Ok I have played two 5th edition games with Grey Knights 600pts and 750pts. The 600 pts was a draw and the 750pts was Space Marines destroying me.

Now from what I have learnt in both games scoring units are the key and well we are pretty tough in close combat also dreads can die on the first shot of the game and Brother Captain is rubbish on his own and needs a retinue.

So here is a 750pts list I think is competive and could work. I will try and get down the shop some time this week and try it out.

Grand Master with psycannon (Main long range anti armour, not the best but should deal with most stuff with some good roles)

Justicar plus 6 PAGK (scoring unit in most games)

Justicar plus 6 PAGK (scoring unit in most games)

Justicar plus 5 PAGK (scoring unit in most games, but you could switch it to a Fast Attck squad should you get annihilation and it stops being a scoring unit but can get to the vehicles quickly)

Good idea going for more models than equipment. In those small games it's very important. If it were me I would change the GM to a BC and get some terminators just to get more firepower out on the field. Anyone bringing out something a storm bolter can't take out from the rear is going to be much lower on troops.

Articus I take you suggestion onboard and would do it but a Hero must take 3 GKT with it which means 138pts, plus the BC means 199 pts so I feel it is better to have the GM on his own than a BC on his own plus 2 extra PAGK, just my point of view with a bad experience with a BC on his own and a good experience of a GM on his own.

Spartan, were you using your BC solo or attaching him to a unit of PAGK's the last two games? A GM to me is way too expensive at this points level. I do like the number of PAGK's you're fielding though they lack any heavy weapons.

Nemesis first game I fielded him on his own, it was a 600 pts game.

Second game I fielded a GM in 750 pts on his own.

I have come up with another idea and that is this:
BC
3 squads of Justicar plus 7 PAGK

Total points 736 so a little left over for equipment.

My idea is this thats 3 points scoring troops but I could switch one of the squads to a Fast Attack and drop them in to attack armour in CC which I could also do in the first list with the smaller squad.

The worry I have is the BC is a waste of 61 points as he could die quick where as I think the GM will last a bit longer and kill his worth before he goes.

My thoughts are 2 out of 3 games are objective based so is prob best do have more chances of getting them and to do that you need troops. The only real danger things if I keep the opo at a long range is missle launchers and lascannons but you prob not see many of them for 750pts.

You'll definitely have to keep the BC attached at all times. Running the GM solo is quite a risk as well. One lascannon or melta shot and he's insta-toast. I like your last list much better. Give one squad a 'cinnie maybe and some frags/targeters for the Justicars.

Thanks for all your comments brothers.

What I am going to do is see if the guy down my local GW shop who spanked me with his Space Marines will play 2 games back to back identical in everyway except I will play the 2 dif lists and see which fars better.

Prob will not be till next week but I will post my findings.

I like the idea of playing back to back games to try out new formations. However, you will need to keep in mind that different opponants will have different Strengths/weaknesses than each other. So even though one list may perform better against this foe, it might not fair so well against a different opponant.

Hopefully the back to back games will give you some insight into play styles that can be applied regardless of the army's formation.
