Draigowing - How to wrap up my list at 1500, 1750 and 1850?

Post by SteelTitan on Sat Nov 16, 2013 3:00 am

Hey guys,

As some of you might know because of my painting log, I'm working on a Draigowing army. However, I never really wrapped up the army list properly.
So the core of the army is this:

Draigo
Coteaz
IN: 10 Paladins with 4x P.cannon, 3x Hammer, 5x Halberd, 1x Stave, 1x Banner

2x N. Dreadknight with H. Incinerator, Personal Teleporter and N.Greatsword

Total points: 1570

Now, to make it 1750, I threw in:
2x Paladin with 1x Halberd, 1x Hammer, 2x Master-Crafted (leftover points)
1x Paladin with 1x Halberd, Master-Crafted (leftover points)

Although I see the utility of Solodins, the above choice does not seem to be the optimal thing to do. However, models in this army are just so many points it becomes difficult to simply add units.

So my questions are these:

1) How can I skim down the list to 1500?
2) How can I add to the above core to have a solid 1750?
3) What would you add to bump it up to 1850?

Your feedback would be much appreciated!

I Love the Paladins Drenknight List
Here is a 1750 I've Used
HQ-Draigo
T1-Paladinsx10
MC Psycannonsx4
Apothecary
CCWeps Hammers Halberds and Swords Mixed that's an even 1000 right there
T2-Paladinsx5
MCPsycannonsx2
Warding Stave
H1-NDK
HI,GSword,PT
E1-Vindicare(never leave home with out one)

You could drop the Vindicare and Warding stave
and be able to add 3 more paladins if u want a more "Pure Draigo Wing"

Thanks for your input!

I would like to use my two NDKs, at least in anything 1750+. To scale it down, would you rather drop the Teleporter or the H. Incinerator?

Also, would you recommend using the 10+5 format (paladins) for Draigowing at all times /sizes?

The assassin would be a very cool unit to use too!

Whats your opinion on the inquisitor with skulls vs coteaz?

Thanks again!

not seeing the point of coteaz personally. Without the skulls your deepstriking units have to trust they don't scatter.

The big problem with draigowing is no anti-air.

Technically a vindicare could drop things out of the sky, with his 4D6 penetration and ability to reroll due to High BS....

Whenever I read "Draigo wing" I always think pure GK.
What about incorporating a Psydread, or an Aegis defence line into a paladin list to take care of flyers?

Yes, I am -at this time- sticking to pure GK. While I think the GK codex is interesting enough for me to expand it beyond Draigowing (i.e. pure GK) at a later date, I have too many projects on the shelf to lose focus already.

I like the idea of Psydreads but I don't think it would be possible for me to find points? I'm not too keen on dropping the Knights considering I have two and never played with them yet ;)hehe.

I will play around with Coteaz and drop him for a regular Inquisitor with Skulls if needed. I like the idea of not scattering.

***************************************************************

For 1500, I can just take the core mentioned in my first post:

Draigo
Coteaz
IN: 10 Paladins with 4x P.cannon, 3x Hammer, 5x Halberd, 1x Stave, 1x Banner

2x N. Dreadknight with H. Incinerator, Personal Teleporter and N.Greatsword

Total points: 1570

And drop one Teleporter from one of the Knights.
***************************************************************

At 1750:

+ Teleporter on Dreadknight
+ 2x1 Solodins
+ 70 points left

Or

+ Teleporter on Dreadknight
+ Vindicare
+ 35 points left

Or

+ Teleporter on Dreadknight
+ Dreadnought with 2xTL A-Cannons
+ 45 points left

I wonder if and at which point I should aim to add another group of 5 Paladins.

Thanks for that. I have enough paladins to try that out! Im surprised to see the hammers on the Knights tho...i thougt those were widely regarded as the worst of the available options?

I had 20 points left over. you could take 2 heavy psycannons instead but I think the torrent of the incinerator is better than the large blast of the psycannon.

Daemon hammer on the DK is not very useful, better use the sword, it's expensive but really worth the points.

I like the pure GK list.
There is a thread on the NDK if you are interested.

Re: Draigowing - How to wrap up my list at 1500, 1750 and 1850?

Post by SteelTitan on Thu Dec 12, 2013 1:37 pm

I finally figured it out! Well, at least for now because...I have my first battle coming up!
This weekend I will visit my brother and surprise him with my new army! He already mentioned I should bring 1500 and 1850 lists and next to my CSM, I will be bringing my DW!

At 1500, I will try:

Draigo
10 Paladins (4xp.cannon,3xhammer,1xstave,1xbanner,p.bolt ammo)
2x Nemesis D.Knight (personal teleporter, H.Incinerator, Sword)

At 1850, I added:

+ Coteaz
+ 2x1 Solodin
+ Vindicare Assassin

To bring it down to 1750, I can either drop Coteaz or the Solodins.
It's probably a bit rough but let's take if for a spin and see what happens.

