Orbital Strike Relays
Well, with psibolt ammo making a comeback with 6th, I have reread the codex a few times and with the popularity of manticores at my local gaming store, I have started trying out orbital strike relays. Attaching a GM to a strike squad who is holding the rearmost obj. makes sense. I have had mixed results with him, but being able to have a character that can participate in the fight the whole game and threaten enemy hordes with the barrage or vehicles with the lance strike. Works wonders with prescience and perfect timing.

I like the principle/fluff component of the OSR - calling in heavy artillery from off-map assets etc.
I'm tempted to try Karamazov using Thawn (if/when his cohort gets wiped out) as the target for OSR. For nothing if only to see the look on my opponents face as I pin-point a lance onto Thawn in b2b with some 5849583 MC or vehicle.
Enemy evaporates, Thawn gets up and dusts his shoulder off?

So, OSR + prescience and/or perfect timing...sounds like a really good combo

LOL! That reminds me of the THQ Dawn of War game where Gabriel called down an orbital strike. First time I used it everyone moved out of the way before it came down!

I used a lance strike to take out 4 or 5 deathwing termies, I wish my warpquake would have gone off that turn thogh.

Re: Orbital Strike Relays
The Orbital Strike Relay is a good weapon (it is the High Strength low A.P template for our army, unless you want to take allies), it just requires a lot of setup and units to make it work, eg a H.Q or Elite choice (armed with the relay) with a Psyker with the right spells sitting in a unit to protect them, or Karamazov with dreadknights or other tough units to take the hit. It will be used in friendly games but will see little use in the tournament.

I like that idea I usually throw it ona tech in the back with my dreads that way he can OSR or repair as needed
I ve had a lot of luck with the OSR especially when I play my bud with IG can lance if needed but I usually don't need to IG is soft enough for other blast

That sounds like an efficient way to use OSR.
I am wondering what everyones opinions are on the best way to use OSR.... With a GM, =][=, Techmarine...?

So Thawn carries an OSL targeting device and Karamazof calls it down on him?
Does some one have to be targeted, or can you pick a spot? I seem to remember something about picking an area before the game begins That may have been several editions ago though

Karazimov can target any friendly model with his relay - if he does so the blast won't scatter.
I Believe he can fire at units engaged in combat too as this is where the tactic will be best used.

Yes it was the last codex, I personaly think that this one hit more (unless you take Karazimov).Constantine wrote:So Thawn carries an OSL targeting device and Karamazof calls it down on him?

I think Karazimov is about the only way to use the orbital strike. Never scatter, fire it at terminators (dont use the lance) or Dreadknights (lance can be used here as you will not kill it if it has more then one W left).
It can only be usefull with the scatter against large armies like guard, orks or nids with the way it scatters. And not good in small games as there will be less models on the board and therefore even less chance to hit.

Is Karazimov the only way to take it, or just the best because of his no scatter ability?

GMs, Bro captains and techmarines can also take them, but with always scattering, and in the cases of the bro cap or Gm being karamazov priced you may as well take him instead.

Ally with a group of Sisters and use them as targets... That would be the most fluffy use of Karamazov's power. Not that I know a whole lot of fluff, but the overarching theme seems to be that any time a GK gets so much as a hangnail, an entire SoB squad gets killed by Grey Knights.

That definitely seems to be the case with this Karamazov fellow judging from the background I have been able to dig up on him.

Where did you guys find this fluff (page number), haven't run across it yet, but sometimes reading the fluff in a codex makes me feel like I've driven for hours and then get there and I don't remember and hour in the middle.

Re: Orbital Strike Relays
The irony is i'm not sure if his 'by any means necessary' ability (to target one of his own) would work with allies!
Special rules only translate for battle brothers, allies of convenience would mean he has no compunction about killing GK but SoB or any other ally, he would decline the opportunity - according to the rules anyway.
Maybe someone with the BrB can confirm this suspicion.
