Coming back to the hobby
Greetings everyone!
I've recently decided to come back to the hobby after a break of almost 10 years. I loved Grey Knights when I was younger so I plan to jump back in with a GK army. My original plan was to go collect my old miniatures from under my parents house but found out today that in the years since I moved out my dad has given away all my old miniatures, so it looks like I'll be starting from scratch.
I'm wondering what everyone would suggest as a solid starting point. Should I go with a squad of 10 PAGK to get myself started or go straight for the Terminator box? Then where should I go from there in terms of gradually building up an army for some games? I was thinking of going Librarian HQ but not really sure yet
Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Coming back to the hobby
Firstly, welcome back Brother! Glad that you have decided to get back into the hobby, and more importantly the Grey Knights.
The models have definitely changed a lot from 10 years ago!
In regards to where to start... I am quite partial to terminators, but it all depends on what you want from your force in regards to play style, competitiveness, looks, and fluff, etc...
Perhaps share what your vision is for your GK, and we can help further from there.
PS. Man, that sucks that your dad gave your stuff away! Metal GKs!!!

Yeah, I had 2 full squads of metal PAGK, a metal Terminator squad, Brother Captain Stern a Rhino and a Dreadnaught. All gone now.
Since so much has changed in the last 10 years (We were still using the Daemonhunters Codex last time I played) I'm not entirely sure what a competitive army looks like these days.
I'm probably leaning toward a Terminator squad to start with since they can be taken as troops now (and look awesome), and following it up with a Terminator Librarian and a 10 man PAGK squad. I'm also planning on magnetizing all my infantry to give myself maximum options without having to buy a ton of kits. Does anyone know if a 2mmx1mm disc magnet will fit in the wrist/hand of a Grey Knight? I've managed to find a box of 1000 of them for about $15 so hopefully they will.

IMHO you can't go wrong with Terminators
1mm x 2mm, that is tiny. Should fit. Hopefully they will be strong enough.

If they are just to hold weapons in place they should be sufficient.
Oh and welcome to this site, i don't know anything about stats and/or rules nowadays. So i can't help ya there.
But terminators are cool. And greatswords.

Welcome to the forum, Brother.
I've been using 3mmx1.5mm magnets, I could not find anything smaller. They fit the arms and hands well, though.

Re: Coming back to the hobby
Cheers, will definitely have a go through Sector Command as I start to build up an army.
Picked up my box of Terminators yesterday so I've been having a great time with the glue. I found a box of 1000 2mmx1mm magnets on ebay for only $15 so I'll see how they go, I'm going to glue the shoulders and just use them to attach the hands and weapons so I can swap between swords/halberds/falchions whenever I need to. Also planning to put one in the incinerator/psycannon so I can swap them out easily, hopefully the magnets are strong enough.
I'll upload a photo when I get them painted up

Re: Coming back to the hobby
Terminators!!!! Brilliant!
The terminator models really are a lot of fun to build aren't they.
You have a lot of drilling and filling ahead of you with that many magnets I'm sure it will be worth it in the end though.
As for the heavy weapons... I am pretty sure you will either need to use multiple magnets, or invest in some larger ones if you want the weapons to stay put.
Looking forward to some pics as things get going.

Re: Coming back to the hobby
My advice would be to build your army around Dreadknight's
They are one of the best units in the game and you probably run 2/3 in every battle so those should be your next purchase. Your magnets would be very useful for them also.
