Strike force Castus meets the grand enemy for the first time

Yes, it's true, my grey knights have actually fought the great enemy, and triumphed!

It will not be a proper battle report, more like a summary of the epic things different things did, sometimes i will jump between the events.


On a green world, somewhere in the sweden sector, in the Umeå subsector on the battlefields of the gaming club,there inquisitor Ia'a Gontragun and his ministorum priest have located a chaos cult that plans to unleash something really bad.

Only thing to do is to send in strike force Castus for some serious purging.

The scenario is actually "Stop the ritual" that can be found in codex deaonhunters, to everyones surprise i infiltrated the area and enemy sentries was deployed.

I started on a short table edge and "infiltrated" the area with 32-ish stormtroopers, 2 squads of grey knights, 2 inquisitors (my opponet actually said i should use inquisitor Germahim, gaining me an pointwise advantage of 51pts !!!)

A land raider and a dreadnought, yup, they infiltrated the area, they would have triggered the alarm on a roll of 3+, which the cultists failed., and ulf (the dread) "infiltrated" 3.1" inches away from a cultist, as cultists have I 3 they couldn't spot the dreadnought standing right before him.

Another cultist sentry couldn't spot 8 stormtroopers in red armour, supported with a squad of grey knights in shining armour. It really looked totally ridiculus.

The epic battle commenced and the eversor dispatched a sentry with ease, stormtrooper squad Elamein claimed another kill.

In the centre, the inquisitor known as Germahim Ect ran up towards a cultist and attacked it with his massive 3(!!!) attacks on the charge, with S 3 he was barely able to hit the guardsman, not to mention wounding the bloody cultist.

The enemy guard swung his rifle but into the torso of the inquisitor, who just barely succeded with his epic 4+ save.
Thank the emperor for carapace armour!

For some reason the alarm wasn't triggered and the battle kept going, inquisition forces moving towards the huge khorne icon in the centre of the city, atop a huge pidestal of brass, a cultist summoning circle was conjuring and was wrapped in baneful warp energies.

In the epic turn 2, the inquisitor epicly failed again (with an epic roll of 1 and 1, he probably stumbled on an invisible turtle or something) ,barely outperforming the inquisitor the cultist actually hit the inquisitor but he was to tough an opponet to kill. (..................yeah)

About now, squad Weiz is kinda bored and thinks "are you not done yet" so they charge the cultist. Apparently rooaring praises to the emperor (perfectly good any other time, except in a sneaking mission) they trigger the alarm and all hell breaks loose. (Literally)

The eversor flies trough the air on the left flank and kills 4 guardsmen, but suffers a wound in the fray.
On the right, the grand masters personal pimp wagon "Puritas, the Iron crusader" lumbers forth and deploys it's cargo of the emperors finest, 6 grey knight terminators and a grand master!

Before them, a deamon prince is engulfing storm troopers in warpflames (the stormtroopers scream and die horribly)

Holy bolter fire crash into the evil warpspawn (the enemy army contains the new imperial guard, allied forces from codex deamon, and even a greater deamon of chaos from codex deamonhunters! plus deamonhosts, truly an evil force to reckoned with)

The eversor kills off 4 more and EXPLODES!!! Killing the last of squad.

The deamon prince dies after killing of the poor storm troopers, holy bolter fire is not good for deamon wellfare.
But in the ruins beside them, an assassin emerges (sly marbo from new imperial guard, modelled as an assassin) AND THROWS A VIRUS BOMB AT MY TERMINATORS!!!!

STRENGTH 10 AP 2 LARGE BLAST KABOOOMM!!!!! 4 terminators die.

-What the? KILL THE HERETIC!!! The grand master rooars to his brothers who go left while the grand master keeps advancing forward.

-O.o! the assassin says before Brother captain borley and his incinerator gunner Reva crashes trough the ruins too meet him. But the bloody assasin stabs Reva in the eye so the Grey knight DIIES horribly screaming AVENGE MEEE!!!
The brother captain, now filled with hate from loosing all of his squad to this vile assasin stabs the bloody wretch trough the mouth, all down the body trough his innards, coming out the other side, imploding and dying a hooribly as an assasin can die as Borley exacts his wrath.

On the left flank a group of slaneeshy succubus deamons closes in, with squad Weiz in sight.

On the far left a hellhound toasts a squad of stormtroopers, who die horribly.

