Nemisis Force Weapons Empty Nemisis Force Weapons

Why did Games Workshop choose to make the standard Nemisis force weapon a halberd?

Not that there is anything wrong with the halberd but with the whole range of weapon types out there why a halberd when you could equally have an axe, hammer or sword.

Your thoughts

Actually, if you read the description, they can come in the form of swords and axes also. As far as I'm concerned, they can come in almost any weapon form Very Happy

According to me the reason the halberd is the standard type is becouse it is AWESOME!!

Seriously, few games and movies use halberds, they are really cool.

That's my take.
But yes, they can be any shape.

There's nothing wrong with the weapon coming in any shape really, but if there's a question concerning it- be sure to address it before the game starts (such as whether or not something is a thunderhammer, or a force weapon).

Hope this helps

IIRC in the frist GK novel there had been NFW in form of a mace and a hammer mentioned. It was also mentioned that this versions had become very rare.

Having read my original post back it was a bit ambigious I know that they do come in all forms and that hammers etc have become rare this was more a question from a fluff poit of view as to why the halberd has become the dominat weapon type used by grey knnights, when on the models a justicar for a PAGK has a sword and yet if he was promoted to a termiator he would appear to go back to having a halberd.

I assume that on the models a different weapon like the sword is just to denote a character/sergent.

I would say that it (on the GW models) is not an axe or hammer because those appear more like space wolves weapons and their norse theme. As for the mace, that seems like a signature weapon of sisters of battle.

I guess they wanted weapons that look more knightyish (or couldn't be bothered making more molds), even though axes, hammers and maces would have undeniably been used by knights, halberds and swords look more knightyish

Gw wanted an unique weapon for the knights.

How many else has halberds?

Plus from a fluff reason, a halberd can dish out alot of hurt, espescially if it's 2 metres long and as thick as a rifle.

What would be interesting would have to be a simple PAGK switching weapons with a Justicar. That would most probably turn a few heads (Though might dub him as Alaric then).

Also, I do recall that from the novels that the NFW does have other incarnations. Brother Dvorn, from Dark Adeptus, and Hammer of Daemons, is the only one of Alaric's squad that uses one. Which might be interesting to see as well. Convert a hammer so that it's a NFW instead of either a Daemonhammer or a Thunder Hammer.

Now I'm interested into what we might see later on as conversions for the knights.

Next time I get a box of PAGK's, I'll be sure to mix it up with the knights.

Thanks for the responses.

Now another question regarding NFW is there a weapon type which is better suited to fighting the demonic e.g. halberd, hammer, mace, axe, sword etc or are they all equally effective, because each of the weapons have different strenghts and weakness as well as different fighting styles.

as far i'm concerned NFW can take any form, but in the past the stormbolter was integrated IN the NFW so GW needed a long symetric weapon to permit fire so the hammers maces and so on were out...
But now that stormbolter is separated it's technically possible to create different NFW

Effective weapons against the daemonic? Well for a more heroic looking army, a stereotypical hero arch type of course, or a more romantic appeal to said army is without a doubt a sword. The knights are anything but the stereotypical romantic hero-arch type. They have to destroy the daemon and it think about coming back to the Materium ever again. So either a hammer or a mace would suffice in dishing out justice to the foul minions of the ruinous powers.

The hammer and mace would be brutal but would show a since of justice of course. Now the axe is a brutal weapon, very strong, and very efficient. The same can be said about halberds as well, since they are basically an axe with a really long pole (Polearm), but the Grey Knights in general seem to romanticize them, but the brutal nature of the weapon cannot be denied. It can also double as a spear as well further increasing it's usefulness compared to a simple axe, hammer, mace, or even a sword (Unless is a freaking slaughter sword).

Honestly, I'd have to say that its all about your own personal opinion, but I think that halberds would do the job nicely (Despite technically being a two-handed weapon) where if knights formed up into a battle line, they could spear oncoming daemons or charge with a bunch and use the sharp pointy ends. A hammer or mace would be nice to see somewhere as well to see those who deem themselves to be a judge and sentence each daemon back to the Immaterium.

Though an axe on a Grey Knight wouldn't sit well with me, since those are mostly what Berserkers use on there models, so I'd assume that no knight would be caught dead wielding a weapon similar to the enemy.

And swords require finesse which the knights do have over Space Marines (Just an increase of weapon skill when compared statline to statline). I think swords are fine with those who you deem to be Heroic (Any individual leader model). But if you give all of them swords, it would without a doubt romanticize the entire army and make them seem like Knights in shining army there to save the day...

Actually that's exactly what the knights do, but functionality wise, I'd choose something else besides a sword.
