Greetings:
Just a few words to introduce myself: My name is Jamie, I’ve been collecting Grey Knights for 25ish hours now. I have been a collector/player of Fantasy for about 12ish years. I started playing Orc’s, which always seemed to have bad stuff happen at in-opportune times, as happens with them. Truth of it is, I really loved those greenskins for a few years, until the weight of terribly timed losses started to far outnumber spectacularly stunning wins.

Then the DE’s riding cow cold ones dropped & the Witches lured me over to the darker side of things. FFWD numerous years of frustrating learning curves, almost as saucy as a witch Elf sculpt, and now the Druchii reign supreme. I’ve joined an escalation league with them and have been doing very well to date. The same group is looking at starting a 40K league, which turned out to be the push needed to start a 40K army.

The first thing I decided in making a choice was that I needed a good army with few models. I’m a terrible painter and slow to boot, so the Nids & Tau dropped along with Imp guard. From there I decided that I wanted a lot of character to my army, Nekrons drop. I hate the High elves & even though there is no relation, still decided that the Eldar were too goody two shoes for me, dropped. Now I’m left with Space marines and Ilk(Wolves, Angels), Daemons, Chaos, Dark Eldar, Orks, & SOB’s. Tough choices, so I decided that I’ve played armies of questionable morals, I wanted a force of good, everything else dropped but the Marines, SOB’s & Grey Knights.

From here I decided to read through the Codices for flavor. The Marines are all basically the same, Zzzzzzzzz. I was really taken with the Sisters, but they need a lot of boots on the ground when compared to the Grey Knights. So it was an easy choice when I learned that I can play inquisitors within the Knights, so I set about making up my first list. Which so happens to have a lot of boots included, but fewer needs as the army evolves, this is what I decided for my first 500pt list:
HQ:
Coteaz (100)
Core:
5psykers (50) 5 Warrior Acolytes (20) 2 Plasma Guns (20(Model 3)).
Flak Armour & Laspistol; Acolytes also have Chain swords(Model 2, as the other 3 will have Plasma Guns).
5psykers (50) 5 Warrior Acolytes (20) 2 Plasma Guns (20(Model 3)).
Flak Armour & Laspistol; Acolytes also have Chain swords(Model 2, as the other 3 will have Plasma Guns).
Elites:
4 Paladins (220) 2 with Halberds, 1 with Daemon Hammer, 1 with Nemesis Sword.
All paladins also come with Terminator Armour, Storm Bolter, Frag Grenades, Krack grenades, Pryk-out grenades.

The idea is to soften the field with Psyker attacks so that once the range is closed, my Paladins & Cortez can clean up what’s left. I’m not sure how this will play out as I’ve never played a game to date, but the best way to learn is to hit the table and put theory to practice. The following 200pts will be invested in terminators with plans of a StormRaven on month 3(my birthday, so it should be easy to convince the bride to gift it).

I went out yesterday to purchase the army & picked up:
Dark Eldar Wyches for my Psykers, Imp guard Cadian Kasrkin squad for the Acolytes, 5 plasma guns, Coteaz & two units of Terminators. The issue I’m having after taking a look at the models is with the Psykers for two things: 1) They are all running, minor; 2) The guns they are sporting look nothing like a Lazpistol, minor to moderate. As the group is lenient, I can probably get away with the lazpistol issue, so all in all, with some kit bashing I can make these work.

This brings me to some of the rules of the league. The models need to be painted to gain a flag (1 per month till no spaces remain) & to challenge for enemy spaces(later turns). 1 win/month will gain a flag while spaces remain. That’s all. The guys I play with are all great guys, but extremely competitive. There will be Dark Eldar, Deamons, Orks, Tyranids and possibly a Marine force, so the ‘good guys will also be outnumbered. By competitive, read cheese involved. In the fantasy Chaos 700pt list, there was a horde & Cannon, so he was undefeated till he ran up against my highly mobile DE list ( I did leave out the unkillable DL, but if I’ve heard the rumblings right, he’s making up a list to counter mine, so that DL could make an appearance sooner then later)

Anyway, that’s me, living the pure life come April. From now till then, I’ll be looking at paint scheme’s for my Knights(leaning towards Pre Heresy dark as opposed to the Gun metal they sport now, with immaculately white Paladins(maybe some laz scoring on the term hide, but we’ll see. I had a vision of basing them yellow then applying layers of white till I got a muted glow, but I’m not sure how that’s going to work out). Ramble. Ramble. Ramble.

Fallen.

Welcome, and good luck with the league.
If this is the list you are looking to stick with and you must be as you have been out to get the models already, then the next thing I would be looking at is some transport for the psyker squads to make them stronger.(chimeras), and a dread with 2 twin linked autocannons and psy bolts.