In the centre, inquisitor Ect proudfully steps ontop a crashed aquila lander, sniper bullets falling from his great armour (carapace), firing his psycannon at a secondary summoning circle, hitting nothing but ruins and debris, barely even that.
On the centre temple, the enemy primaris psyker tries to unleash her powers, but fail. (Gotta love psychic hood+ grand master)

SUDDENLY! A group of cultists jump forth and fire with their lasguns at the grand master.
-Haha, meere lasguns cannot harm me AAAOOOOW!!!! He looses 2 wounds. The cultists then charge him.......... bad idea.... the grand master immidiately counters with a twohanded swing of his sword that cleaves 4 cultists where they stand, then he unleashes a HOLOCAUST killing 4 more.

The puny cultists try to flee in terror but dies from the sheer radience of awesomeness the grand master emits. (He won the initiative roll, with an awful lot)

About now, a deamonhost appears suddenly (timeshift) in stormtrooper squad Mannenheim, they fight effectivly (not) and reveered battle brother Ulf who is waiting behind them.

The deamonettes on the left sees that they can charge the grey knights of Weiz, and laugh happily and is just about to dance towards the puny humans in front of them, totally in the open when they fall to the ground as their feets are stuck, they realise the sheer powerpose of the grey knights of Weiz is too much to close in on. (It's fun that deamons must test difficult terrain to reach grey knights)

-Alig,, redeploy and ready the incinerator! Weiz orders his incinerator operator.

Alig and a stormtrooper of squad Agronius dpeloyes in a wonderful position, where they can put their flame template all over the entire deamonette squad, they die hooribly from the holy flames, the ones that are left are gunned down with righteus bolter fire.

FLAAAAMMMEEEE!!!!! Is suddenly heard and agronius dissapears in a raging inferno. The hellhound is here, and it's next target is..... Weiz!

Things don't go much better for my poor stormtroopers of squad Elamein as the deamonhost suddenly emits a Bloodboil and kills the entire squad with it except 2. Which it just kills the old fashioned way.

At the temple of brass.... the summoning ritual goes on, from the sky, the cultists see the power of their god raging, white hot and... wait, that looks like *KABOOOOMM!!!!* -SCREEECH!!! Teddy, the lance strike strikes down upon the ritual, thousands die (ok, just one, but it sounds cooler with thousands) and all the cultists throw themselves to the ground in fear!!!!

On the right flank, the grand master sees snipers firing at his inquisitor, this isn't good. He closes in.

Ontop of the crashed aquila, Germahim Ect stands immortal, a true hero of the imperium, psycannon in hand blasting away at the foul enemies of man, sniper bullets falling from his golden armour, he shoots at the cultists (again doing nothing) and with furious hatred, he rooars out..... -AAAIIIEEEEEEEKK!!!!! He is engulfed by a warpstorm that was cast by the enemy primaris psyker.

Germahim dies horribly.

The deamonhost in the centre die i think, it couldn't stand the power of something.

but a second deamonhost charge my poor dreadnought, and he looses an arm, and a leg,,(deamonhost get warpstrength) Ulf rooars to his brother Borley.
-Brother, help me, i cannot best it on my own.. Almost crying becouse of his inability in the face of the enemy.
-I will help you brother Ulf. Borley replies and starts to move towards his brother in distress.

Behind the poor dreadnought a warprift opens and out steps..... A SOUL GRINDER. (In the shape of a smaller titan, not warhound)

Even Borley stops for a while.... considering..
-What is wrong brother? The saddened dreadnought asks, not seeing what closes in behind him, the soul grinder puts a foot ontop the dreadnoughts head.
-What is it brother, i feel so heavy? Ulf asks again, the enemy deamon engine easily 10" high, with a foot on the dreadnoughts head.
-UUuuhhh.... nothing, nothing at all really, now let's kick this deamohost ass! Borley sais, knowing that they are epicly screwed.

It was actually the deamonhost that killed them.... poor brothers, staying with eachother to the end.

On the left, a psyker battle squad unleashes a powerful ability on the grey knights of Weiz, reducing them to LD 0 Fearless........

I couldn't take any other possible explenation than that they started to talk jamaican like and think everything is cool and do very untactical things, so they charged the hellhound.
Doing no damage at all, they fail epicly as their melta bomb flies above the enemy tank and explode fashionably.

Squad Weiz applauds the nice fireworks.

