Rhinos or Razorbacks?
Hi folks,
As per the topic title, and specifically with regards to Purifiers, are Rhinos or Razorbacks preferable?
Or is it situational?
Cheers,
jb

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
Depends if you know your are going to combat squad or not. If so then a razorback is better. You know you are always going to fit 5 in there and may aswell get a mobile weapons platform. Rhino is for 10 man squads taking mid field. Don't expect your transport and weapon platforms to last past turn 3 unless you use cover and LoS.

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
If however you are buying the kit. Get the razorback
Specific kit ALWAYS!!! <<< ALWAYS becuase it cost the same as the "rhino" kit and you can build both. Where as the rhino kit.... You can only ever build the rhino... Plus all those spare bits u get in the razorback kit you can always use for kit bashing or other things.

I disagree (respectfully ! ) with brother Arratak : i personally perfer using the Rhino : 2 fire points so 4 or 8 psycannon shots per turn... it's better than the weapons of the RZB imho.
for the kit, on the contrary i totally agree with Brother Arratak : buy the Rzb kit (slightly more expensive in France) so you can mount both !

Dude... Read what I said... Rhino for 10 man, razorback for combat squads. The 4 psycannons you are clearly going to leave in a ruin somewhere near you line. Razor back transport the other 5 dudes... With stormbolters and force weapons to another objective. With a mobile weapon platform.

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
and ?
for a 5 men squad... what is the advantage of the rzb compared to the rhino ??
I do believe that even 1 psycannon is better than 1 lascan or the combi melta-plasma...

If you are looking at crow spam then normaly the razors are a better buy. Neither can be assulted out of, both have to only move at up to 6" to alow you to even get out of, so you will be getting more shooting out of a razor and a squad for 2 turns before assult (that is if you are makeing the assult). Rhinos are better when running squads over 6 men, you so not want to be having to combat squad units to ride in there transport in a kill points game. Razors can bring some much needed long range fire to the table in twin linked las and twin linked H.Bolters. The best transport for a 10 man squad of purifiers with 4 psycannons is a Chimera, all 4 psycannons can shoot and armor 12

Thank you all for your input. I'm going to buy the Razorback kit so I can do both.

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
Back to Transport talk!
So in my last game I ran two 10-man GKSSs with Rhinos that were upgraded with a second Storm Bolter and Psybolt Ammo. I combat squadded the GKSSs and put my Psycannons and Justicar inside the Rhinos to protect them, while I shuffled my other 5-man around to get a better vantage (admittedly, I could have just stuffed them in the Rhino, kept them combat-squadded, and disembarked the Psycannon-less Combat Squad when the enemy got close enough to shoot, but there were ruins nearby, and it worked out).
With that preface out of the way, here are some questions:
-Why would you want to rear-redeploy a Psycannon Combat Squad when they only have 24'' range and are easily picked off when you can protect them in a vehicle?
-If using a Rhino, what loadout would you use? I know it's usually a good idea to keep point costs down, but a Rhino with a second Storm Bolter and Psyammo comes out to 55pts, which is only 5points more than a Psyback, can shoot 4 s5 shots, and allow 4/8 Psycannon Shots to shoot as well.

Actually, after you combat squad them, you can't put both of them in the rhino. You can only put 1 inftantry unit and/or any additional Independent Characters that are attached so long as you don't exceed the max transport capacity.

Page 21 – Combat Squads.
Replace with:
“A ten-man unit with this special rule can break down into two
five-man units, called combat squads.
You must decide which units are splitting into combat squads,
and which models go into each combat squad, immediately
before deployment. A unit split into combat squads therefore
is now two separate units for all game purposes including
calculating the total number of units in the army, and the
number of units you can place in reserve. Then proceed with
deployment as normal. Note that two combat squads split from
the same unit can embark in the same transport vehicle,
providing its transport capacity allows.

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
No problem, Brother Riven!
It's really making me look into the use of Rhinos in-lieu of Razorbacks (for 10-man squads). That, and of course, the ability to use the fire points for protected Pyscannon support fire.
I'm still curious about the Rhino upgrades. Do you think buying a second Storm Bolter and Psyammo is a worthy point investment, or am I sinking too many eggs into one basket?

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
IMO, the extra SB and psyammo upgrade is wasted. Like you said, the main purpose is mobility and protection for your squad. If it can kill something w/ its regular SB, then that's a bonus
The extra points can go somewhere else more useful. My two cent...

Re: Rhinos or Razorbacks?
I preference the rhino for more flexibility over the unit inside, anything that makes the unit get where it wants to without hindering it's abilities or capacity is better than an added gun I could find somewhere else to put.
I personally think purifiers are better on foot and only using the rhino as a shield. That way they are of less of a target and more likely to get where they do the best.
