500 Pts New Force

Howdy.

I'm a returning player from many years back. I can really be considered a beginner again and am starting a force with GK for games with friends and at my local GW store.

Hopefully you more experienced players can comment on this list I'm planning to buy:

- Brotherhood Captain
- GK Terminator Squad (5) + incinerator
- GK Strike Squad (5) + 2 halberds
- Razorback

I make that 500 on the money.

I will be playing against nids, Tau, CSM, Orks and Space Marines.

Welcome to the forums.

Firstly I would suggest that you look at a cheaper HQ the Captain is expensive at these ponts. I would look at maybe a Ordus M Inquisitor with terminator armour, psyker mastery I (divination, primas) and psycannon.
(You don't have to have a henchman squad with a ][ )

You want to get as many Psycannons in the long run as possible. So change the incinerator for one of those in the terminators and try get one in the Strike squad also.

If you have 5 pts you can make sure to get the ammo on the razorback as Str 6 (assuming your using Twin Linked Heavy Bolters) can be really useful on that light armoured tanks - ie needing 5's instead of 6's to glance AV11 - 3 glances = dead tank..

Also try to get in one hammer per 5 men so add a hammer to both the GKT's and GKSS'

I hope those suggestions help and give you a good idea on where to start and build from. Once you start getting into more points things get more interesting - it is just that GK's are so expensive for small point games. Don't get disheartened when you are outnumbered.

I personally used Arjac Rockfist since I wanted the rough slightly chaosy look. I think the space marine captain might work (since it's slightly smaller than a regular termie) or even the termie chaplain if you give him new arms and a bare head swap from a GK termie box.

How would you like something like this?

-Ordo Malleus Inquisitor; no options (Could be any inquisitor at this level but malleus is just so much more fluffy)
-2x Strike Squad; 5-man, 1x psycannon, 1x nemesis daemon hammer(More fire-power per point than terminators)
-2x Razorback; Twin-linked heavy bolter, psybolt ammunition (Can glance any av 12 to death at 36" away while giving your strike squads mobility)
-Dreadnaught; 2x twin-linked autocannon, psybolt ammunition (Your best long range fire support, can glance av 14 to death at 48")

So first of all HQ, this is obviously the weakest part of the list. He is pretty much a tax to field an army, you can put him in one of the squads as an extra chainsword attack but I don't think anyone would blame you if you just kept him out of the fight and try your best to deny your opponent the 2 victory points he is worth. At 750 pts the first thing I would do is upgrade my HQ to a grand master (If you're going to take a Brother-Captain then you might as well spend the extra 25 points for grand strategy and the improved BS) but at 500 pts you don't really have any points to spare and still field an army that can tackle most threats since everything good in the HQ choice is also expensive.

For troops strike squads scream as the only viable choice for 500 pts. They are definitly not as cool as terminators but for the price of 5 termies + 1 psycannon you can have 10 strike squad grey knights + 2 psycannons. The 2+ armor is just not a luxury you can really affford at 500 pts. With a psycannon and daemon hammer there isn't much that a 500 pt game can throw at you that these guys can't handle.

The dreadnaught makes an amazing long range firing platform, 4 twin-linked S8 AP4 and 48" range with AV12 and 3 HP to protect it all will make this the scariest thing in your army and likely to be targeted, but that just gives your razorbacks the freedom to transport and shoot away without getting blown up.

Anyways this is what I would do at 500 pts. Just thought I would share.

I d say :

1 Inquisitor Ordos Malleus - Terminator Armor, psyker (get divination primaris power), psycannon

5 Terminators - Psycannon, 1 Hammer, 3 Halberds (1 for Justicar) and a sword
5 Strike Squad - Psycannon, justicar with halberd
+ Razorback with Heavy Bolter + Psyammo

For the Inquisitor u can buy an additional Terminator box and just build a special guy with a psycannon (u need more terminators in the future anyway )

Thats a very elite list for 500 points.

Other than that i can recommend the list from brother Snowstyle. But i d lose the hammer on the SS and add servoarmor and a power sword to the HQ. HQ still gives a KP at this points.

Hi there and Welcome. I'd say a Brotherhood Champion is a good option for you too. You can make one out of the GKSS box, It's a good and cheap HQ.

I have played my first game against Blood Angels and have a game this weekend against nids.

I'm using this:

Coteaz
GKTS, Psycannon, 2 halberds
GKSS, Psycannon, 2 Halberds
Razorback with TLHB

I lost my first match as a death company dreadnaught stomped everything after I'd shot everything else to bits. I guess tactics against nids need to be shoot to bits and the swamp the hive tyrant and instakill it down...

Any advice? Please note I don't have finances to increase my forces this month so have to use what I have.
