Preping for Space Wolves (and any others) 2000pt list

Post by w0lfgang7 on Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:46 am

Still learning the local meta, but I know that my first battle will be against space wolves. I also know that they'll be expecting my old Eldar army, so this should be fun! 2 FOC in each list. In both lists, deathstar and dreadknights can deepstrike.

LIST 1:

HQ1 = 175 - Librarian, the shrouding, sanctuary, quicksilver, might of titan, psybolt ammo. Join paladins.
HQ2 = 119 - Ordo M Inquisitor, Term armor, psyker, psycannon, 3 servo skulls (roll on div and take prescience) Join Paladins

Elite1 = 635 - PaladinX10, 4 psycannon, psybolt ammo, Brotherhood Banner, 3 hammers, 3 halberds, 3 swords

Troop1 = 240 - Strike SquadX10, 2 Psycannon, Psybolt ammo
Troop2 = 240 - Strike SquadX10, 2 Psycannon, Psybolt ammo
Troop3 = 110 - Strike SquadX5, psycannon
Troop4 = 110 - Strike SquadX5, psycannon

Heavy1 = 185 - Dreadknight, incinerator, greatsword
Heavy2 = 185 - Dreadknight, incinerator, greatsword
===========
1999points (44 models including 2 monstrous creatures)

(OPTION FOR LIST 1: Swap Grand Master for Librarian and use grand strategy to make Paladins and 1-2 Dreadknights troops. Downside is the loss of Quicksilver and Might of Titan).

LIST 2:

HQ1 = 175 - Librarian, the shrouding, sanctuary, quicksilver, might of titan, psybolt ammo. Joins paladins.
HQ2 = 119 - Ordo M Inquisitor, Term armor, psyker, psycannon, 3 servo skulls (roll on div and take prescience) Joins Paladins
HQ3 = 100 - Coteaz (deploy in ADL, roll on div and take prescience and hope for perfect timing or misfortune) <--Warlord

Elite1 = 635 - PaladinX10, 4 psycannon, psybolt ammo, Brotherhood Banner, 3 hammers, 3 halberds

Troop1 = 57 - Warrior AcolyteX3, Razorback
Troop2 = 57 - Warrior AcolyteX3, Razorback
Troop3 = 63 - Warrior AcolyteX3, Razorback with psybolt ammo & SL
Troop4 = 63 - Warrior AcolyteX3, Razorback with psybolt ammo & SL
Troop5 = 63 - Warrior AcolyteX3, Razorback with psybolt ammo & SL
Troop6 = 63 - Warrior AcolyteX3, Razorback with psybolt ammo & SL

Troop7 = 135 - 2 Jokaero, 3 Servitor with Hvy Bolter, 5 Warrior Acolyte with Storm Bolter (deploy in ADL with Coteaz)

Heavy1 = 185 - Dreadknight, incinerator, greatsword
Heavy2 = 185 - Dreadknight, incinerator, greatsword

Fort.1 = 100 - Aegis Defense Line with Quad Gun
===========
2000points (43 models including 2 MC, 6 vehicles, 1 fortification)

(OPTION FOR LIST 2: Drop the two 57 point Razorbacks, add in Strike SquadX5 with psycannon; also drop 1 SL and give OMI psybolt ammo).

Thoughts and critiques welcome! Thanks.

Double FOC i'm assuming? The second list has 3 HQ's and 7 Troops.

I think the cost of your Palladins might be a little low - did you factor in the banner and psybolt?

I like the firepower from the transports in the second list. But prefer Strike squads to score.

To reduce the chances of scatter from deepstriking you could combine the lists and add mystics.

GM
Cortaez

10 x Palladins (armed as above)

10 x Strike squad (2 psycannon)
5 x Strike squad (1 psycannon)
2 x Acolyte's / 1 x Mystic / Razorback (psyammo)
2 x Acolyte's / 1 x Mystic / Razorback (psyammo)
2 x Acolyte's / 1 x Mystic / Razorback (psyammo)
2 x Acolyte's / 1 x Mystic / Razorback (psyammo)
2 x Acolyte's / 1 x Mystic / Razorback (psyammo)

Dreadknight (incinerator / sword)
Dreadknight (incinerator / sword)

49 models 1990pts (dont have the codex so not 100% but I think your Palladin squad comes to 675pts)