4 metres to their left squad Velio watches their brethren talk strange and applauding nonsense, trying to get some advise what the heck is happening.

The grand masters radio is filled with static, and he ensures Velio it will be perfectly fine but that he has no time right now and then the radio is overflowed with screaming and prayers and is then shut off.

What has happend is that Castus leaped onto the second floor of the building the snipers was in, killing them messily. He then jumps down again.

Only too see...... A herald of slaneesh!
With a coat, that he opens and show all of his slaneesh blessings of his body.

Castus stares, and then says.
-Yeah, I've seen better! The deamon is angered beyond recognition and charges Castus but Castus counters with.
-I KNOW YOUR NAME, SMELL THIS!!!! He screams that as he holds up a grimoire of true names and squirts emperor perfume into the eyes of the deamon. (Sacred incense)
-MY EYES!!!!! Is the last the deamon says before Castus cleaves him in two.

On the left, squad Velio shot the primaris psyker in the head with their psycannons revealing........ A GREATER DEAMON OF CHAOS!!! With a force weapon, str 9 force weapon, bloody insane!
The deamon unfoled its wings and set forth towards.... CASTUS!!!

For about 3 rounds three sentinels (modelled as trikes) has been shooting their epic rockets at Puritas, the Iron crusader, and haven't even been able to hit it.
Puritas ignores them and turns around.
-Oh snap... He sais as the SOUL GRINDER!!! Stalks up on him, the deamon construkt is huge and walks towards him with thunderous strides, with a belching rooar it stumbles and falls to the ground, quickly standing up again saying.
-I'm okay, i'm okay. (The model actually has moveable parts, and my friend accidentally bent a leg so it fell down into some kind of pile and it really looked like i wrote, really funny)

-Uuuuuhh? Puritas answers and open fire with ALL HIS GUNS! (Doing nothing)

On the far, faaaar left flank squad Velio spots this looming construct heading for their land raider.
-Targeters! In range! FIRE!!! 6 psycannon shells.

-HAHAhHA, your puny weapons can't harm... AAAAARRGH!!!! KABOOOOMMM!!!!!! The psycannons blow the soul grinder up in an epic explosion.(rear penetrating hit)

-Hahaha! Puritas laughed mechanically and drove away. (I actually open and close the front hatch of the raider like a mouth when i'm having alot of fun playing against this guy, it kinda looks like a face and we have had many a fun time with my "talking land raider" jokes, it looks hilarious.)

Weiz suddenly realise they have charged a tank. (The LD 0 effect wore off) and was very annoyed when the hellhound tankshocked them.

But Weiz held the meltabomb onto the hull of the tank and BOOM!!!! It was destroyed, succesful death or glory.(When we play, we only do stupid things in an attempt to create as many powerpose moments as possible)

Weiz moves out into the open again. Only to be attacked by cultists in a chimera. But they hear footsteps on the back and Alig puts the incinerator beneath the chimera and pulls of.
WOOOOSHH!!!! FLAAAMEEE!!! AAAIIIEEEEEKKK!!! is the result and only 2 cultists remain. Close combat ensues, it was epic fail as Weiz personally tried to kill the chimera with melta charges, but only deastroys some weapons.
And the rest of his squad like.... stumbles and stuff and don't kill a single cultist.

To make things even worse, a deamonhost charges him and again, the close combat is EPIC (fail) and only the tank looses its last weapon.

The chimera zooms off going over 2 houses and tank shocking Velio and the inquisitor standing with them.
Velio is like-
-WTF???
And steps aside. staring at the chimera standing atop the ruin they have held from turn one.

-Psycannoneers, reposition and try to shoot in the back! Velio orders, Janko and Dreza fires the massive guns into the rear but it doesn't do damage.
-What the? Ok CHARGE!!!! Velio orders and they attack the chimera.

I start rolling for the str 4 guys.

And.... THEY HEAVE THE CHIMERA AND TOPPLES IT SO IT FALLS OF THE TABLE!!!! (Totally killing it,and the str 6 guys didn't even have time to hit)
They reposition themselves and their inquisitor says.
-The sanctuary protects those with strong faith!
*SOULSTOOOORM!!!!!*
The enemy psyker squad fires a soulstorm that is str 9 ap 4 at them. Hitting 4 grey knights and the inquisitor and his aide.

And the sanctuary apparently protects those with faith, as only the priest that was his retinue dies horribly.

