Grey Knights Observations...... Empty Grey Knights Observations......

Post by Maximus Fri Jan 09, 2015 4:39 am

Happy New Year Brothers,
Hope you all had a good Christmas and a not so heavy New Year celebration.

To kick off the New Year I just had to share some interesting and amusing information I came across,
As you may have seen towards the later part of last year I got back into 40K with 7th Edition and Grey Knights of course. When our first book came out back in 2011 life took some seriously severe curve balls, as I'll bet many of us experienced, and as I explained in my re intro Grey Knights and the hobby had to take a back seat. However it never stopped me from keeping in touch and reading all that was going on Grey Knights wise.

Here in the Uk as many of you brothers will know, Beasts of War did Grey Knights Week back in 2011, which I found very informative, amusing and generally good fun. I see they fairly recently got into a pissing contest with GW and do very little 40K nowadays, but thats another discussion.

On returning to Grey Knights and 40K I went on a bit of a Grey Knights information crusade. LOL. This amazing forum of course, other internet resources and of course the obligitary Youtube. Jay from Mini wargaming did a great 5 set of videos as well as there being quite an array of other reviews. His I found the most useful to basically summarise the new Codex, but then I came across that Irish chap Darrel from former Beasts of War who had started up his own youtube channel. Suffice to say his review of our beloved Grey Knights was damn right insulting at best and pretty much ignored everything he had to say. To be perfectly honest for someone who claims to be a big 40K fan I have not seen someone so anti Everything 40K. He literally slags off everything, I mean whats the point?

This is his link if you guys did not see it yet:-

So now I was rather perturbed at seeing this as you can imagine having read a lot on our very own forum here, what you guys made of the new codex along with great reviews on youtube. I then started taking a keen interest in battle reports both here on our forum and on youtube. Well to cut a long story short I then had the most enormous grin on my face as to how much kick ass we Grey Knights were dishing out.

I then caught site of this article by Bell of Lost Souls just this morning titled:- How to kill Draigostar. The next sentence really made me puff my chest out with pride:-

"Want to know how to take down the most feared Deathstar in the game? Step right in..."

Hmmm..... Seems to me they take us pretty serious too!!! This is the link to that article for your reading.

My message to Darrel..............So Grey Knights are going to be Shit are they????

Speaking for myself as I read indepth more and more about our codex and 7th Edition, and more importantly assemble and do battle with my Grey Knights I come to one conclusion:-

It is an honour to be part of this brotherhood and I am having so much fun on my return to 40K. Thanks for all you do on this forum brothers and long may we continue to kick butt!!!!

Darrel has been down the spiral for quite sometime now. I thought his big failure in Kickstarter was enough to settle him down but alas there's always youtube...

On GK yeah I'm liking them a lot. Purifiers are the best and I field them everytime I can. Other than that I too am glad to be part of the brotherhood (the third brotherhood btw Very Happy Razz ).

Brilliant reflections brother, and thank you for sharing those links (I will wach them later)
There will never be a consensus on how good or bad any edition or codecies are, but it is refreshing to see a well thought out positive post. Thank you.

I am always impressed and proud of our little community here on Titan! We can make our points and share our opinions without the flaming/trolling/bickering which is common place on other forums. Let's keep this positive note going throughout the new year, and keep i stilling fear and terror into those foolish enough to stand against the Grey Knights!!!

Thanks Brother Constantine. Its been my experience in wargaming that most forums get infected by the idiots you refer to in your post and to be quite frank I am sick of people bleating and complaining. My 40k experience thus far has been exciting, refreshing and best of all.........Fun!!!! I've found a great independent retailer for good prices on GW models. Going with Grey Knights as a small Elite " Spec Ops" type army means Im not spending an enormous amount. This time around Im only getting the models I know I'll need. GW has done some real big cost saving starter boxes recently so well done to them. The one for us Grey Knights I think is one of the best I've seen and super pleased I got it when it came out. I think the codex is great as is 7th Edition. Life is too short to keep bitching and moaning. Most importantly Im getting in some great gaming and socialising not only at my local game club but at the GW shop too. Couldnt ask for more really. As for you chaps...erhmm excuse me, Brothers, this forum has been the best out there by far hands down and I have learned so much already so cant thank the brothers enough.

Brother Donfer would you go Purifiers over Strike squads? Big question I know as it always comes down to points in our army but I would really like to get a perspective on the pros and cons between the two choices. I currently have 3 by 5man Squads of Power Armour Knights as what came in my starter box set. Look forward to hear from you.

Purifiers are great this edition but of course you have to pay the price, they are expensive too. I like them since they are an all araound unit with CC focus, that can actually deal efficiently with hordes and infantry. They need support, and in that regard are hard to include in a pure GK list. The fact that they are elites does not help a lot. But as allies, they can become MVPs. Add to that that Crowe is a Indep Char. and you've got a very focused force with excelent psychic capabilities. Agaisnt the SS I don't see them competing since SS comprise 50% of our Troops choices, so while SS are much weaker than purifiers, you need to include SS in order to comply with detachement  obligations.

I'd say Purifiers don't shine that much in a pure GK force but as allies I'd take them anytime. that is not to say they don't have a place. I still have to tinker with a full infantry, termi free list. Let's see how that fairs. Hope it helps!

Much appreciated, I actually have a small but growing detachment of ultramarines with Stormtalons as close air support. Purifiers may well be suited to ally with these men. Forgive my noobie ignorance on those abbreviations. What is CC and MVP? SS I worked out!!! LOL and i dont mean the Swastika banner nuts!!!!

No worried Brother Maximus.

CC is Close Combat
MVP is Most Valuable Player

Thanks brother Maximus for sharing those links and your insights. Like you, Life had dished me several curve balls that has taken me away from the hobby. Just recently came back myself and still getting caught up on 7th Ed and our codex.
