back into 40k with 1k of GKs Empty back into 40k with 1k of GKs

Im looking to get back into 40K and am looking for an army that is forgiving and would be good to get back up to speed with, and looking around some forums the GKs seem what I am looking for (plus I like the look of the models). I was wondering whether this would be viable for a 1k force:

HQ
OM Inquisitor in termi armour (daemon hammer and psycannon)

TROOPS
5x termis (psybolt ammo, 4x daemonhammer & 1x psycannon)
5x termis (psybolt ammo, 4x daemonhammer & 1x psycannon)
5x termis (psybolt ammo, 4x daemonhammer & 1x psycannon)

HS
Dreadknight (doomfist & heavy psycannon)


OR

HQ

forgiving and GK at low points costs? not sure that goes together lol. welcome back to 40k.

1000 points really isn't that much to play with especially if you're going pure GK route.

I like your first list, but you could redirect your points on your Dreadknight and equip him with a Personal Teleporter, Heavy Incinerator, and Great Sword.

The Great Sword effectively grants you all the benefits of 2 close combat weapons with the bonuses of rerolls To-Hit, To-Wound, and Armor Penetration. This improves the deadliness of your Dreadknight dramatically. The Personal Teleporter will add more versatility to him by enabling 12-inch movement and a one time 30-inch jump.  

Your points will start teetering over 1K but will get you that much closer to 1500 points.

so do you think it would be worth getting a bit more and going for 1500pts? If i swapped the HQ for a Librarian and upgraded the Dreadknight it would take me to 1160pts.

1500 gives you a lot more flexibility.

Paladins are only worth the points in either small numbers (a single squad to form a mini deathstar with HQ) or a lot with Grandmaster making them scoring like troops. but they are expensive. Alternatively normal terminators are cheaper...

Thats a LOT of daemon hammers. 6th edition is more about shooting than CC and so its not worth paying the points for 4 of them in a 5 man strike squad, 1 max I'd say.
