Psychic hoods...worth it for GK's?

I just witnessed a game where a Thousand Son's player had 2 sorcerer HQ's that were using warp time every turn. This gives them the ability to re-roll all their dice for that turn. This made me realize that we have a lot of opponents that have psychic powers that don't necessarily target GK's (e.g. eldar psychic powers) and therefore can't be negated by our Aegis. IG can have psykers; SM have librarians; enough said about eldar, etc.

Is it worth the 20 points to give your GM or BC a psychic hood? More importantly, is it worth giving up let's say, 1 PAGK for it? I'm thinking in terms of a tournament list where you'd run the same list against any opponent. Considering that more than half our opponents can field psykers, I'm thinking it may be. What do you think Brothers?

I definitely think it will be more uselful in tournies now that IG Psykers are more effective and we might see more of them. At one of my club game nights a Salamander player had an allied B-C with Hood and totally shut down his IG opponent.

Certainly worthwhile in a lot of situations, almost certainly in a take all comers list!

Against eldar, it's always worth it. GK will kill a few models of his, a hood can negate one of the reasons eldar win.

Against IG it's still fair. and marines. theres a few "you can't target me" and whatnot effects floating around that are dead handy to destroy. and for the points, you really can't go wrong with the hood. You've lost very little effectiveness, even against non-psychic opponents.

And imagine playing another GK player and negating his holocaust? eh?

I never leave home without a psychic hood on my gm.

Though I do have a question. If I take 2 hoods in one army then does that give me 2 opportunities to nullify a single power?

LOL I actually thought about that...giving my GM and the BC of my GKTs a psychic hood each. Although with the limited points available, I chose Holocaust instead for the GKT's.

I think I'll email the rulesboyz on the 2 psychic hood scenario...

I'm pretty sure they'll rule that you can't do it more then once. Just like how you can't stack the aegis and hood, how you can never reroll a reroll, or how you in most cases only get one save against a wound caused, and have to choose what to take, GW seems to only want you to get one chance at something.

The only reason i could think of that you can't is that the hood says the power is used when you fail your check, so presumably that means that you can't make another check, part of the hoods power/roll is it's beat it or it goes off right away. but thats a shakey raw interpretation at best. best of luck, brother

Just took a boo through the SM dex and it seems that only Librarians have it by default so that won't help. Can IG Heroes purchase it I wonder? Personally, I think it should be a one per army item. Taking two and slapping an Eldar opponent with them just ain't in good spirit. Filthy Xeno scum that they are.

XD *Laughs* Filthy scum indeed Nemesis; but that is good sport to only have one. I imagine that as Brother MJS said that its once per ability. On a side note, a Hood is a great supplement to a Grandmaster and retinue! Nothing better then slapping an opponent too reliant on psychic powers with a Hood.
