Broadside Bash 2000pt list

Post by Rivan on Fri Jan 18, 2013 1:19 pm

Participating in my first GT this year and it will be on April 6-7. Enough time for me to finish painting my army and compete for Best Appearance Smile

The list is designed to be "themed" rather than a power list. But I think it is still a competitive list vs. all comers (maybe except vs. a flyer-heavy list like 12 vendettas or what not).

HQ - GM w/ blind, rad & psychotroke grenades; psycannon; 1 servo skull
HQ - OMI w/ TDA, nemesis daemonhammer & psycannon; Psyker
TR - 10 GKT w/ 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, brotherhood banner (2 swords, 4 halberds, 3 hammers)
TR - 10 GKSS w/ 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, 1 halberd (justicar)
FA - 10 GKIS w/ 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, 1 halberd (justicar), 1 hammer
FA - SR w/ TWLAssCan & TWLMM
HS - Dreadnought w/ 2 x TWLAC, psybolt ammo
HS - NDK w/ personal teleporter & heavy incinerator

List comes up to 2000pts on the dot. This is obviously a shooty list and that's what I'll concentrate on doing until CC is inevitable. OMI will trade his GK psychic power for Prescience. Everyone has S5 stormbolters unless they have a psycannon. Dread provides long range fire base while NDK and Interceptors use mobility to engage targets of opportunity and/or harass the enemy's flanks Smile

Its... Well... It's tough. But your strike squad and termies are foot slogging it. With only one dread, how do you intend to open up transports turn 1. And do u have search lights?

I won't be able to do much in Turn 1--I most probably will only have the GKT plus GM and OMI on the board with the Dread. Rest will come in from reserve or DS.
The dread's primary target would be any anti-aircraft gun the enemy has.

I might actually replace the NDK w/ a 2nd SR for more heavy shooting...

I actually like your 1850 list you posted a while back with Coteaz more. Wouldn't it be a bit better to upgrade that list to 2000 points instead? You could get an aegis defense line with a quad gun for more dakadaka. But hey I'm still a noob compared to you Razz

I love that list as well and it actually did very well in 5th Ed. I'd like to continue using paladins but I have to look at revamping the henchmen warband. With overwatch, death cult assassins are not that viable in this edition Smile

Re: Broadside Bash 2000pt list

Post by Rivan on Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:24 pm

@Volvoe: I re-visited my GM/Coteaz list and this is what I'm thinking for a 6th ed version:

GM - Rad, psychotroke, blind grenades; psycannon
Coteaz
10 GKT w/ 2 psycannons, banner, psybolt ammo
10 GKSS w/ 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo
RB w/ TWLLC
10 Henchmen warband (5 DCA, 4 Crusaders, 1 mystic)
RB w/ TWLHB + psybolt ammo
SR w/ TWLMM & TWLAssCan
LRC w/ MM, psybolt ammo
Psyfleman dread

I still have 20pts to spare and am not sure yet what I want to add...
I was also a little ambivalent about the warband unit but after reading the rules again, I think they can still be very effective. With the GM and Coteaz plus 4 crusaders, the unit is quite resilient vs. shooting (including overwatch). The crusaders will all have power axes to give them S4 AP2 power weapons at I1 (I3 isn't really that fast anyway Razz ). The DCA's will still have their I6 AP3 attacks.

Tactica thoughts:
- GM, Coteaz & warband embarked in the LRC
- In 6th ed, psybolt ammo for the LRC is worth it now IMO. Gives me a TWL psycannon equivalent plus since there's no such thing as defensive weapons anymore, the hurricane bolters can always fire (although mostly snap shots if I still have the asscan and the MM)
- GKT will usually DS by homing in on the mystic--immediate backup to the HQ & warband unit. GM can switch units depending on which unit needs support
- GKSS have the option to DS or to combat squad and use the RB's
- Dread provides long range fire support
- RB's add to long range fire support plus optional transport for GKSS
- SR provides aerial support

Re: Broadside Bash 2000pt list

I really like it! The 1 Mystic is pretty secret tech. Twisted Evil I was actually curious why you had 4 Crusaders but putting them with power axes are pretty deadly! Overall I like the synergy of the army. What you could do is add another unit of henchmen instead of the TWLLC. Maybe a Monkey here or two.. Razz But in all honesty it looks pretty good as is. I actually liked your list with the 3 servitors with plasma cannons. With Divination that could prove very deadly. The list also had a Dreadknight with a teleporter and a unit of interceptors I believe? Yeah that was definitely fun because I tested it out (except running Mordrak + Libby). But it seems you've made more of a balanced list of both dakka dakka and close combat destruction! It actually reminds me of the purifier mind set. You have long range support as you go in for close combat. However, that Land raider is going to draw a lot of fire. I usually would like to run it with a techmarine to make the squad and the tank better. He has grenades too! But I see you only have 20 points left to spend...