Weiz in the end fails his combat for the last time, they killed the cultists, but his 2 men died at the hands of the enemies. And as only Weiz and the deamonhost stands they stare at eachother, archenemies in faith and in body.
Then Weiz died, just died. Even the deamonhost don't understand what happened. (extra wounds suffered from close combat, 1 wound, of course he failed.)

At the foot of the brass temple, the deamon and the deamohunter face off, a sudden weird teleport occurs (my friend thought it would be cooler to have the epic battle ontop the temple) they stand atop the brass pidestal with the khorne symbol beneath their feet.

-You cannot stand before the might fo chaos, soon the ritual will be finished, and then, all of humanity will perish!!! The shedeamon tells Castus.

-Perhaps, but i won't let that happen that easily, i wan't to finish a book before that happens. Castus replies.

-Oh, what is that book? The slaneeshy deamon asks.

-Oh, it's just THE GRIMOIRE OF TRUE NAMES!!!!! EAT EMPEROR PERFUME AND NEMESIS FORCE WEAPON!!!!!

-Snap....... is the last the deamon utters before Castus shoves both the grimoire and the perfume down the throat of the deamon, then he starts the serious business of hacking the now Ws 2 deamon into tiny tiny pieces.

It dies horribly as it explodes from a nemesis force weapon strike. Splut.

Castus then collects the ancient grimoire and the sacred insense silently puffs over the area, as Castus begins prayer.

He is again at the foot of the brass temple (i suggested it was best to move the model back)

Now only Velio, the inquisitor, Castus and Puritas are left.

Puritas who has been shot at by the sentinels in about 1000 turns (lost count of how long this battle actually lasted) they actually HIT!!!! For the first time!

Pling..

-HAHHAHAHAHA!!! Puritas laughs and he begins shooting his hurricane bolters at the sentinel trikes blowing one up and destroying a weapon following he fired his assult cannon and finishing the weaponless sentinel trike off.
Then he fired his multimelta and missed. Again, i think it hit once during the entire battle. And that was at bs 2. (Yes, of course it didn't do anything, what did you expect?)

The sentinel trike didn't really like his 2 mates beeing blasted to bits so he starts to round the temple.
As Castus is passing the temple on the other side he blasts at the cultists with his psycannon bolt storm bolter.

And the cultists charge him with desireable effect..... for me.

The once chanting cultists is suddenly burning dead paste on the ground as Castus keeps walking towards the stair at the far side of the temple.

At the left flank, a deamonhost is watching, and watching..... more watching..
(My opponet wanted to charge Velio, but he was within the inquisitors Sanctuary no line of sight, cannot enter, he was a tiny bit bitter that i didn't tell him that )

Then Velio shot the crap out of it

Castus now rounded the temple and saw..... a sentinel that charged him.

Epic combat ensues (remember, Castus has 1 wound left)

And the inquisitor with Velio starts moving towards the psyker battle squad in a house, the inquisitor unleashes his sick close combat skilllz (bolt pistol close combat weapon!!!!! RAAAARGH!!!)

The psykers in the house watches the man in a very nice big white robe and a red hood and black coat.
Poke.
-Argh.. The inquisitor died.

Everybody stares at the dead inquisitor on the ground.
-Ok, should we fight now? Velio asks, the overseer of the squad nods. (The knights wasn't in range as the inquisitor was an independent character.)

Back to Puritas, he starts the long journey of moving towards the other side of the board to aid his brothers.

The grand master is still in heated combat with the sentinel and he hits, penetrates, and BOOOOMM!!!!!!!!!!111!11!!! 6" EXPLOSION THE GRAND MASTER DIIEEEEES!!!!!.................

Epic death.

The now 3 grey knights left fight the psykers for several rounds, it was very even (which is very sad as his guys cost 10pts each )

In the end, Velio manages to kill the last psyker, the ritual has been stopped, and Puritas rolls towards him and asks.
-So... should we go home now?
-Yeah.. Velio answers and they walk of together.

End results worth mentioning.:
I won the first time i faced deamons!!!!! Booya!
Castus killed and finished off about 7 units, on his own, with one wound left.
2 models survived.
It was epic.
It ended 3.30 in the morning.

Wow. I think I finished 2 cups of coffee before I finished reading the epic battle! LOL

Well, it wasn't an all deamon army.

But the deamons that were present wasn't of the small kind, so i'm pleased.