My brother is currently playing daemons so that's probably what I will be facing at least once (Fateweaver, GUO, 3x Flying Nurgle Princes, Horrors and Plaguebearers), so that's either terrible or good. Little shooting, CC oriented while I have force weapons...

Re: Draigowing - How to wrap up my list at 1500, 1750 and 1850?

Post by SteelTitan on Wed Dec 18, 2013 1:01 pm

So, the weekend has come and gone. Time to let you guys know how my first games were!

The first game we played was the above 1500 point list. I was going up against a Daemon flying circus list with a GUO, 3 flying Nurgle DPs, 2x10 Plague Bearers and 10 Horrors.

I've never played against the list and the amount of cover saves (2+ cover anyone  Neutral ) with Nurgle is insane. Luckily though, I rolled up Perfect Timing (I think it's called?) which makes the shots ignore cover. That and Presience.

We played a three mission game where primary was kill points (yay me!) for 12 points, second was table quarters (6 points) and tertiary was (5x) objectives (6 points). This in addition to the usual slay the warlord, linebreaker and first blood (all 2 each).

Just some highlights
1) He cast hallucination on my Dreadknight turn one, rolls up a 6. The Dreadknight stabs himself and force-weapons himself to death.
2) At the critical point, where the second Dreadknight will either clear the right flank of 10 Plaguebearers and Horrors (getting charged by the PBs and then being able to charge the Horrors in my next turn), the PB cause four wounds on the Knight. At that point, I have two wounds remaining. I roll two 1s, the DK dies.
3) Despite this, I do kill the GUO, and two Daemon Princes so I win kill points.
4) Because of some bad positioning on my part, he wins quarters (I could have walked Draigo onto another table half).
5) He wins objectives because of my DK dying. I only have the two in the middle (one by the Paladins and one by the scoring Draigo).
6) He has linebreaker and first blood (force-weaponed DK) and I have slay the warlord
Total score: GK 14 / Daemons 16

All in all, really not a bad showing for my first game ever with the list. With a little bit more luck I could have won it. Luck and better play because of table quarters and better positioning overall. Having that said though, his list was kind of Daemon-light because it's designed with Faithweaver in mind, which isn't doable in 1500.

The second game with the list was 1850. I did not use the list above because I just added Coteaz and a Stormraven to the 1500 list. He had a Raven standing around and I wanted to try it out.
This game was against Tyranids, a list based on the rumoured changes (4d6 spawn without not stopping on doubles). The Nids brought 2 HQ  Tervigons, 3 Troop Tervigons, 90 mandatory gaunts and 3 Venomthropes.

Short story short, we only managed to play until turn 3 and it was pretty clear i would be wiped completely by then. By turn three however, I still had 1x2 and 1x5 paladins left, Draigo and both Dreadknights. Some highlights:

* On turn one, 90% of his table half was literally filled with Gaunts. He spawned 70-100 Gaunts a turn.
* 3-4 Enfeebles a turn on Paladins and then getting insta-killed by Fleshborers suck!

I kinda like the Stormraven, but it's probably not the best addition to bump up the 1500 to 1850, without going off the theme.

All in all, very fun games and shows me two extremes when playing Draigowing (low model count CC army like the daemons and the numerous crappy Nids) and the benefits and drawbacks of both matchups for Draigowing.

I will leave you guys with a picture Smile

Sounds like it was a great learning experience. At least you came REALLY close to smashing the Daemons. 90 + gaunts sounds like a nightmare!!! I bet you wish you had incinerators.

Re: Draigowing - How to wrap up my list at 1500, 1750 and 1850?

Post by SteelTitan on Wed Dec 25, 2013 7:53 am

I have been a good boy this year so Santa brought me a Stormraven! I wasn't sure whether this flyer should be part of my standard list but now that I have it, I want to use it!

So, adding to the solid 1490 point list:

+ Coteaz (100)
+ Stormraven (TL MM, TL A.Cannons, Hurrican Bolters, Psy.Ammo) (255)

One thing I am thinking about now, is adding a squad of 3 Warrior Acolytes (12) for in the Storm Raven. Points for this can be gained by dropping the Warding Stave...I'm not too convinced on that any way. I can then even add another squad of 3 to keep in reserve and take hold of some objective late game.

This is of course not very good in kill point mission where shooting down the raven then gives up 2 KP and 3 guard-like models aren't hard to shoot off the table, even when trying to hide them.

However, even with the two small squads, the list only has 8-9 kill points, which isn't a lot.

What do you think?
