Very Happy

Very Happy I wouldn't let it be NOT epic.

And no worries Brother Klomster; there is LOTS of power posing.

Yay, lots of powerposing.

If there is one thing that is important in a story, it's the depth, the style and the interaction.... of the powerposing.

So go for it!
