1750 GKUM

Post by Amion Lightbringer on Tue Jan 13, 2015 4:26 pm

Hail Brothers!
I would like to hear your ideas on a draigowing, but without paladins! that's the Idea:

HQ
librarian lv3 (telepathy) searching for invisibility

TROOPS
PAGK X 5 (no special weapon)

FAST
Stormraven + locator beacon

HEAVY
2x Nemesis Dreadknight (personal teleporter + Heavy psicannon + Sword)

and...

Lord of war
DRAIGO !!!! (what else?)

ULTRAMARINE

HQ
Tigurius (biomancy for FNP and eternal warrior and divination to 4++ inv saves)

TROOPS
scout squad (damned 1 troop-tax!)

HEAVY (HERE IS THE DRAIGOWING!)

5 X Centurion (Grav and omniscope)

so, my idea was to shot anything with centurions, teleporting near the stormraven to not scatter, using the powers of the librarians and draigo's shield to protect my main force...
only a problem, maybe another stormraven would be a better choice instead of a dreadknight (giving more mobility to the deathstar)... but I'm already playing a draigowing without paladins, and I feel sick for this (damned GW i want a true NEW codex, not a reprint of my old one!) I can't accept to lose the second dreadknight, too! have you any suggestion?

(I'm actually working on a true Draigowing, only Tigurius allied and lot of paladins, jumping everywhere on the battlefield... but I can't split fire, and that's a huge problem, or I can split fire adding Inquisition in my force, but i'll lose Tigurius giving eternal warrior to paladins, and I need it to add survivability to the main paladin force)...

May the will of The Emperor be with you.

If the Grey Knights are your primary detachment you need a minimum of two troop choices. Also, more bodies equals survivability. Your current list only hosts twenty-one models. I'm also concerned that you don't have enough troop choices to hold of objectives. You would be forced to table your opponent before he tables you, or you'll lose due to low victory points at the end of the game.

When running Dreadknights, I advise equipping hammers instead of greatswords, they are cheaper and have the conclusive special rule. But I'd consider dropping the Dreadknights for 20 more PAGK with four incinerators.

NSF requires only one Troops choice brother Nineteen. I think the list is ok, seeing that he's aimng at a Draigostar build. if you get the right spells that unit will be soaking up a lot of damage while eliminating one/two enemy units a turn. I'd leave the Stromraven at home (the locator beacon does not work with gate of infinity), and add another SS unit, ten man with 2 incins or a termy unit (you'll need all the warpcharges you can get).

Also, 5 centurions is overkill and a waste of points. I'd say go for 4 or even three. That'll free some points for more GK goodness.

On my last tournament, I asked about the use of the locator beacon to a judge of my country (Italy) since I was beginning to think to a new draigowing, and He said to me that locator beacon can be used with GoI, while Teleport homer can't (this because LocBea says "units arriving via deep strike", TelHom says "units arriving via deep strike FROM RESERVES"), maybe judges from other countries think different, but I'm sure in italian national team tournament I can use StormRaven for GoI... but I'll take 3 centurions, I'm pretty sure you're right about centurions to be a waste of points, and I'm scared of close combat, so I'm gonna find a way to protect them from Space wolves, Nyds and Blood Angels...
By the way, that's my project about a full original Draigowing, same concept as before:

HQ
libby lv3

ELITE
10x PALADINS, 4 psicannon, (nartecium or 2 hammer?)

TROOPS
5x PAGK

FAST
Stormraven + Locator beacon

Heavy
Nemesis dreadknight, PT, Heavy psicannon, hammer

LoW
Draigo

Inquisition

Coteaz (man, shooting 14-man unit to someone DSing near you is priceless...)
OMI (terminator armour, psicannon, 1 servo skull (for turn one GoI) and liber hereticus (use split fire or counter attack on main force)

more or less same concept, less firepower, more close combat power, more gk!

I've chosen a low body count to give less kill point to my adversaries (in our country we play a mixed format with maelstrom objectives, kill point and objective point, all in one), so to take one they must kill my big, strong and scary draigostar, while PAGK tend to die easily, and, since I'm not keeping a lot of objectives, i need mobility for maelstorm, and to take more kill point than the ones i give my enemy... that's the idea!
which you prefer? centurion powerlist or the True GK list, fluffy and solid as a rock?
anyway i thank all of you for your advices, past and futures.
Danke battle-brothers, hope to hear from you soon!

I discussed the same with some TOs and here's their train of thought:
- GoI removes the unit from play. It does not put them in reserve, nor does it grant the deep strike rule to the unit
- To actually arrive by DS, the entire unit must have the deep strike rule and it must be put in reserve.
- Considering both points above, the Locator Beacon does not work with GoI since the unit is never put in reserve once the blessing comes into effect, nor it is grant d the deep strike rule.

I find this quite logical, if not a bit obscure, but actually the DS rule is really well written and this reasoning is quite easy to come by.

Hope it helps!

thank you, i'll talk with my TO, informing him of this...
in that case, i'll put a dreadknight and 3 servo skulls on my OMI, what you think?
