Is walking Draigowing survivable vs flyers?

Post by Gop on Mon Aug 27, 2012 7:00 am

Hi

I haven't played my Draigowing in a 6th ed game yet. I was wondering if anyone has used it in the flyer environment. My list is something like:

Draigo
Librarian
10 paladins
5 paladins

They are all kitted differently (not that that matters a lot in 6th eh?) and maxed with psycannons. No psyflemen, only paladins. The only defense vs flyers seems to be snapfire. Admittedly GK can fire an aweful lot of shots so the big unit might be able to take out a flyer with a bit of luck? What can you tell me about playing this army in 6th? If it's "take something else", I might have to take <gasp!> my demon army with bloodthirster and 2 flying demon princes. At least that won't be raped by flyers. Interested to read your ideas.

i don't have my codex or my BRB on hands but it seems to me that psychic powers don't have the restrictions of the non-flag-weapons against flyers... you've got a libbie so try to be inventive with the psypowers.
I know that most are short range, but i ain't said that it would be easy ! Wink Razz Razz

I suppose they can pump out quite a lot of shots, you'd have to hit something with all the psybolts and rapidfire, as well as psychic.

as a draigo win I assuming your 10 man squad has 4 psy cannons.

if the libby takes the 'basic' divination power (reroll to hit) even with just hitting the flyer on 6's you have so many shots something will fall from the sky!

none of our 'basic' psychic powers can hurt a flyer as they can not be hit by templates IIRC

"zooming fliers can only be hit with snap shots"

"template weapons can not snap shot"

easiest way for (pure) grey knights, e.g. no allies, to take a flier down is with a stormraven. they're not cheap though!

Or buy an aegis defense line with quad gun, but then someone has to man it. I'm going with:
Draigo
Coteaz
10 Paladins 4x Psycannons
10 GKT 2x Psycannons
2x Psyflemen Dreads
1x Aegis Defense line with Quad gun
1x Paladin (to man the quad gun)

trouble is the quad gun is static (enemy can avoid it) and it's only 1 gun (even if it quite nice) and as such wont take a flier down before the enemy kills it. basically not effective an AA mount IMO

Really, tell that to my Storm Raven that got hit with 4 shots and then for armor pen, he rolls 2x 5 and 1x 6, failed my 5+ jink, so dead raven....paladins falling from the sky.....

It has a 48" range...set it towards the middle of the table and it can reach to almost any corner. So any flyer initially coming on the table will be in range even going the minimum distance. Plus its twin-linked, the SR is the only AV 12, right, so it needs 5's and 6's, Vendetta is AV 11, so 4-6's? and then if that doesn't take it down, I've got Coteaz with I've been expecting you and then giving 4 Psycannons twin-linking with the base Divination power, so there's 16x S7 shots that are twin linked, you are sure to take something down with that.

the quad gun on it's own is unlikely, does happen, but add coteaz and paladins becomes a bit more likely!
