LOL. True. But with my SW i canĀ“t get an Assassine. And with my ACs no Wraithlord had ever reached CC.Klomster wrote:Wraithlords don't like assult cannons?

Yup. He only needs to score one wound (on a 6 of course). However, Brother Ferrochrome's 1000 point list doesn't have a GM...so he's trying to deal w/ 2 wraithlords in an opponent's 1000 point list....

Makes it very very dicey to try to put a GM toe to toe with one since he can be instantly killed.
You could also try a strike somewhere you think the walker will pass through and try and nail him with that, probably lance strike (that the vehicle one?)

The lance strike only will do one wound and to spend 90 or 80 pts on the off chance that you hit it is not worth the cost imo.
The eversor, I have used a couple of times effectively, and the Eldar player knows to place his WL in a position where I wont be able to charge in the first turn.
At 1000pts LR are just too expensive (especially when an eldar player fields more than one lance weapon), and single dreadnoughts are good but lack in fire power.
I'm thinking a combination of TLLC and ML dread and Eversor is good to get rid off the WLs but, it's a lot of points to take care of something that costs less and is sooo bloody hard to kill.

Re: 1000pts Daemonhunter Army
I can empathize w/ your predicament there Brother F. There's no easy way around it. You already mentioned the points constraints on the LR and the "value for your buck" randomness of an OB.
With the unit choices you have, I guess you'll just have to rely on terrain, deployment and maneuvering to take your opponent down.
The vindicare could be a viable option since the WL will only get a max 5+ cover save (spy mask) unless they can fit into a bunker or something equivalent. However, you'll need at least 2 shots if you use the turbo-penetrator and only have a 50% chance of wounding (except for the hellfire of course).
I still think the eversor still stands a better chance. He'll get 4 + d6 attacks on the 1st assault w/c would give him 7-8 attacks on the average w/c equates to 3-4 wounds on the average. If only you can ensure he can assault ASAP...

To be honest I wouldn't put much focus on the WL's. Focus on everything else. They are slow and realistically they won't be taking out more than one or two models a turn if your opponent is lucky. If all he's got left are two WL's by the end of the game then he probly isn't going to win. Focus on the juicy targets. He will be wishing he hadn't spent so many points on the WL's when all of his troops are dead and he can't hold an objective.

Also unless they are accompanied by a farseer/warlock they need to roll for wraithsight, and with an assasin you probably have the option of killing their psycher and making them roll each turn!

Good point. The Eldar player tends to place them in the middle of the field so I find it hard to just ignore them.
He always has a Warlock with them and I've tried the Vindicare a few times, and he is just too unreliable. Ineffective is another term we could use for him.
If only I could have a non dedicated transport (apart from the LR) to transport that Eversor to wherever I want...
Still he is the ultimate weapon and I love my Eversor. I just need to outplay my opponent with him if he uses those blasted Wraithlords.
I wish we could have two Eversors in the one army....

LOL If only we could have 2 eversors, that would be insane!
...and it's also too bad that assassins can never be put in a transport
Still, I think you have a fairly good chance if you use terrain and deployment to maximize your strike opportunities. It would be challenging...good luck!

Re: 1000pts Daemonhunter Army
Well, here's the updates list. I should have done the update a while back but I guess I got lazy. I played this list against Eldar last weekend, and even though it was a draw, it was the best game I've had in a while... story wise, tactics wise and apoc style events wise (like a couple of vehicles exploding and taking a fair amount of people with them - the best one being a Falcon with holofield (or whatever that lame field is called) exploding on a double 6 and wiping out 6 Dire Avengers and 4 Guardians).
I was deployed in the most horrible side of the table, with only a small park to give me some cover, while the opponent was nice and comfy behind heaps of barricades.
I'm definitely looking forward to this weekends' game. I'll be playing the same list against SM

Re: 1000pts Daemonhunter Army
Brother FTE, no I dont bother with them. I try to use terrain or other minis to my advantage.
Brother Rivan, I wiped the floor in two games. Two different eldar armies. One was setup to deal with MEQs and I destroyed him in four turns while all I had was one immobilized chimera.
The other game was a jetbike/vyper/warwalker based eldar army. That gave me a bit more of a challenge but by turn five all he had left were a vyper with no weapons left and three warwalkers, two of which had no weapons left. I still had a near full strength stormie squad + chimera, my two dreads and the BC.
I enjoyed both games, but the second one was much more interesting as it was more of a challenge.
Cant wait for my IG army with GK allies.

The thing is, with the new IG codex, there are soooo many combinations for army lists. Its a bit daunting when writing up a list from scratch. Especially since I haven't played IG since, oh say 2nd ED rules...

Its good they are doing that though, I heard alot of complaints from SM players feeling the newer rules where a bit more constrictive than the old ones

I think that's just SM players doing what they do best... complain.
I had a look at the SM codex and frankly there is quite a nice selection for them imo.
The way everything is layed out takes a bit of getting used to, especially when you have our codex in mind, but the choice is massive.

Congrats on the wins! Especially with the 'weakest army in 5th!' It's always good to hear.
I'll second the SM players whining. I love the SM codex (which is now becoming my second favorite to the DH ) because of the amount of things you can do with it. I can't see how the new codex is at a loss for anything, unless of course you're attempting to make an uber fluffy army (read: power gaming). For some of the SM players out there, they like to use the word fluff to mean power-game, min/max, unbalanced, etc. Call me crazy...

Thanks Brother E.
I hear you on uber fluffy and the meaning some SM players have for it. A lot of people whine about new rules, or how a unit was nerfed, etc, but at the end of the day the only reason they whine is because they have to adapt to new tactics. I like when things change, it keeps me entertained. I'll like it even more when the new Inquisition codex comes out.
I might just still be alive when that happens.
