Deathwatch question

Post by Pyriel on Tue Nov 08, 2016 2:47 pm

Got the DW codex and I must be stoopid because there is one thing I cant find. How on earth are you supposed to be able to run standalone squads of bikes or terminators, vanguards etc if all choices (core, auxillary, etc) are made up of veteran squads of 5 models stuck with bikers and terminators and vanguards etc?

You must take foot veterans with every terminator/bike and the squads cant be bigger then 10 man and cannot be broken up or combat squadded?

How am I supposed to run a bike squad if they cant even be allowed to drive more then 6ībecause they are forced to be crammed up with foot veterans?

What did I miss?

you can't... if you run a kill team that is !
if you want to use a kill team for the special rules, you have to accept the restrictions too ! One of them is to run a mixed unit (bike+SM+termies or assault +SM and so on...) with the mouvement equal to the foot SM one ! Evil or Very Mad
it's stupid ! i know !... but it is how it works...

Wonder what the point of it is. Why would anyone want bikes slowed down by infantry, your vets are 5 so you cant even rely on majority toughness etc as a bonus to restricting bikes like that.

At least terminators can still deepstrike since the veterans can.

the reason for the bikes in the squad is to give the unit split fire. vanguard, terminators and bikes all give a certain bonus to the unit if you want it too. thats why there is the minimum 1 requirement.

in addition you can still use the regular combined arms detatchment if you want to play solo bikes/terminators.

Ah, missed that one, thanks.

What squad "bonus" does a terminator give?

Terminators = fearless (and a possible tank to soak a bit of damage Razz)
Bikes = split fire
vanguard = reroll charge distance (jumppack and yes, it works for the unit if at least one can do it) aswell as heroic intervention (you never do disordered charges. so always +1 A even when attacking multiple targets)

Thanks for the info. Didnt pay to much attention when reading the codex.

Now it sounds way more fun to go wild with squad building.
