IBEY vs Mawlocs

Post by PurityinFlames on Sat Jan 12, 2013 4:13 pm

We really need an archive of IBEY questions, there seem to be lots of questions posted for this rule

Anywho...

Mawloc bursts out of the ground from reserve underneath Coteaz and his unit...does IBEY trigger first, or does the mawloc gobble up those that it can and THEN Coteaz' IBEY triggers?

Was one I considered today and wasn't sure which way around it'd work

first mawloc, then IBEY. as you have to be on the board in order to be shot at.

Coteaz's ability triggers "as soon as a unit comes within 12"

I will tend to disagree. Since deploying via deep strike requires to place the model on the table, THEN rolling for scatter. So if I understood correctly the play should have gone like this.

1. Tyranid player chooses to deep strike under Coteaz. Places the model on the table and prepares to roll for scatter.
2. Coteaz's IBEY triggers and he and his unit get to shoot at the Monster, since it came within 12" of Coteaz.
3. If the mawloc survives, the tyranid player does roll for scatter, and if lucky the Terror from the Deep ability triggers, and hits Coteaz's unit with a lot of painful S6 AP2 hits.

A lot different would have been when the Mawloc is placed outside the 12" threshold of Coteaz and then via the scatter be placed where Coteaz is (a very unlikely scenario). In this case, the active player chooses which ability triggers first since the Mawloc will be within 12" of Coteaz at the end of the Deep Strike deployement movement and at the same time the Terror from the Deep activates. Of course in this case, the Tyranid player (active player) will (almost) always choose to activate the Mawloc's ability first.

Sorry, no, the first location is only where the player would like the model to arrive, he then rolls and finds out where it realy did come in. Good try.

I think not, since if you roll for scatter and you get a hit on the scatter die, the model stays where it was placed. If not, you move it to it's final position (as per the rules).

Yeah donfer I'm pretty sure your wrong. I think either in the codex or the FAQ it states that IBEY triggers after the scatter dice is rolled and the unit is then "deployed" onto the table.

Becuase you can choose to "deep strike" 1" away from an enemy (in this case, coteaz ) then scatter 12" and you would be out of the bubble. Same goes in reverse. Deep strike lets say... 15" away from coteaz and then scatter into his 12" bubble. Once the scatter is determined then the unit is deployed. Then IBEY, before all other effects.

I think the words, as soon as.... in ibey's text means it happens out of sequence.

True, didn't read the FAQ. My bad. So the first part of my post should be ignored and it should be resolved as explained in the second part.

Thanks for the correction.