With the extra 20 you could put Psybolt Ammunition on the Storm Raven. Or add another body to the squad with Coteaz. OR add extra armor to your land raider since you don't want to roll perils or fail your psychic test to repair. And then there's always servo skulls. Servo skulls will help with DS and making them reconsider setting up their infiltrators.. OR you could have your GM have a warding stave.. haha lol! On another note I think you should get the LasPlas back. Rerolling to hit so you don't get hot is pretty good. Plus if your razor back gets a weapon destroyed its a 50% you'll lose the weapon you want.

No matter what you do I think it'll be a fun list to try. I like the tactica on making the GKSS into combat squads. However there are cons.

Against Dark Eldar they could pop your landraider on turn one. Well of course you have night fighting and coversaves but that's just something to consider. I hate playing against them! Any long range shooty army is just going to shoot everything at the land raider which could be quite favorable to us. That being said, line breaker is going to be a problem since the only thing getting you across is a land raider and razorbacks. They're most likely going to move only 6 inches at a time to fire all of their weapons. If there's night fighting you could always pop smoke to make your coversaves even better. But I'm pretty sure you're much more experienced in playing in tournaments. I mean I run Mordrak for Christ's (or the emrah's) sake! Razz

But I would still consider what you're going to be playing against. Maybe someone should make a thread about how match-ups go against what army and what to look out for. Sisters of Battle are going to have St. Celestine which will go wreck havoc on your objectives. A 5 man squad won't be able to do much since she'll keep coming back. That means you'll have to deny their objectives as well. The only fast reacting/moving unit would be the storm raven. Against IG, Space Marine variants, Chaos, CSM, I think we should be fine if not on par. Necrons will be a big problem with their scarabs and deathmarks or any teleporty unit.. Welp that's all I could think of! It's a great list but the center piece is the LRC. With the other list there were so many threats to worry about that it actually played with the minds of newer players. I got someone to send their flyers at angle so that they could take care of all the guys on THEIR side of the table edge! In which they never contested my objectives. But good luck to you brother and thanks for sharing the list!

Hey... With your list can I make a suggestion? Since you aren't all competitive and all... You entire army is in you face! 24" action, even the storm raven becuase it has to move 18" from you board edge. I recconmend, with the psyfle dread. Replace it, and with the 20 pts spare, add another henchman squad inside the raven. Or.... If you wanted to keep the long range fire support, go the unit that I created. 1 jokaero, 3 plasma cannon servitors, 6 psykers and then add coteaz for re rolls!

That gives you,

1 str9 ap2
3 str7 ap2 blasts
1 str8 ap1 large blast.

All with re rolls mind you, so that is far more effective then the psyfle dread for what you want. And it's scoring so you don't have to waste you grand master grand strategy for more scoring units. Instead increase a units dmg output with re rolls of 1's to wound. Or.... Since everything is in your face action. Go a dread with DCCW and 2 heavy Flamers with pay flame ammo. For anti horde/ infantry and support for you 2 CC units. And the reinforced aegis has a greater effect!

Thanks for the feedback Brothers Smile

@Volvoe: Yeah, the LRC will definitely get the brunt of it. Nothing I can do about it. I normally like to run a NDK with it to force my opponent to prioritize targets but I don't have the points to fit a NDK w/ teleporter in.

@Arratak: I was actually considering a close-combat dread transported by the SR. Question: Dread can also use "shadow skies" right? I just hope it doesn't scatter and if it did, that I pass the dangerous terrain test Smile

@Volvoe: I take back what I said Razz I moved the points around and switched out some units to see if I can include a NDK and here's how it looks:

GM w/ rad, psychotroke & blind grenads; psycannon
Coteaz
5 Paladins w/ 2 psycannons
10 GKSS w/ 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo
RB w/ TWLLC
10 Henchmen warband (5 DCA, 4 Crusaders, 1 Mystic)
SR
LRC w/ multi-melta, psybolt ammo
Psyfleman dread
NDK w/ personal teleporter, heavy incinerator, great sword

5 less infantry models but the same no. of wounds plus a tough monstrous creature Smile
I think there's better synergy and support for the LRC w/ jumping NDK beside it Razz

@Rivan I agree! That's a pretty scary list. I like the addition of the Paladins, they won't be scoring but they will be denying objectives! The NDK will definitely draw fire away from the land raider. If he doesn't he'll be stomping on the rest of their army! Oh by the way I just posted my 2k list of Mordrak if you want to take a look.

With GM's grand strategy, the paladins, NDK and dread can all be potentially scoring Smile