Exactly 50/50 split for reserve:

5 Razor / mystic units + Cortaez start on the table and gain position for the deepstrike. Total 6 units

Palladins + GM, both Strike squads and the Dreadknights in reserve - ready for their non scattering deepstike. 6 units

Cortaez would prob jump out and join the Palladins on their arrival to give them prescience. The Strike squads could potentially steal the Acolyte's rides late game should they need to (if you have any transports left) I might be tempted (situation depending) to combat squad the 10 man Strike squad on arrival so you had 3 x 5 to sure up objectives. It also gives you the option of placing both psycannon's in one unit for tank hunting and using the other 5 men purely for anti-infantry should you need.

The Razor's could provide your Dreadknights with a cover save when they come in whilst you fire over the tanks with your heavy incinerator.

7 troops choices so this would have to be a double FOC game. Everything has the potential to score.

Just another slant on what you already have in your list's

I'd say go with the scond list. But Double FOC, is not something I would recommend.

Anyways, I'd say drop the Inquisitor and one 7th troops choice. And as in your first list swap the librarian for a GM. You've got your librarian not for shooting but for buffing you Paladin unit even further, which in reality they don't need it that much. Give the GM a psycannon and attach it to the paladin squad (more psycannon fun). For the paladins I'd drop a Warding stave in there as well for CC, they'll need it. Perhaps also letting the banner go. I'm not convinced that +1 attack is that useful in a 10 man 3-attacks-on-the-charge-force-weapons-hammerhandx2-squad. One wound that gets through is enough to kill most of the enemies they face.

Coteaz can ride with the paladin squad or remain in the ADL, but I think he's better off with the paladins. Prescience and Perfect timing is a deadly combination if you get them together.

Use the remaning points for psyboltammo on all 6 RBs, and perhaps using plasma acolytes would also be nice (terminator killers).

If you have poits to spare, try to give one of your NDKs a Personal Teleporter. That'll help mobility of your list and prevent them from staying behind and never reach combat.

Hope it helps!

Cost of Paladins as listed is correct (includes psycannons, BB, psy-bolt)

Hate to loose quicksilver, but I like the suggestions. Also wasn't sure about losing SS for scoring units in list two, so this may be a good way forward!

Hmmm, unless I'm misunderstanding the codex.

Hmmm, unless I'm misunderstanding the codex. It states, "two Paladins may replace their storm bolters with one of the following" I always thought that meant you paid the cost once for the two Paladins. So you would pay for your one choice allowed from the list and give that to the two paladins (since they must have the same thing). Do you have to pay for each one seperately? Thanks!

The codex does state "...20 points per model" so there's no way around it: the fee is per cannon, sadly Sad

Edit - the choice is also made individually, so no need to take two of the same unless you want to Razz

Ah, got it. Thanks! So yeah, I'm a bit light on my costs above. 675 is correct.

I would look at taking a G.M or Draigo if you are taking Palidins as my brothers have stated above, you cannot tie up that many points without haveing them score. Also most wolf armies are going to be drop poding onto the field so strike squads are helpfull there, so I would go for a mix of the 2 with a Grand master (or Draigo), Coteaz, 2 strike squads with razor support, palidins and then the henchemen and dreadknights.

The plasma guns in the 3 man henchman squads worry me. You aren't carrying them in enough numbers to make a significant dent with the AP2 shot (even rapid firing) and you are in serious danger of killing yourself firing it and causing yourself to fail morale and fall back in your own shooting phase. I would change them to melta-guns as it's safer.

Or better still:
If you eliminated all 4 plasma guns and replaced them with stormbolters you would save 32 points.

If you took off the psybolt ammo from the 10 man SS as well you could then afford to get the 5 man SS a Razorback and them and Cortaez could ride together amongst all the others.

Meaning you would have 5 Razors on the table at the start and a GM, 10 Palladns, 10 Strikes and 2 Dreadknights to deepstrike.

It just seems to make sense to have everything in transports from the off and to be deepstriking in the lions share.

Nice Domin4trix, You could also drop the Bro banner instead of the psybolts on the strike, just an option, but when you have a 10 man squad, not in a rhino you want to get the best out of their shooting, the banner is good against some opp, S5 stormbolters are good against all.
